Re: The EURO 2016 Thread
I was amazed of your stubborness last night. For 95 minutes you insisted on playing through the middle. No width or good crosses at all. Very easy to defend against.

Totally agree about Jack Wilshire last night. He couldn't pass water last night.

England look like they are struggling to score enough goals to be serious contenders.

Nathaniel Clyne was invisible to you then?

Re: The EURO 2016 Thread
I think Woy has missed a trick not taking Townsend, he would of been perfect last night.
We are through though, that's all that matters, if we progress in the tournament we will have to face the better nations eventually, bring them all on, I hope we get chance to play Germany.
England in the main have played really well, I am pleased with what I have saw so far.

He came around the flank a few times, but the left side was non-existent. And even if Clyne tried, the right winger should have been an option, but it's clear the English tactics doesn't prioritize use of wingers. Which is a mistake. The team simply isn't good enough to get through the middle like Spain can. And Spain that has that ability even utilizes their wingers more than England.
I can see England winning a few matches if they meet good opposition so they can lay deep and counter with Vardy and Sterling on the break, but if they meet other teams where they have to break through established defences, then I think it's game over. Just bad tactics and not a very good team. Just watch the replay of the match last night and notice how every single time they get the ball the first move is to try and get it through the middle. The few times Clyne got involved was because they had played themselves into a tricky position and were in danger of losing possession.

the problem is that our strikers are so many and so feared that the teams we have played have been out-and-out defensive. I did not watch the Wales game but I'd image that Russia attacked a bit. Although Bale is better than any one of our strikers, our strike-force between them is better than Wales's.
similarly Portugal have struggled to score because Iceland and Austria just camped in their own half. Portugal have CR7. He's not a bad player you know (although he played badly against Austria).

Did you fast forward the Nathaniel Clyne involvement then?

I thought England were basically awful sadly. One dimensional predictableness throughout the game.
Yes of course a few (& i stress "few") chances were created but then to a man every England player showed the finishing standard i would expect in the Championship rather than at international level.... it was a panicked aimless whack straight at the keeper usually, Lallana, Sturridge, and a couple of others were all as guilty of it.

Re: The EURO 2016 Thread
I don’t think anyone has tested us yet and when they do we may struggle at the back, we have played 3 teams and it is hard to tell if they came for a draw or we forced them back by regaining control quickly, none of these teams are mugs and have played well to be in this tournament but we will see when we meet a side with more intent, at least we seem to have turned up this time but work to do.

That Skoda playing for the Czech is superb. Wouldn't mind us signing him

I think it's even more awesome Iceland have got where they have in this competition with a keeper who appears to be an absolute fking liability.
1-0 vs Austria at half time.

Well we'll have a chance to test him now!
Interesting to see if it will result in another toothless performance up front - we cannot seem to open up teams who park the bus and Iceland - I think - will surrender possession and go for goals on the break. Whilst this is something we've sort of experienced, I think the fact that they have that gameplan (assuming they repeat their tactics from the first 3 games), the key for us is whether when they do break we can win possession and try to capitalise on the space that will appear behind them, but we'll have to be quick cos my God they work hard to get back into position when they don't have the ball.
Mrs DK has been very quiet since the Austria game, which is always a worry - she said I'm not going to get any Germknoedel tonight which is disappointing (you'll have to google it)

Re: The EURO 2016 Thread
Iceland are attempting the Leicester of the Euros but, assuming they don't play Portugal in the next round, I think Wales are the better bet, they have Bale.
Iceland do have the ability to beat us but if we can somehow get an early goal then it should be a very easy game, it being the knock-out round.

Re: The EURO 2016 Thread
It's good to see teams like Iceland and Wales doing so well! very refreshing.
I think we'll see yet another repeat of the frustrations we saw in the group games personally against Iceland. At the end of the day they know that if they sit back they have a fantastic chance of at least getting to penalties against us.

I think it comes down to width. If you play with wingers I think you will hammer them. Continue with that shite we saw last match, where everyone tried to break through the middle, then Iceland is gonna win.

There's a chap on the Belgian bench tonight who I think looks quite handy. His club are about to spend a fortune on his replacement and I'm sure he wouldn't mind a season in the championship if the wage was good and the promotion incentive was high enough ... Bring him home!
