It has to be a prolific striker with lots of pace and targetman abilities. That limits the search a lot

It's a longshot but Bas Dost he is a top striker, won't rule out Van Persie either

How many "world Class number 9s" actually exist now? I'm struggling way before a list of 30!

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
It's like solving a murder: there needs to be the means (Xia has this), the opportunity (players willing to be let go by their club or out of contract) and the motive.
David Villa would probably be within the club's price and I'm sure Xia would be looking at the marketing opportunities around a signing like that.
But what would be the motive for the player? He's made a tonne of money already, has played with the best and won plenty and is living in fantastic New York.
Nah! Cannot for the life of me see it. Why would he come to the Championship to play for a failed club currently in recovery?
What I can see is someone like an 18 year old version of Neymar. It's all ahead of him, we'd offer him more game time and brilliant facilties plus the chance to market him worldwide.
If not someone like that then maybe a fallen star looking to rebuild.
Or maybe the term "world class" is just a tiny bit of an exaggeration.

I'd be over the moon with Hernandez & Yedlin but I still think we need a creative midfielder. Someone that can find that killer pass.

Since Veretout probably off, then another MF is a must for me. Don't all kick my ass at once but I've always rated Seb Larson and we need a stronger bench so he might be realistic.

I think world class is exaggerated too because lets be real how could we attract that kind of player however even if hes brilliant or very very good i think we'll all be very happy with whoever comes in. ASTON VILLA PREPARING BID FOR 26-YEAR-OLD PREMIER LEAGUE STAR – REPORT
21st August, 2016, 9:56 PM
By Will Butcher
Championship giants Aston Villa are set to make a bid for Hull City’s Uruguay international Abel Hernandez, according to a report.
This comes after the 26-year-old declared that he wouldn’t hesitate over a move to the Midlands club, even though a move would see the former Palermo striker drop divisions.
Spanish newspaper Fichajes have claimed that the striker is set to be the subject of a bid, with Villa looking to tie up a deal in the coming days.
The forward was the Tigers’ top goalscorer last term, and his 22 strikes in 45 league and cup encounters helped Hull win the play-offs.
Hernandez joined Hull from Italian side Palermo in 2014 for a club-record fee of £10million, but the Uruguayan subsequently struggled in the top-tier of English football as they were relegated into the second-tier in the 2014/15 season.
The Premier League club, who currently are without a manager following the exit of Steve Bruce, will want to keep their star striker as they bid to secure safety in what is likely to be a difficult season.
Villa have openly spoken about adding a striker to their ranks after relegation last term which saw them find the net on only 27 occasions.
Roberto Di Matteo’s side recently purchased striker Ross McCormack from Championship rivals Fulham for a fee of £12 million, but Villa owner Tony Xia has hinted in recent weeks that there will be more signings at Villa Park, via his Twitter account.

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
"World Class" will be either:
(a) plays for his country and is well known
(b) Has MASSIVE potential to be world class (like a young Neymar).
(c) a truly world class start that is way past their peak/already semi-retired.
For (c) I'm thinking the likes of Klose, Drogba...fuck it, let's get Ronaldinho in!
But I think "world class" is Xia getting a bit ahead of himself so it's likely to be (a).

I've always felt that Kevin Mirallas would be value for money .. Underrated IMHO. I'd like Hernandez too - not sure he's world class though.

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
Another name doing the rounds is Mariano Díaz Mejía . He's a prolific striker from the Real Madrid B team. And when you think about it it fits in with Dr Xia's tweet about a week ago when he said "We're trying to sign a REAL number 9 striker" with a smiley face next to it.
Don't know if we'd get him permanently just yet but HERE is a video of some of his goals and HERE is a video of his goal and performance against Chelsea a few weeks ago in pre-season.
I know we as fans wouldn't exactly term him as "world class" but a guy from Madrid perhaps gets the good Doctor a tad excited .

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
it's obviously not going to be someone world class, in the sense that we've come to understand the term, i.e it won't be one of the best strikers in the world. But I think we can forgive Xia for that. Does sound like it will be someone who might be viewed as a coup though.
Slimani was the first name that I thought of when I saw the tweet, even that would seem unrealistic, talking of which Jackson Martinez was getting a mention on twitter last night because of the China connection. The most likely candidate is probably Hernandez not world class, but would be a very good and ambitious signing all the same.

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
loving all the speculation, but Saturday showed that we are in need of more quality in the squad.
looking at the bench, there was a lack of depth there. if I recall, apart from Green there was no midfielders on the bench (but I stand to be corrected)
With the number of yellow cards already building up, players are going to spend a lot of time suspended and we need backup.
Yes, we need a striker. would be amazing to get a figurehead / marquee signing - but I would prefer that "number 10" creative midfielder get signed. someone who can see the killer pass to split defences open. Its obvious teams are going to be defensive v us and we need someone who can break this down.
But if we do get a striker. Let's buy pace. (Thinking Gabby pace from 2009, Tony Daley pace, Mark Walters pace, Julian Joachim pace,Nigel Callahan pace)
We have no pace upfront (Gestede, Kozak etc) and when we break on counter we are lacking.
So that's a RB, Creative Mid and a pacey striker please.

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
Its very nice to think of a marquee signing but what we REALLY need is a goal scorer whether would class or not and a creative midfielder or two, lets get out of this league before we bring in the "names" having said that it is nice to speculate.
