So if you 'know' its more - you must have a figure ?
The range of figures I've seen quoted - are from £3-£5m. (ergo comparable)
If it was a record breaking deal - i feel the club would have told us
Yes I could agree with that. Don't know about the insider knowledge, perhaps they've just taken a punt.

@Prof_Chadwick: Possible impending sale of Aston Villa seemingly led by an Israel company, accompanied by English partners, financed by Chinese investors.
@Prof_Chadwick: @kpvilla @scruffysausage I have good reason to believe that, if terms can be agreed, Aston Villa will become a Chinese-owned club.
This was from the 29th of April

For us, it is a record deal, potentially. I also work in this industry so happen to know a few things.
Firstly, the deal will be worth x. X = a base figure supplemented by performance.
But I also know the base figure is a significant improvement on the Dafabet deal. The club won't publish figures because it's vulgar and really nobodies business. You'll get a clue from next years accounts anyway.
I suppose anything less than Apple spending 20m over season to be on our Adidas shirts wasn't going to be enough anyway, right? :)

When I said "insider" knowledge I meant a nod and a wink from Tom Fox about an exciting takeover in the near future (even though he was publicly denying it at the time they were negotiating sponsorship).smetro wrote:villabromsgrove wrote:I would have been gobsmacked if we had managed to equal the 'Genting' deal, because that was at a time when AVFC were still a marketable commodity. This guy has said he was hoping to give some more info re the takeover latter part of this week. I don't know how informed he is but worth keeping an eye on just in case.

Just spoke to a guy who I went to Uni with who works in the Finance Department at Villa and he said he was given his notice period last week. Said that there's quite a few in the same boat as him and there's been people going over the books there since the beginning of April. I asked him if he'd come across any Chinese folk but he said he has no idea who's taking us over

So presumably the existing 'lerner' regime have made a few redundancies ? - any reason why ?

Don't get me wrong, we're nowhere where we should be in terms of sponsorship. That's all down to our recent malaise. But we're still one of the most watched sporting teams in the world and command decent fees.
I'm almost certain the QuickBooks sponsorship will be significantly more £5m over 2 seasons. And significantly more than Dafabet. The Genting deal was firstly exaggerated (based on best case) and ended prematurely.
Also, commercial revenue is about a lot more than just shirt sponsorship. Let's judge Fox and Co after all deals are done, not just one. There's a lot of streams we don't really take advantage of and that, in my opinion, is about to change. I think the overall commercial revenue picture will be significantly rosier by this time next year.

He said that there's been loads of people who have been made redundant and the new owners are keen to bring their own people in. Sounds like its a done deal now to be honest.

Can anyone tell me if the Charlie Wijeratna/Baku Games link was explored?
Coincidence or not, given the Azerbaijan takeover link?

I dont think the owners will have any real connection to the sponsorship deal. The sponsorship deal is more about how the club itself has been sold by those involved in arranging the deal.
We have been promoting heavily in China i am sure this has more to do with a massive market rather than potential new owners. I cant remember fully but i am sure we signed a partnership with a Chinese internet site sometime ago.
We also had the half time Chinese New Year video from the players at a game this season. This does potentially point to Chinese owners but would explin why quickbook have signed up with ourselves for sponsorship as they are looking to break the Asian/Chinese market.

I don't remember any updated news on a connection. The European games is being massively funded and Charlie must still have good Azeri connections, but as far as I can see on Google there is no present link with Villa.ViewFromT2 wrote:Can anyone tell me if the Charlie Wijeratna/Baku Games link was explored?

Re: AVFC Takeover Thread, Rumours, Gossip and Hearsay...all goes here
It surprises me how many people are judgemental about Tom Fox, either positively or negatively. Is it really not the case that we don't know what goes on at that level behind the scenes. In due course as accounts are released, we will see what impact he is having on the club. But it's not the same as judging a manager or players. We don't see evidence of performance on match days or by league position. It takes time for the evidence of progress or otherwise to come through.
Surely we must see, that the club has been mismanaged commercially during all of Randy Lerner's well meaning but naive custodianship. To expect that to be turned round in just a few months would be naive to an almost Lerneresque level.

I think you have to separate Fox the man from Fox the CEO. Fox the man is a talented decent individual who is an asset to Villa. Fox the CEO has had to lie through his teeth a number of times to protect the internal attempted recovery job that is going on at AVFC. You have to be prepared to be unpopular when you're the man in charge.DaveAV1 wrote:It surprises me how many people are judgemental about Tom Fox, either positively or negatively.
