Re: The next Villa Manager
Villajk also thought Gardner would solve our midfield troubles, I'd take his opinion with a grain of salt

Well you think a lot of things it seems.
And yes Westwood is a better footballer than Gardner. Proven by him being picked in front of Gardner by 5 managers running.

Re: The next Villa Manager
Wasn't Pearson the 1st choice till RDM came in, what happened at Derby?, is he still a viable option. Personally, I don't like the bloke but like others have said, we need someone who can dish out a bollocking or 2.
Theres no difference between gardner and westwood. Its Lydens turn.
I think we should get Hiddink and offer him a 5million promotion bonus.

Yes, we've been shafted by the previous owner. He set in the rot with his austerity program that stripped us of talent.
Yes, we've have some some managers that have been unable to turn us round into the footballing giants that we all dream off. They have also had the handicap of the owner not caring so long as we seemed to survive.
So the question is what do we want?
We need someone that can give this shapeless, clueless mob, a purpose. They need a manager who can kick their arses and play like a team, not rabbits in headlights.
Promotion? Play-off? I dont really give a shit at the moment. I want to see a few Ws in the column and confidence on the field.
Is it a job for someone up and coming??
What is this "used to be big" stuff? We've been crap for five years and yet STILL we remains the fourth most successful club in the history of English football and even in these torrid five years we've been to two cup finals and two semi-finals. The club's current situation shouldn't define it's name. You don't take five thousand fans away from home twice in a week at a lower level than the premiership if you're not "big". You also don't spend over 100m in twelve months either if you're not big. We've had some clueless managers and have been unfortunate to get in players who haven't done what it says on the tin. The Gods don't seem to be with us at the moment but it'll change soon enough...it has to at some point.

No thanks mate.

Re: The next Villa Manager
Speaking of boozing at work, I have somewhere, in a book of Villa quotes, an anecdote from Vic Crowe's time as manager. Just before the players left the dressing room before the game, they passed round a bottle of scotch and all had a swig. When the bottle got to Vic he took two swigs. A young apprentice asked Vic why they did that, he replied, "When you've been here as long as me son, you'll know why!"
That's the Villa for you, never boring, always special.

I hope DR X doesn't fancy having a go at being the manager - remember he recorded a good luck message for the team to be played before the Preston game.
Which, come to think of it, was a strange thing for RDM to request (as he apparently did). Was he already running out of motivational speeches?

Re: The next Villa Manager
I'm not convinced yet, but if Di Matteo is sacked, I'm not going to get excited or disappointed by the names linked. Just going to wait and see how the new manager does first. As we've seen, the excitement level of fans over recent appointments isn't really an indication of how things will turn out results wise.
we could bring in Pep and I wouldn't be happy until we actually won some games lol, as that's the name of the game, it's about time we had something positive to talk about relating to play on the pitch rather than new managerial appointments and takeovers and whatever else.
All that said there are of course some names more exciting than others. My guess is it's either going to be an up and coming manager in the English game, like Johnson, Wagner, Smith, or someone from the continent. Don't think it will be Allardyce, Bruce or Rowett.

Re: The next Villa Manager
Apparently Round is a Wagner fan? And I don't think he like opera or that bloke off the X-Factor?
The whole point of bringing in Round was to give us a philosophy behind our football throughout the club? Therefore that kind of rules out people like Bruce whose football style is closer to rugby?

Re: The next Villa Manager
Clarke as caretaker manager in the interim, although we have played crap we appear to have the basis of a good coaching setup, if there was friction between RDM and the players/coaches we will find out vs wolves, I for one would prefer Clarke to get it over the likes of bruce
