Sad Sad

I swapped Sinclair for Adama and have him on my bench this week. I just have too many good match ups across the rest of my team to play Adama or Amavi. I had a very good Fantasy season last year, so I think I finally have a good system down, and this kid will be a sleeper hit, once he finds his way on the team sheet.

Well after seeing him put on his arse twice in two minutes, I was concerned. But fuck me did he tear that wing up?

Pro: he's fast. Very very fast.
Con: it's only a forward gear. Doesn't like going back.

Pro: he's rather good with a ball at his feet!
Con: he tends to watch others with the ball at their feet.

Pro: he's a big boy.
Con: must be hollow though because he was knocked off the ball very easily.

Pro: plays for Villa
Con: so do useless sugarbags like Brd Guzan and Gabby Agbonlahor.

Pro: scored on his debut
There's no con to go with that.

Give him ten minutes here, fifteen there and he'll be a star soon enough.

First few touches worried me, then he goes on a stormer of a run and we score.
Will need to adapt, work in progress but early signs positive.
Echo the comments about positional sense off the ball.

I wonder if he has been doing that to Amavi in training. Can't be good for the confidence to be given the runaround on a regular basis.

One thing I keep coming back to was his lack of backward movement when we lost the ball. At first I thought he was just being lazy but then, he's 19, full of beans, out to make an impression, etc so why be lazy?

Has he been taught that a correct set up of a football team is to have a defensive unit, a midfield unit and an attacking unit and, whilst there should naturally be some overlap, being behind the ball means that when we do get it back, there are no outlets to attack?

Maybe he was just surprised at the speed of the premier league but I don't buy that.

Either way, if he's on the pitch, then it's clear to me that we need both Sanchez AND Westwood; one to cover the middle and the other to cover the full backs - especially Bacuna as he's been left terribly exposed in every game.

Likewise if Gil is on as he's not exactly a defensive juggernaut either.

The other reason I'd have both Sanchez and Westwood is because Gil/Traore will get double (or even triple) teamed due to their creativity. So we need players very close to them as an immediate outlet. Having just the one DM sat back miles away in front of our defence isn't going to work.

4-2-3-1 seems the way to go for me but it's that "1" that's the problem. We really do need a fox in the box that will feed off balls coming in from the byline, defence splitting passes and dropped-goalkeeper bollocks. He doesn't need to be Messi-esque....the three players behind him will do that.

As much as I thought he was a useless fucking housebrick over the last few seasons with us, you know who I think would suit that role????

I wonder if Traore still isn't completely fit and Sherwood told him to save his energy. We'll find out very soon.

I see your point about Sanchez and Westwood and while I maintain playing both is a bad idea, we'll have to see. We looked good defensively for the first two matches with Ayew pretty much anonymous on the right.

Er, Weimann? I'd like to see Kozak get a go, I wonder if we'll see him tomorrow or if Sherwood will give Ayew some game time up front?

Would it be better to have Traore on the left with the much more defensively sound Amavi behind him instead of Bacuna?

Assuming we're playing a 4-3-3 I still want to see Veretout given time between Bacuna/Hutton and Traore/Gil on the right. The alternative to Veretout is Westwood, who is better playing in the middle, ahead of the defence, distributing the ball. Sanchez as sub in the second half.

In the first two matches I think we were attacking as a 4-3-3 and then defending as a 4-4-2. Can Traore do that? Given his pace he should be staying forward for when we counter.

I always liked Bent but you had to play to his strengths. I always liked Weimann too but only as a striker partnering someone like Benteke. They did score some lovely goals together. Weimann worked his arse off running all round the pitch, I'm not surprised he made mistakes, he must have been constantly knackered. I think he'd thrive playing as just striker with Grealish, Gil and Traore feeding him (and Amavi and all the rest) and maybe even playing alongside a Gestede. I appreciate almost everyone else on this forum will disagree with me!

Mate at BMH just delivering Pizza's for Gabby and has just seen Traore on crutches, but says don't worry about his injury as he's playing in a 7-a-side match and he's just scored, long ball from Amavi, Traore hobbled onto it, taking it down with his crutch and nutmegged Richardson, into the box, threw his crutches to the left, Guzan dived to save them and Traore slotted it into an open goal..............

A dismayed Guzan then threw the cruthes to Traore but they went out for a throw in.....

I think we should do some more business with Barcelona. Yes, Traore could turn out to be the next Messi and we'll be gutted when he goes but in the meantime we get a fantastic player working his arse off for a very good incentive.

No problems with this at all as it means we have a world class player on our hands. For the right price every club is a selling club!

The fact that he chose Villa over clubs like Bayern Munich, shows the kid's ambition. His goal is to go back to the best club in the world after he sets Villa Park alight, and I believe he'll do it. My fear is that it will be next season as opposed to 3 years from now, but I'm just going to enjoy him while I can because he has the potential to be the best in the world when he matures.
