Game details
Match: Aston Villa U23s 6-1 Wolves U23s
Date: February 19, 2018
Competition: Premier League 2
Venue: Bescot Stadium
Kick-off: 7pm
Scoring summary
Hepburn-Murphy, Blackett-Taylor (2), O'Hare, Knibbs, Prosser
Analysis
Aston Villa U23s reduced the gap at the top of Premier League 2 to a single point after their 6-1 rout of rivals Wolves U23s at Bescot Stadium.
Goals from Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, Corey Blackett-Taylor (2), Callum O'Hare, Harvey Knibbs and Alex Prosser increased the pressure on Blackburn Rovers at the summit.
Hepburn-Murphy opened the scoring inside 10-minutes with a well-taken header from James Bree's cross, and Blackett-Taylor doubled our advantage shortly after with a volley from close range.
Jose Xavier pulled one back for Wolves, but right on half-time Blackett-Taylor added his second – burying in the bottom-left corner after Hepburn-Murphy put him through on goal.
Callum O'Hare wrapped up the win in the second half with a back-post header from inside the six-yard box, before both Harvey Knibbs and Alex Prosser got on the scoresheet with their first touches of the match having come on as substitutes.
Our U23s' attention now switches to the Premier League Cup, where they can reach the knockout stages with three points against Ipswich Town at Keys Park.
Line-up
VILLA: Sarkic; Borg, Bedeau, Clark, Bree; Blackett-Taylor, Doyle-Hayes, Clarke, Cox, O'Hare; Hepburn-Murphy. Subs: Johansson, Prosser, Finnerty, Rowe, Knibbs.

Thanks @De Kuip, just goes to prove that if you take the shackles of some U23 players they could slot in nicely into the first team, just have to teach the dinosaur a new trick.

And despite the far away camera angle did you see some of the goals - Jesus they were properly lashed in from distance!Fpuppys wrote:Thanks @De Kuip, just goes to prove that if you take the shackles of some U23 players they could slot in nicely into the first team, just have to teach the dinosaur a new trick.
I think I read that the 5th and 6th goals were both first touches for the scorers - something like that
Edit: Oh yeah, duh, it's in the match report above

Neither O'Hare or Hepburn-Murphy were involved, but they weren't involved in the last round either, and still didn't make the first team squad that followed that game, still circumstanes are different now I guess, so lets hope they get a chance.
Interesting to see Odutayo and Ramsey both score, two sixteen year olds, Odutayo, looked excellent for the u18s when I saw him earlier in the season.

Analysis
Aston Villa U23s qualified for the last 16 of the Premier League Cup after defeating Ipswich Town U23s 3-0 at Keys Park.
Harvey Knibbs struck after 20 minutes for his second goal in four days, and it was one-way traffic from there on in.

Kevin MacDonald's side play their final Group E fixture at Sheffield United on Monday.

That just smacks of what happens in the FA Cup, teams play weakened sides, so some U18's get a chance.

O'Hare's definitely in the squad as confirmed by Bruce, Grabban, Green, Davis all injury doubts, and Tuanzebe, Grealish and Adomah all definitely out. Hopefully Rushian should be involved as well, especially if Davis and Grabban don't make it, people forget about him, but he's probably the best of our youngsters when fit.

Game details
Match: Sheffield United U23s v Aston Villa U23s
Date: 14th March, 2018
Competition: Premier League 2
Venue: Stocksbridge Park Steels
Kick-off: 2pm
Scoring summary
Odutayo
Analysis
Aston Villa U23s sealed top spot in Premier League Cup Group E after beating Sheffield United 1-0.
The Young Lions had all but secured first in the table courtesy of four wins and a massive goal difference, but made sure of that feat with a fifth Cup victory of the campaign.
And it was U18 star Colin Odutayo who starred once more, clinching the eventual winner with a cool finish early in the first half.
United had the ball in the net shortly after the break, but the effort was ruled out for offside – meaning the claret and blues finished the group stage with 15 points from a possible 18.
Attention now turns to the U23 Premier League Cup last 16 clash against Blackburn, which takes place this Friday night at Villa Park.

