Personally I hope that Snivelpool do not EVER qualify for European football again.
I can see Delph showing up as being deficient amongst all the GREAT players around him and will quickly get left on the bench. Playing for England is not a sign of a great player but of the lack of English players of quality.
I never forgave Bruce Rioch and I will never forgive these two either, although I do understand the need to achieve maximum bucks in their limited careers - it still cuts me to the quick.

We look to have made some great signings so far and glad to see the Gil is being given a chance - I think he will be a star.
Adebayor? - meh!
Austin? - yes please Tim
Send your scouts to India and Russia for a change, you never know where the gems are hiding, sadly not much talent in Oz now.

Whatever happens with Christian I want to say a big thank you. In my opinion our best striker for 30 years (Better than Yorke- Just) If it wasn't for you we would be in the Championship!

I still cling to the thought that until it's on the official site it hasn't happened. We went through this last year, and the year before, I just hope someone somewhere (Sherwood?) has secured a nice pay rise for him and convinced him to stay. If it's not just about the money - and really, we can chuck a few more million at him in wages for another year - then why go to Liverpool when they're not even in the Champions League and are unlikely to be at the end of this season? I see Liverpool fighting it out with Spurs for fifth.

I was wrong about Delph though. The difference is, I wasn't bothered when Delph left.

Disagree. Dwight Yorke was better in my opinion. But that's football!

I'll give it to Yorke because he played with a smile on his face and didn't moan like a bitch when he didn't get the ball.

Also, I actually thought he'd changed his first name to Offside last season going off the shear amount of times I heard Offside Benteke in a game.

I have loved seeing CB in a villa shirt - but let's face he wouldn't have stood out so much in a team of superstars. By that I mean he will always look a class act - but part of me thinks he looked the absolute beast he did for us, because at times he was literally the only thing worth watching.

To be brutally honest - if it came down to watching Benteke or Watching Saunders/Atkinson together - I pick Dean and Dalian - It was a nice time to be supporting the Villa - jeez we can only dream of a partnership like that now.

So true mate. Those were good times.

I actually think Juan Pablo Angel was as good as Benteke, obviously not physically but his movement and all round ability was excellent.
Luc Nillis far better than Benteke also, although we were so cruelly robbed of seeing him shine for us. Yes, when you look back we have had some better strikers than Benteke over the last 30 years for sure.

I agree 100% that we have gotten so used to seeing rubbish, that any player now that can actually get his boots on the right feet look world beaters to us!!
Time will tell how they get on now they are no longer the big fish in a little pond!

Lambert confirms we paid £5.5m for him.

That is some profit made on him.

Hopefully invested well into the team. I think we can replace his numbers.

If CB is going I wish he'd hurry up and do one. I want to see replacements and some positive focus on next season asap. I'm sick of hearing about Benteke every time I turn on the radio. It's like he didn't exist until Liverpewl took notice.

Benteke is certainly the most valuable striker we've ever had. His goals have kept us in a very lucrative league. Without him we would be adrift in the Championship. This post is from : 'Worried' of Bromsgrove.

I'm part of the "sad to see him go but best of luck with his future endeavours" camp. I've not been his biggest advocate at times, for the same negatives as have been cited by others, but he certainly has played a big part in our survival and when on form given me a big smug grin for being "ours".

If he stays then I'll be over the moon but I can't fault a player of his quality (and potential to grow further) wanting to push on to the next level.

In terms of worry VB, I agree it certainly casts an air of uncertainty and apprehension but this is where Lerner or Fox need to step up and shoulder the responsibility for ensuring there is no substance to our fear. For all our complaints about how the club is run, I'd be amazed if we as fans can see such writing on the wall whilst they remain totally oblivious to it. But whilst the airwaves are filled with radio silence, we can of course only speculate and hope.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's superb, I was proud to have him at Villa and we'd have been screwed without him long ago - I just never trusted his loyalty enough to get soppy about him the way I have some players in the past. I've no ill feelings towards him, though Liverpool is pushing it, tbh.

But if he's going then I'd rather he just Go. Walk out the door. Don't turn around now etc etc.

What gets me is why a 2 day medical and why in London, I know scousepool is a shite hole but surely that have hospitals in and around the area.

Also it's a big fee so why no clips on TV of him entering or leaving the so called hospital/medical centre, now I'm not saying it isn't happening just find it strange lack of evidence other that so called sources.

Been thinking the same thing, especially as Sky Sports have been banging the drum all summer about getting this deal done....surprised they aren't televising it!

My Liverpool supporting mate, as of 20 mins ago, still isn't convinced he will sign. He thinks Rogers "I don't know what you're talking about" comment yesterday was so bizarre that he wouldn't be surprised by it!
He also said that the big rumour up there is that they are about to go for Marco Reus for £40m with the Sterling money.
