This however doesn't change the fact that you won't get this until Lerner is gone.
He has run this club and budgeted like a championship team since 2010. The fact that we are now going to get relegated won't change that fact. He doesn't care about stabilizing it. He cares about money.
We have a £ 6 million NET spend each season since 2010. This equates to 36 million NET. Bournemouth had £ 40 million NET spend this season alone. Let that sink in for a bit. And people think we will stabilize and get promoted. Hah.

Reasonable villa team that wins the bulk of its home games - is the first milestone we need to hit. That should be achievable over the next couple of seasons despite the dogs breakfast Tom Fox and his mates have left.
Well said Metro, I just want to see a competitive team @ VP and if that means the Championship then so be it, the only decent game I have seen this season is 2-3 v Watford this season, the PL is overrated anyway, I just want to enjoy going to the games once more, these last six years have been turgid!
There is no reason why any club shouldn't dream about winning a cup though, we have only challenged for the league twice in my lifetime (81 & 92) anyway, lets start with XI players who actually give a shit & try & entertain, lets go 442, pace down the wings, get it wide, get it in, goal, simples UTV!

Re: Boardroom structure
Yes i think the first thing they need to do is try to get the fanbase back believing in something again as there is zero belief at all in either the players, management (despite Garde's weekly dose of "we are not done yet BS) or fanbase!
Well we ARE done now ....Norwich's win and our weekly defeat now has us needing 12 points and a big GD swing just to draw level with Norwich & with the two geordie teams having TWO games in hand over us
So with 8 games left we need at least 7 wins to even have a remote chance. That would put us on 37 pts which actually still may not be enough
So with Arsenal & Man u away & games too against
Newcastle, Southampton, Chelsea, Watford & Bournemouth i think we can say it's 100% relegated now.
Well done all concerned

Re: Boardroom structure
the New fledgling board looks ok to me - I do have a slight concern that we have to many people who are involved in AVFC on an ad hoc or part time basis.
I hope and expect that the head of football is full time though. After a disastrous PR start Hollis seems assured and measured in what he does.
But ....and its a big but - the most important decision these guys will make will be the manager. I kind of hope its Moyes or Bruce as this will show the club hasn't took the lazy option of Nigel Pearson.
You can make a case for and against all of them. But at least we are looking at guys who have done what we are asking before.

God I really do not want Bruce. What's so wrong about going for a manager that actually has a job? Rowett > Bruce

The Bernstein interview was goin so well I slipped into my son's away kit to be closer to the badge.
Then he said "...if we stay up..." & I suddenly feared for his sanity.

I hope it's not Hollis, they'll be getting plain digestives and rich teas if he's left to pick.

Re: Boardroom structure
The structure should be fairly simple. Money man and football man.
Manager says to football man "I want this player"
Football man either disagrees and the two discuss it,
Or agrees and says to money man "we want this player, can you get him?"
Money man negotiates a deal fitting in with his budget.

i concur. All these directors are no use. Save the wages and rather sign a footballer that isn't completely useless

Re: Boardroom structure
Bernstein has said they are no rush to appoint a new manager, which interesting because Im sure a few week ago he was saying how much work there was to be done over the summer and how we need to get on with it.
I agree with not making hasty decisions - But IMO Moyes the stand out candidate is available - it would be ludicrous IMO to be pouring over the credentials of other candidates, (many of whom are attached to clubs) the the board finally agree Moyes is the best candidate.......oh he's gone to Newcastle.
I can fully understand the new manager not wanting his first match to confirm relegation -Lets hope its all going on behind the scenes.

Re: Boardroom structure
Smetro, it may be because we have about 6 weeks before the end of the season and, as we have feck all to play for, (not even pride now), the board will probably give themselves as much time as they can to get the right bloke in.
For me, if its a manager already in a job, nothing will happen til the Summer. If its a free agent, then something may happen in the days after we are officially relegated next weekend

According to The Current Bun, we're interested in Andy Townsend for DOF. Sounds fanciful to me, but who am I to argue with such an august publication?

Quite honestly we have enough people, football or businessmen, on various boards to make decisions, it is starting to get silly!

Yep - you can't fudge the manager position.
The road we appear to be going down is we appoint a lesser manager - but surround him with helpers. It won't work - and any manager worth his salt won't come and work in such a structure. If this happens I expect the manager the be of the calibre of Southgate or Coleman.
Just appoint the best manager we can attract and let him get on with it.

They were saying on WM last night that Little is only on the board until the end of the season. If so that looks like an appointment to pacify fans.

It wouldn't surprise me. We have seen this type of thing happen for the last 3 or 4 seasons now, where hopes/expectations are raised with media leaks/whispers of takeovers or signings etc. It's gotten to the point where my mindset treats it as Lerner bullshit until such point as it becomes reality..........which it never has in those years. It's supposed to calm the fans and keep the tills ringing. Hasn't worked with me for the last two summers, won't this time.

Or Little could have been brought on to help with the new manager search? He wouldn't be needed beyond that

Remember what Lerner has always done, appointed managers as fall guys. Lerner's name is no longer in the match programme. Hollis is the new fall guy.
