Christian Benteke Empty Benteke determined to come back strong from injury layoff

Post by Guest Mon May 12, 2014 8:14 pm

Official Site has this (from a Belgian media site):

Christian Benteke has spoken of his desire to return "faster than expected" as he looks ahead to the 2014-15 term.

Benteke ruptured his achilles tendon in training on the eve of the Fulham game in April.

The star striker then had an operation and is now back in Belgium recuperating.

He is expected to be out for a minimum of six months but Benteke insists he will be doing everything he can to be back at the earliest possible opportunity.

He told Belgian media company RTBF: "I'm convinced I will be back faster than expected.

"After my injury I thought about Villa. At that point we weren't even sure we would stay in the Premier League.

"But I'm relieved the boys avoided the drop.

"There are many people who have said it will take me six months to get back. But I am sure I will be back faster."

The upsetting injury setback also means Benteke will miss the summer World Cup in Brazil, a development that, he admits, has caused him big heartache.

He added: "When the diagnosis was confirmed, I didn't feel sad, I felt frustrated.

"I was thinking about all the sacrifices I'd made and that I'd deserved to be at the World Cup. That's what I mean with frustration.

"People have said lots of positive things to me. To be honest, I didn't expect that.

"When Belgium play their first game against Algeria, on June 17, there will be a little frustration, but I think I can easily watch.

"Marc Wilmots, the national manager, called me on the day I injured myself. He told me injuries are a part of football.

"In a career, there are tough times. He has even bounced back, after a lot of operations, to play at the age of 33. Why shouldn't I?

"I got a lot of support from Marouane Fellaini and Eden Hazard, but also Vincent Kompany called me to encourage me."

I think the injury has ensured he'll stay at least another season. If he had stayed fit we'd probably be fending off interest from some seriously big clubs this summer.

He will be going nowhere soon. When the cash starts rolling into VP with new owners, new quality players, he will want to be part of it i am sure.

More importantly, the new owner(s) will want him to be part of it. I'm sure they'll insist.

We'll have him for at least 3-4 seasons, if we get some owners with ambition. If we aren't challenging for trophies by that point, he'll leave for a bigger club in his prime for a monster transfer fee.

We're really going to need him next season. Doubt if the takeover will be completed quick enough to strengthen the squad during the summer so Bentekes goals when he does come back will help us creep over the relegation safety target again.

Mind you for every two goals Benteke scores I'm sure a Baker error will let one in at the other end.

I think the injury might just play into our hands in terms of that.

whether he returns the same player will be another matter. He is young and should make a full recover. However, it is his first serious injury and getting confidence back will take time. If he returns in October or November we probably wont see the best of him till at least January/February. Patience will be needed with him. I hope if he plays badly for a month or so people don't get on his back.

He never recovered from his injury early on in the season if you ask me. He was not the same player after that.

Still twice as good as any of our other players though.

Agreed, but will he come back from this injury and be the beast he was ? That is the question my friend. I hope he comes back stronger, in a better Villa team, but we just do not know yet do we. UTV.

I see the club are still sticking to the injured during training line. The alternative version, if true, makes very controversial reading.

Story was broken last week in various places and yes, Culverhouse was, allegedly, at the heart of it.

WTF?!

I hope to fuck Culverhouse wasn't responsible for something nasty? In a world cup year surely it has to be a legitimate injury, he wouldn't end up missing that over something small?

What the heck was going on at Villa?Chris Herd an all?

It was just my response to a very cryptic message above about there being more to Bentekes injury than meets the eye. Seems very odd to me, and I think ti has to be a legitimate injury

No chance. He wouldn't miss a world cup over it. His "injury" would have been until June if it wasn't legitimate. We all enjoy a good conspiracy however I dont think Benteke is involved in one.
