Re: Christian Benteke
Ok the beast has gone, totally gutted he was an excellent player for us and I wish him well . I have calmed down after seeing him in the bin dippers shirt. So cool calm and collected. Now my Mrs would say what do we do now?
We need to look at the best of the bunch, and the scouting has to try to come up with another Tekkers, hard I know but that's what they are paid for. We need another two strikers because Gabby and Kojak, haven't got 20 goals a season in them.
So we go into another season thinking this might be the one that gets up the drop. I like the signings so far. and have a small amount of optimism, this is based on Mr Sherwood alone. So its suck it and see for the next few weeks to see if the money is released to keep us up, or will Mr Learner fill a couple of carry bags stashed with cash and jump on his private jet.
Its going to be interesting.
Confucius say: may you live in interesting times. Obviously not a villa supporter then.

Have we got any good, young, strikers coming through the ranks - a la Gary Shaw?

Not in my opinion. Robinson has some talent, but he ducks 50/50 tackles on a regular basis which is not what you need in a striker. Andre Green is probably our best attacking prospect, but he's a natural winger.Deano69 wrote:Have we got any good, young, strikers coming through the ranks - a la Gary Shaw?

Sellars seems to know where the net is. It's a good trait unless he's just a flash in the pan. If we'd paid £15m for him last week and he came from Holland or France, we'd be high-fiving after the last two days.

Re: Christian Benteke
Sellars is enthusiastic enough and he bagged a couple again last night for the U21's (penalty and pounced on a mistake). He played 35 games last season and scored just 5 goals, which is more of a reflection of where he's at than the last 48 hours.Cha Ching wrote:Sellars seems to know where the net is. Yes. I read Sellars scored 3 goals in 2 reserve games. Anyone know how old his is, and where he came from? He seems to have popped up from nowhere, to playing with the first team squad.
Ignore. I should have read villabromsgove's post before pressing send!

I read that he was only signed in his last year at school, so he's a late starter. He's a Lincoln lad.Deano69 wrote:Yes. I read Sellars scored 3 goals in 2 reserve games. Re: Christian Benteke
Personally I wish him well and thank him for his goals for the Villa but I won't be a hypocrite and wish him well at the scouse git's because as you can see, I have always had a deep dislike towards them and that will never change

I'm surprised that he wanted to join Liverpool.
Manager's style of football
Not in Champions league
Number of existing strikers etc. etc.
I wish him well though, and thank him for the goals and the glimpses of greatness.

Re: Christian Benteke
Hepburn Murphy and Sellars are very promising from what I hear. I don't watch as much as I used to so I have to take people's word for it. But words I trust. Sullieman looks like a natural defender. I also used to think Donacien would definitely make it but again, I've not seen him play for a year or so.

Hepburn Murphy is promising, but needs game time imo. Should go out on loan, Sellars has just had a couple of good games, nothing to get excited about, again just my opinion of them.

Re: Christian Benteke
Change the tickertape aye guys? - It's bad enough that he has gone to the bin dippers without constantly being reminded of him, of lerner's inteptitude, of the clubs lack of communication etc etc, or of Wilkins telling us how hard it is to replace him. You log onto the site and for a microsecond you think could he stay? then the brain kicks in.

Re: Christian Benteke
Pretty sure that Benteke going is one of the best things that could have happened. Will result in a much stronger squad/team and force change to a much more varied style.

Am I being bitter? Looking at the various photos of Benteke in the Liverpool top, training gear etc it looks tacky cheap shit, not fit for a team potentially challenging for CL qualification.

New Balance makes cheap shit. They're the lowest quality brand of athletic gear you can get here in the USA.
Also, Benteke's comments about how he was offended by Sherwood's comments that Liverpool would be a bad club for him because they don't cross the ball is hilarious. Benteke wins more aerial battles than any other forward in European top flight football. It's his biggest strength and Liverpool won't play to it, so Tim was right in pointing it out. Benteke is an idiot.
Watching the Liverlol match right now, 30 minutes in and they haven't looked threatening at all. Benteke looks like he's playing for us under Lambert again. Isolated alone up top, with the supporting midfielders running down blind alleys, trying to cut inside instead of crossing it to the big man.

Re: Christian Benteke
Sherwood's comments about how Liverpool would need to adapt to Benteke looked right based on that performance.
He looked isolated and Ibe was out done by experience.
How did they end up with 3 minutes added on after that clash of heads in the second half and we got 5 minutes yesterday and I don't remember the physio coming on.

Re: Christian Benteke
The fucking offside rule is a disgrace. Simplify it - if you are on your feet and on the pitch, you are in play. None of this 1st phase or 2nd phase.
When I played in goal, ANY player who was in front of me caused a distraction. You don't know if they are offside at the time. If I had 2 people stood in front of me and 1 was offside and the other wasn't I'd still watch them both.

Re: Christian Benteke
That's exactly right. The goalkeeper still has to watch them, the defence still has to watch them.
The only times you could realistically rule that a player isn't interfering with play was if he was on the ground injured or doing his laces up and makes no attempt to get up and chase the ball.
