2016/7 Promotion Thread
We are 2nd favourites for promotion !!!!
Newcastle 5/2
Norwich 9/1
Aston Villa 9/1
Derby 12/1
Brighton 14/1
Odds seem a bit short to me - I wonder if the bookies are factoring in Xia's Millions

I've had us at 10/1 in a E/W double with Jose's ManU 13/2 (he does well 1st/2nd season)........... £15e/w.........Manu in top2 us in top3.... potential winnings £1403.74.
Better value this way.

i like that bet mate and potentially a nice little pay out.4BetLite wrote:I've had us at 10/1 in a E/W double with Jose's ManU 13/2 (he does well 1st/2nd season)........... £15e/w.........Manu in top2 us in top3.... potential winnings £1403.74.

BUT
i will hang on to my money a little longer because if (worse case) we start the season with the rubbish we have now we could well end up going the other way.

Re: 2016/7 Promotion Thread
Can't really understand Newcastle being so much more ahead of us in the bookies eyes. Considering when we last met they had a new manager and we had dickface, they were fighting for their lives and we had nothing to play for and they still couldn't win.
Add to that Ashley has said there's no more money from him once it's gone - and I believe it's gone - whereas we have a new owner with something to prove.
Odd.

I think it is relative with the times, I would expect this to change when a manager has been appointed and new additions are added to the squad.

Re: 2016/7 Promotion Thread
Despite what Ashley said in March, I suspect that Newcastle will be spending money, Benitez wouldn't have agreed to stay on otherwise. Even if they don't spend, they will still be strong challengers with the players already at the club. That's why I didn't really want them to go down.
It's still hard to judge what we're going to do, but if we can hang on to some of our better players and make a few astute signing then I think we can challenge them (Newcastle) for top spot.

Odd.
At this moment in time, quite easy to see why the bookies have them as clearly ahead of us; (1) They have a renowned top tier manager in place and committed to them (2) they've been here before a few short years ago and proved they know how to bounce back (3) they actually have what looks on paper very decent players already there

Re: 2016/7 Promotion Thread
I suppose you could also look at our points total at the end of last season and conclude we're as likely to go down again as come back up. But the new owner negates that in my view.
And if RDM is willing to buy into the new owner, then surely our odds should be closer to theirs.
However however, I suppose Aston Villa will be the prized scalp next season more so than the Geordies so every game will likely be a cup final for the opposition.
Still, those odds seem a little wrong to me.
I would be very interested to know how much Ian Robo has invested in us being relegated. I'm gonna guess zero. Someone tweet him and ask.

Re: 2016/7 Promotion Thread
10 days seems to have been wiped off the Countdown Clock pretty quick and we're seemingly no closer to having the first clue what's going on.
We can guess that the FA will ratify Xia, we can guess that RDM will be the manager and that he'll have his own set of ideas (rather than being solely at the discretion of Riley's signings) and we could even guess that pre-season will be in China.
But it'd be nice to have something concrete, huh?
Tick tock.

Re: 2016/7 Promotion Thread
In January this year the club took the (maybe wrong as it turned out) conservative, financially safe gamble with our premiership future by making NO signings and ended up going down but probably financially in a better position then Newcastle. However, squad wise they are in a better position then us but financially under much more pressure.
Do you think we will go all out for promotion, the DR has indicated his intention to spend, or should we promote youth, stick with the good players we do have that we can persuade to stay, maybe add a couple of good loans and maybe just 1 or 2 signings? The balance needs to be bang on IMO.
We have a lot of players on long contracts, if we add more to it with the sort of quality needed for promotion, will it hamper squad balance when we try to add the big names to get into top 6 prem?
IMO we need a goalkeeper 100% and a midfield rock as captain.
Get rid of gabby, guzan, Richards and lescott and we can pretty much replace them from within.
Bacuna will struggle to find a club, he is a long way from as good as he thinks he is and I think we will be stuck with the w@#k$r.
If we do get RDM, I'm hoping he will be able to sneak in some very good under the radar players on loan, hopefully he is able to get better out of the players we keep and maybe it all works out. Then the DR steps in and we sign some A listers when it makes better sense, instead of some expensive fading A listers now.

I would say we have to go all out for promotion as long as there is repeated funding - it's a big ask as there's a good few need replacing IMHO, but we have three transfer windows between now and the start of 17/18 season. If we do have the money, we ought to be able to recruit who we need for the Championship and then the Prem. I think we should be really ambitious for 16/17, then a little more cautious in 17/18, looking to consolidate our (hopefully) Prem status and then push on with perhaps another large turnover of players in order to target Euro places.
Ambitious I know, but if all pans out as it's promising, so is our owner, so why not plan for success?
Here's another thought - if we do recruit well in the next window and get the right performance from those players deserving of a place, wonder if we could be in with a shout for a good cup run?

Worth a bet in both cups, can't wait to read headlines like Prem giants Leicester face lower league Villa.

3 things that make me think it's fake:
1. There's a placeholder for a click bait ad.
2. The logo is low res shit. Why wouldn't they insert the vector logo?
3. They've drafted this in consultation with the premier league. I suspect the time frame is too tight to have done this when any degree of thoroughness yet.
Maybe.

Think you are right Trotters. I fell for it...removed post since
Just noticed that the pdf was created with an online coverter....highly doubt the FA would convert a 'Top Secret' document with an online converter....lol!

It could be that the doc was leaked and someone converted it.
But for an organisation not short of a quid, it just didn't look right so I'm sure that's not a copy of the original.
However, it if was a document produced from a leak and it IS a pre-release version, how likely are changes?
Oh, no need to remove the post. It is what it is. If it's out there, post it up and we can all make up our own so-called minds. :)

It means you can still put in your 5-team entry in the fixture competition.
