It's like listening to Dougal off of Father Ted.

All I got from that game is that I hope Houston get relegated.

A mixed bag of a performance for me...
1st half: Solid defensively, poor going forward.
2nd half: Very Very poor defensively, ok going forward.
Bent/Hutton/N'Zogbia all look like they want to play for the shirt again.

No relegation in MLS. Bottom team get's first dibs on draft picks/designated players from abroad. Americanized football system.

Seems it wasn't just an off day against Dallas for that 2nd half team as they were out first against Houston and were just dire. No clue at all. I started peeling potatoes for lunch.
The alternates were a huge upgrade though they seemed to struggle too. The effective zone defence was discarded which seemed to expose Clark a lot and boy did he look like a bag of shit!
Hutton, Grealish, Gardner, Nzog and Senderos all looked ok.
There's a lot of work and a lot of thinking to do before the season starts.

replay of the match, fast forward to 59.30 minutes for the goal, which is worth the watch for the commentary alone
"thats a ball., served back in for joe bennetts to score one nothing"

Highlights of the game and not much to get excited about at this stage of the season and fitness levels still improving.

Wouldn't it be great if English football was like this? Seems more fair, everyone gets a chance. Makes things more competitive instead of just having 75% of the league just there to make up the numbers.

Just watched a bit of the video posted above. Love the commentator! You can tell when Bennet scored he quickly looked him up on wikipedia and said a few facts off there. Bennet started off in the Middlesbro academy.
Also, wasn't that game for a cup? haven't seen any pictures of it?

Re: Aston Villa Texas Tour 2014: Match Reports and Comments Thread
Paul Lambert saw his Villa team sign-off their USA tour with a 1-0 win over Houston Dynamo and said: "Everything about this trip has been very good."
Boss Lambert has been pleased with the two wins - Houston preceded by a 2-0 victory over FC Dallas - and the fitness strides his players have made in warm-weather training.
Lambert said: "It was hard in this game because of the heat. It's very hard to play in.
"But I was delighted with them again.
"It was really, really pleasing in these conditions. It was another win - and it rounds off this mini-tour really well.
"Dallas was warm but in Houston, it's a dead heat. It was really tough. But I was really happy with the team.
"For the goal, it was a good ball in from Andi and an unlikely goalscorer in Joe. But it will have done him the world of good. He should have scored earlier with his first chance.
"Alan and Darren had efforts too and Gary had a shot which came off the post.
"Young Jack Grealish did well for us. He's got a talent. We just have to nurture him in the right way.
"And I thought Kieran Richardson was outstanding.
"I was delighted with them. It's been great. It really has. It's been a tough few days. But the lads have been excellent.
"Dallas was a great venue as was Houston. They have made us welcome. Everything on this trip has been very good."
Lambert was optimistic on the fitness of Jores Okore, Fabian Delph and Joe Cole post-match.
He revealed Okore missed the Dynamo game as a precaution with a knee injury picked up in training - but he doesn't believe it's too serious.
It was the same verdict when he was asked about Delph, who came off with a foot injury in the second half against Dynamo.
The gaffer also revealed that Joe Cole is "doing well" as he battles to overcome a thigh injury.

"Young Jack Grealish did well for us. He's got a talent. We just have to nurture him in the right way."
So we should expect to see little of him in Lambert's tried and trusted dog-shit 4-3-3 formation.
I dunno what the story is with Richardson. I thought he was signed as a left winger but he seemed to be playing in the hole behind Bent.
The first half was a mess. Just a complete uncoordinated mess. The 2nd half was much improved and I was starting to think we're not too bad. Then I watched Man Utd against Roma and their ability to string 10, 15, 20 passes together and realised that we're a million light years from being a quality side.
Having said that, we DO have a decent side that I believe is capable of a top half finish...easy! But it's up to Lambert to fit the right players in the right formation and get them playing the right way.
In other words, we're fucked again.

Didn't watch the game - just seen the goal - I will watch the game at Chesterfield live and see how we look.
Not got a clue on what team or formation lambert is looking at using next season yet.

Let's not start comparing us to United, they had a terrible season last year but are still United.

Was just trying to say that we look flat out passing it to a team mate. Shouldn't be all that hard. Should it?

Gabby and Bent is a worry for me. Unless Gabby ups his game and Bent gets some weight shifted and gets fully fit we could be in bother.Jim wrote:Expect the tactics and formations will start to become clear in the next friendlies, no more signings and I expect this will be the tram v stoke

Replace gabby with nzogbia and those would be my 11.with Westwood playing deeper .
