Re: Summer transfers speculation thread (all links in here until it's official)
Alright folks - thought I'd have a wander back into the TBAR virtual offices after a summer lounging around by the beach.
*Wanders casually around the virtual TBAR office, rubs finger along the underside of the windowsill to check for dust and then presses foot against floorboards to see which way the joists run.....*
Anyway, thought I'd have a bit of a break as it felt like the TBAR Greek Chorus was in the ascendancy a month back.
In fact, what a great off-season it's been - I'm starting to feel spoilt in that it's been at least 2 days since we've been linked with anyone/bought anyone/unveiled anyone and i'm actually starting to feel frustrated at the lack of action - told you, spoilt !!
FWIW I agree with Dan - I'd definitely prefer 2 strikers that could deliver 8-10 goals each and look to the midfield/wingers to provide the rest. maybe if we keep signing midfielders we'll play with a false number 9 (what do you mean "We are - he's called Gabby, except he's supposed to play the role of a real number 9" - shame on you!).
Does everyone agree we're up to capacity at CB now, only I'd still like to see Virgil van Dijk sign for us, I said that weeks ago, but I suppose if we're gonna spend 10 mil, it needs to be on a striker (I'd love Austin to sign) and VvD is likely to go to Saints (although if Chelsea win the battle of the stones, maybe Everton).
Good to hear Jacky boy scored against Derby yesterday and that Gil/Traore played well - onwards and upwards fellow Villans

That's why we should look to a 10 goals a season guy or 2. Gabby and Kozak are not even 10 goal a season guys so we need 2 new strikers.
I'm not completely convinced to write off Kozak, he's never had a proper run in the team, and has shown he has at least a vague idea where the goal is.

Gestede and someone like Oulare would score more than 20 goals between them with some creativity behind them IMO
Better put in a 50m buyout clause now, it will save time later!

Re: Summer transfers speculation thread (all links in here until it's official)
I too would rather see Kozak start. He scored two or three in pre-season and had decent movement off the ball. I think he's going to be intelligent enough to play with Amavi, Gueye, Traore, Gil and Grealish. Maybe even Ayew. We learned with Benteke last season there's no point waiting 10 or 12 games for him to not score before dropping a striker. I suspect that was more to do with Lambert's man management and the way he set up the team to play but the fact remains, there's a cutoff point where a manager has to realise he has to change things. Benteke was too central to the way Lambert set up the team. Sure, he was injured but confidence and being happy playing has a lot more to do with it.
Just tossing this in here but maybe we'll see Gabby start and do better with more attacking prowess from Traore, Grealish and Gil. I think Veretout and Ayew need to give way for now.
I think we do need at least one more striker in. I don't think we'll find another Amavi to take over RB. He really is spoiling us and raising our expectations for how the rest of the team should play.

I'm no ITK but I heard that South London Villan's 95-year-old granny is undergoing a medical as we speak. Rumour is she can score more than Gabby. And makes a cracking Eccles cake.

Benteke's best season was 12/13 when he played 34 games and got 19 goals, he then managed 24 and 26 games in the 2 seasons after and look how badly we struggled with him out injured or coming back from injury.
Strikers who score 20 goals a season are very thin on the ground, and if they can't get fit they can't be relied upon. Benteke might have scored 20 if he'd been fit, but he wasn't
OK - Bottom line
IMO we look short of goals , I would like us to address that by signing a top notch striker - you're Happy to go with Ayew, Gestede, to me that's a massive risk.

I've never once said that. I've said we need an additional striker, over any other position, in many threads. Your point was you'd rather we'd signed a single top striker than who we have, it was that I disagreed with

Is there going to be something in their contracts saying they have to be employed as footballers or can they be given alternative employment?

For anyone with access to BT Sport, the Bruges v Manure game is televised tonight.
Assuming he is selected, and opportunity to see Obbi Oulare playing against a top Premier League side. I fear that if he does the business, the offers will be rolling in tomorrow.
If true that we have scouted him and are interested, might need to get skates on. The exposure is bound to up his profile, if he does well.

I'm sure I read somewhere he was going to Borussia Dortmund, maybe I'm getting confused with someone else.
Also heard that apparently Austin won't sign for us as he isn't willing to change his name to Jordan.

Oulare didn´t show up, really. Hard to tell what he might be capable of from that cameo.
Not surprised if Dortmund are interested. They tend to shop for young prospects with a big potential sell on (like the new Villa)!

Wouldn't mind taking a punt on DeAndre Yedlin as a specialist RB, He's young, fast, looks very competent and has got Walker and Trippier above him in pecking order at spurs so might be interested and wouldn't cost a fortune.........
Our American friends might know more about him, good shout guys?

Not sure if anyone watches any of the MLS at all?
I saw some of the New York City FC v DC United game the other day, NYC have a proper beast up front, from Ghana...Kwadwo Poku....I was really impressed with him. Surprised he hasn't been linked to any EPL sides, looked tailor made for the league from what I saw....and he is proper rapid.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. He's arguably our (USA's) best prospect right now. Still raw, but he reminds me of an unpolished Amavi. Kilnsmann used him as an impact sub at RW in last year's world cup, and he played well every time he came on. He's ridiculously fast, has a good cross on him, always looks to get forward at every opportunity, but is also quick to get back and defend. Going to Spurs was a terrible move for him and set his development back a season. When the news was announced in America he was going to Spurs, we American supporters were baffled. He wasn't going to beat out Walker or even Naughton at the time for a starting role, and Spurs have since bought Trippier too. He needs to play for a season or two on loan before he's ready to replace Walker. He's starting to hinder his own progress by sitting on their bench. If he want to move, I'd love to see him in a Villa shirt.

Fantastic prospect. I don't watch a lot of MLS, but I did catch Pirlo's debut for NYC, and Poku really caught my eye that match. I believe he scored a goal, set up an assist, and beat the offside trap a few times. That match had Pirlo, Kaka, and David Villa all on the pitch and Poku was in the same class as they were.
