As I said a few days back, any name that has even loosely been associated with the current furore should be approached with much caution, if even approached at all. Why the fuck would we want to saddle ourselves with a potential howler like this?

Re: The next Villa Manager
One thing that occurred to me is that perhaps one of the reasons Bruce has not been appointed yet is that he does NOT want to take over the manager's job till AFTER the Blues game for obvious reasons!
That might explain why no appointment has been made or will be made yet!

Re: The next Villa Manager
I think you may be missing the point. If this was true, the its probably Bruce seeking advice/ support regarding negative press given his Blue Nose connections. This says to me that he is doing some serious planning and has got more of an idea as to how to handle himself and the job than many give him credit for.VTID85 wrote:Trotters wrote:The post about Crisis Management was interesting. ---------------------------
Steve Bruce, along with son Alex, are the guests on Sky Sports' Goals on Sunday show this morning.
Do you want the England job?
“Of course I’d have been interested, of course I’d have helped them out, no problem.
“They’ve gone down the route of somebody in-house with Gareth, who’s been successful with the under 21s.
“You’ve got to respect that, but if I’d have got the call, I’d have been delighted.”
ON THE LONG-TERM VACANCY BEYOND SOUTHGATE
“You know where I am. Absolutely.”
On Big Sam's appointment - and exit
“I was pleased that it was English.
“Big Sam has done a remarkable job everywhere’s he’s gone. That looked a good fit.
“It’s sad and disappointing with what’s happened, and I’m disappointed for him because usually you lose a job because results aren’t good enough.
“What transpired can only be a sadness. I think Big Sam said it himself, he was foolish and stupid.
“Looking back in hindsight, the type he is, he’ll have to recover from it because it’s a hell of a bodyblow to him.”
On being interviewed for England
“It’s the job - it’s the pinnacle job if you’re English.
“If it comes round, it’s got to be what everybody would want.
“I was in the frame or thereabouts, and didn’t quite make it.
“It was nice to be involved.”
On leaving the Tigers
“There was a change of dynamic at the club.
“The chairman was poorly for a long while - and I hope he is getting better.
“It was obvious his son wanted to run things his way, which is his prerogative.
“It’s fair to say we didn’t see eye to eye.
“It’s not very often you have to walk away from a Premier League job.
“Once you feel undermined as a manager, things start going a little bit pear-shaped.
“I thought it was best for the club for me to take the action that I did, which was not taken lightly, I have to say.”
Do you want the Villa job?
“If the opportunity arose, then yeah, of course.
“I’m hoping in the next couple of days I’ll hear something back, but at the moment, that’s all that’s happening.
“I have to respect the fact that they did tell me a few days ago that there was a process that was going to be carried out.”
Experienced enough!
Alex Bruce acknowledges that his dad knows what he’s doing.
“I just keep out of it and let him get on with it.
“He’s experienced enough - I’m sure he’s had a few interviews in his time (to which Steve interjects with: “I’ve failed in a few, too!”).”
On Big Eck
Bruce says it’d be different if he was appointed as Villa boss compared to Alex McLeish - as he’s not going from one Second City club to the other!
“Most people have come to accept that it was ten years ago.
“Alex walked from one into the other.
“But there are people who have been working there for years who have been involved with both.
“I don’t think in this day and age it’d be a big problem - I’d hope not anyway!”
Alex McLeish at Aston Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground for his first press conference
On Blues connection
“That’s the thing that everyone has to weigh up - it was ten years ago.
“You can’t go over the past and at the end of the day now, I’m an out-of-work football manager.
“I still think I’ve got something to offer.
“I’ve been there and done it in the Championship.
“I’d rather be in the Premier League - who wouldn’t?
“But if the opportunity (at Villa) arose, it’d be something I’d seriously consider, for what it’s got to offer.”
Talks
“I’ve had a chat with him, and that’s as far as it’s gone.
“They did say they were in a process, which you have to respect.
“I’m hoping that I’ll hear something this week.
“It’d be a terrific job - I’m sure everyone would agree, it’s one of the big clubs in this country.
“It needs a little bit of turning around at the moment, but they’ve got a huge support.
“It’s a big club, so let’s hope I hear something this week.”

Re: The next Villa Manager
During Steve Bruce's televised job interview, he said he's hoping to hear he's got the job soon, but there's a process that the board are going through. So surely this process must include other candidates, which begs the question, why isn't there an avalanche of media speculation over the other candidates? Is it because the media "know" it's not going to be them, or, crazy though this might sound, they actually know naff all??

One thing is obvious to me, there is no way that bruce is Xia and the boards 1st choice........ he's available, he wants it, he's qualified, he's experienced, he lives local and yet we still haven't done the deal................

You may be right. I'm perhaps being unfair on him and hope that if he does indeed fit the position he does so with gusto and gets great results.

Re: The next Villa Manager
Xia might have come across Neville's twitter via Alex Bruce, as I think the pair of them (Alex and Phil) tweet each other quite regularly. The rumours last night were that Agnew from Middlesbrough was going to be the new assistant.
Never know tomorrow we might announce someone completely different. Whoever it is hope it gets sorted soon.

any chance of a poll to guess how many games it will take for bruce to be called a Villa hating, slum-dwelling, 12-toed, inbred freak then sacked?

A small number of Villa hating, slum-dwelling, 12-toed, inbred freak don't really give a shit about the idea of Bruce coming to Villa.
The vast majority seem to be losing their so-called minds.
Tom Ross is going to get hammered with "He's dead to me Tom and that's why I can't get down to MonkeyWorld these days"

What must be a little embarrassing for Brucie is that the longer this goes on, the more it looks like he's the fallback option. Publically saying that he's spoken to us & the ball's in our court would suggest that we're currently still interviewing (or maybe negotiating) with others & other parties.
Maybe the board want to see how Clarke gets on on Saturday....

It has only been a week. The club implied that the first week was whittling down a shortlist. It probably takes around 3 days to get the legals sorted once theyve shook hands on it.
I think Brucey is the type to tell the club to 'stick it' - if he should feel he is being messed about

Re: The next Villa Manager
I'm a bit surprised how the speculation train has more or less petered out into the press scraping around a few half baked stories about who Steve Bruce may want as assistance once he's appointed. Is the ITK stream so dry that they have nothing to go on, or do they all genuinely believe it's a done deal. Unless of course they're just a bunch of lazy, copy and paste wasters who couldn't investigate a fire if you put a match to their trousers?

Re: The next Villa Manager
Aston Villa's manager-in-waiting Steve Bruce could bring in Manchester United reserve team boss Warren Joyce as his No2 at Villa Park.
Villa are close to confirming 55-year-old Bruce as their next manager and the former United legend has the backing of owner Tony Xia and Chief Executive Keith Wyness to bring his own staff after the Championship club's dismal start to the season under Roberto Di Matteo.
Two of Bruce's backroom team from his last club Hull City, Mike Phelan's current assistant Stephen Clemence and goalkeeping coach Gary Walsh, are expected to link up again with their former manager in the Midlands.
But it is the interest in Joyce that is particularly intriguing, the 51-year-old has helped in the development of several high-profile youngsters at United including Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Adnan Januzaj and Robbie Brady since starting work with the cliv's under-21 side in 2010.

Bruce........... meh!
Not an appointment to truly set the pulses racing.
Still hoping that something much more innovative and exciting is going on beneath the radar.