Analysis
Aston Villa U23s moved back to within a point of the summit of Premier League 2 Division 2 with a convincing 3-1 win over Reading U23s at Bescot Stadium.
The Young Lions are hot on the tails of Blackburn Rovers once again, with just four regular season fixtures left to play.
Villa didn't have it all their own way on the night, and were behind early on when Matija Sarkic's misplaced pass fell to the feet of Joseph Mendes, who then gave the Royals the lead.
But the claret and blues grew into the game and soon showed why they're battling for the title.
James Finnerty's header crashed off the crossbar and went in off goalkeeper Liam Driscoll to level things up.
Callum O'Hare's fierce, low-driven cross early in the second half was also turned in by a Reading player – Teddy Howe on this occasion.
And Rushian Hepburn-Murphy continued his fine form with a goal that wrapped up the points, sweeping home Jake Doyle-Hayes' quality ball into the box.
Kevin MacDonald's side now head to Sheffield United on Wednesday to complete their Premier League Cup group, where they have already made it to the last 16. That knockout tie sees them face Blackburn at Villa Park two days later, on Friday 16th March.

Aston Villa U23s: Be at Villa Park as we bid to reach Premier League Cup quarter-finals
Be here and roar on the next generation of claret and blues this Friday night as Aston Villa U23s host Blackburn Rovers U23s in B6.
The Premier League Cup last 16 clash takes place at Villa Park on 16th March, kick-off 7pm.
The two sides are currently fighting it out for the Premier League 2 Division 2 title, with just one point separating them in their domestic scrap.
But it's winner takes all on Friday evening, with the victor progressing through to the last eight of the competition.
The Young Lions swept through Group E, seeing off Sheffield United, Ipswich Town and West Bromwich Albion to qualify for the knockout stages with ease.
They face Sheffield United in their final, rearranged fixture on Wednesday, but their progress to the last 16 was confirmed some time ago.
Tickets will be available on the gate for the Blackburn tie on Friday.
Season Ticket Holders can attend free of charge, while it's £4 for adults and £1 for concessions

They seem to rotate u18s into certain matches and I think there's a bit more interchange between our youth teams but even so it's a brutal schedule.
Apparently RHM is playing well, not that it matters at our club he won't get a sniff. I think O'Hare has been called up to the England U20s team and he can't get a look in so RHM hasn't got a hope in hell.

Four of Aston Villa's youngsters have been recognised today with international call-ups.
Josh Onomah has been called up for the England U21s games against Romania and Ukraine at the end of the month.
There have also been calls up for Keinan Davis, Callum O'Hare and Easah Suliman who have been called up to the England U20 squad

Aston Villa's Keinan Davis saves the day with late England winner
The striker scored the only goal of the game as the Young Lions won in Poland
Keinan Davis scored his first international goal with a last-minute winner for England U20s this evening.
The Villa forward came on as a substitute, replacing team-mate Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, and was on hand to steer home the deciding goal against Poland in Bielsku-Bialej.
Davis has enjoyed a fine season, breaking through into the Villa first-team and now getting off the mark for his country.

Re: U23s/youth watch
We’ve been drawn away to promotion rivals Middlesbrough in the last eight of the Premier League Cup.
Mark Delaney’s Young Lions defeated Blackburn 2-0 on Friday to reach the quarter-final stage and their reward is a clash with Boro, who beat Liverpool in the Round of 16.
In other news, Leicester City have been drawn to face Wolverhampton Wanderers, the holders Swansea City will host Brighton & Hove Albion if they get past Bristol City, while Newcastle United face a trip to the winners of Sheffield United v Derby County.
Ties are scheduled for 6th-9th April.
All matches will be one-off and decided by extra-time and penalties if the scores are level after 90 minutes

Corey Blackett-Taylor, been given a new contract, a bit surprised by that as he'll be twenty-one this coming season and apart from a couple of sub appearances last season he hasn't been anywhere near the first team.

Amazing isn't it? I think he's looked really good in the U23s but Bruce has played anyone but a winger on the wing when Albert or Snoddy have been out (or subbed). Maybe there were only two golden midfield tickets and Green and O'Hare had them.
