Perhaps in the absence of a CEO RL has flown to the UK to free up £10m , sort some contracts and head to London to sort out non Villa business stuff.
Nothing exciting granted, and still a poor sized transfer fund, but that is where we're at, the same level as newly promoted clubs.
Nothing unfortunately to do with a takeover, which I don't believe will happen now until next summer
Reported by Jonny Gould (Who I trust) that he's here to sort out a new CEO. He has said he's investigating it further today. Maybe a CEO will be announced. I'll try and find out off Thetrees when he's due to fly out again

Haha...I am loving the optimism guys so forgive me for urinatiing on your hopes. Lerner still has a pad in London and does occaisionally spend some time over here. He's probably doing just that and popping into Bodymoor for one his famous pep talks.
As for extra funds etc the proof is in the pudding. The gagging order on critcsm is a sad sign that they have accepted that no interest is likely in the foreceeable future and its going to be a difficult few months with an unhappy fan base attracting more media attention than they like.

I think we will spend a tiny bit of cash now. I'm hoping it's on the 3 mentioned last night in Ki Mosses and Sinclair.
We need to ship out a fair few though.
I think Randy will be here to get a new CEO, speak to Delph and Vlaar and free up some funds

Lambert must be dreading a new CEO coming in because if he knows what football is, he will tell randy straight away that Lambert at tactics and Style Are shocking

Really don't rate Sinclair, been really poor the last 2 seasons and I feel we have other priorities. That said, I'd be ok with Moses and Ki. Still think we need another box to box midfielder too (or play Ki there and get a real holding DM)

I am not buying he is here to source a new CEO. Lerner as been cost cutting for four years (fact) why would he spend £100,000 + on a CEO when he is selling the club. If he was then surely he would of taken him to a game or if you were the new CEO wouldn't you insist on going to a game (last night) which didn't happen. When McLeish came deal was done in London. I am still hearing rumblings that the new owners are from the middle east although I have heard to recent days rumours surfing again of Red Bull.

I wonder that with season only a couple of weeks away, we will see more interested parties appearing knowing that Lerner will now be even more desperate to sell. I mean, why pay 200 mill when you may force him to drop it to 150 mill?

Lambo probably rang him and said "oi Randy, let's face facts: no fucking way will Vlaar stay based on my words. Get here and stroke his ego. And anything else he wants stroking!"

As to a fund of ten million, all I want is when we sell a player who we dont want for a profit, not loan them, put them in the Sutton Park squad ( to abusive to now call it the bomb squad dont want to upset those poor people employed by Aston Villa).
Joking aside how long ago is it since we sold a player for a profit.

I don't think he has any choice but to appoint a new CEO, whether he wants to or not.
If it's true what's been said, the current bloke ( can't recall his name) doesn't really want the job and was looking to retire soon, not take on more responsibilities.
And, if lerner really does want a 'hands off' approach until the mythical sale of the club, then the money to pay for a New CEO (stooge) is just a wage he was already paying Faulkner anyway.

Not even that. Factor in that wages and signing on fees are included in that 10 million, then its just PR. Lambert and Keane should tell Lerner to stick it and walk.

Robin Russell hates football and knows even less, he's purely a number cruncher. If no sale is close, I agree we need a proper CEO, I think Randy knows that too

There are CEOs out there who work purely on a temp basis. Get things looking pretty and smooth and facilitate a smooth takeover in return for a huge paycheck and bonus
Could this be Lerner's thinking?

Trevor Birch is a specialist at that, did the same at Chelsea. I'm surprised he hasn't asked his mate Keith Harris, he could then bring in Orvill as manager

Yes but why a new CEO. Robin Russell is financially minded agreed. But Ian Taylor as just passed exams in directorship so why wouldn't they work together in the interim still saving Lerner a lot of money. I am also led to believe that Graham Taylor would like to be more hands on another source within the fold.
Don't need a new CEO at the moment in my opinion.

holtehero wrote:I read with interest a few pages back about people who have to travel and pay quite a bit to watch the team
To visit Villa Park is a 240 mile round trip for me and i haven't been to a home game since McLeish was appointed as i was so disgusted with that appointment. I actually though Lambert wasn't a bad appointment, but last season was dreadful and while i have seen us play reasonably well a few times at away games (Norwich and London clubs) the thought of spending £100+ to be thoroughly pissed off has kind of stopped me
As for the takeover, i hope it still happens and the sooner the better, but i have gone through blind optimism to utter despair over this summer. Part of me wants to just say fuck it and not bother, but after supporting the club for 32 years i simply can't just ignore everything and it hurts the situation we are in
Also agree, why is Lerner here again as surely contract negotiations/fund release can be done from whereever, perhaps there is some truth in the CEO as i would assume that Lerner would want to be involved in Interviews etc. However, if he wanted to keep that secret i'm sure he could have sent his jet to pick any prospective candidates up and do the interview in the USA
The CEO hunt is the only logical reason for him to visit - both he and the candidates would want to meet each other, and Lerner has to know that he can "work with" the appointee ie assess asslicking capability...seeing as they probably won't meet again for several months. You cannot put three candidates together on a small plane and whisk them off to New England - there is a potential visa issue for a start and (key point) it wouldn't save any money!
As an alternative or even additional motive, it is possible that for whatever reason he has to be here to personally release funds of that large value if they are held in an institution here - unlikely but possible. Not unusual for even a CFO to have a relatively low limit on the values he can sign off on alone....which, incidentally, means, in actual fact, that Lerner may often have to sign the little forms conveniently found in the Premier League Handbook.
As for not having a CEO - we have one right now, its not possible for a ltd co to not have one, ergo why Russell stepped up the minute Faulkner bailed, and Russell cannot do both jobs (arguably can't do either).
