A hovercraft of eels...it's the Tony Xia thread.
Well, after doing a bit of digging on Rui Kang (who have no money) I thought I'd do the same on Dr Xia.
What we know:
Xia is the CEO / Chairman of Recon Group.
(Note, that doesn't mean owner - they are privately owned. May or may not be him)
EDIT - reported widely that it is him.
Recon Group is hard to Google (thanks to the American army). But they own the controlling interest in 5 publically listed companys.
One of those is Lotus Health, you can see here.
http://markets.ft.com/research/Markets/Tearsheets/Summary?s=600186:SHH
The Market Cap of lotus is 5.7bn CNY, or about £0.6bn.
(Interestingly, the director is listed as Jiantong Xia, EDIT - Tony's real name!)
That is one of 5 companies. So Recon Group CAN afford to buy Aston Villa.
And one of the 5 companies they control is worth about the same as Mr Lerner. ($1bn, about £0.7bn)
So they pass the first test.
The next (business related) questions are:
EDIT already answered.
Does Tony own Recon Group, or just work there?
Who does own Recon Group, and will they use their funds to invest behind the Villa
Is the owner The Chineese Government
Of course there are also better short term questions like;
Who will run the club
Who's the next manager
Will Tony give us a wave
Do we have to sing "Dr Tony, Give us a wave?" because he's a Doctor
Still, interesting times. Definitely serious money involved here.

Based on nothing - my hunch is will pump around the same money in as lerner. My hope is he runs the club more sensibly.

According to the official site yesterday, 'Dr. Tony Jiantong Xia is the Chairman/CEO and owner of Recon Group'. Although details on the xwho design website would suggest that Recon have been around since the early sixties.

Hoping it's not lazy journalism to link him as owner. But it's part of the announcements too that he's the owner.
His background does make him sound like a spoiled kid a little - most Chineese kids don't get to go to foreign colleges etc, so maybe born with a silver spoon in his mouth, could explain why Recon were founded early sixties???

I don't know he could have inherited them or somehow bought them. Either way having gone to Harvard, Oxford and MIT, he certainly seems switched on.

As for his age? Somewhere between 30 and 75. We'll find out soon enough. Chinese people don't seem to age quickly until they hit about 75. Then their hair falls out and they look like yoda.
The Chinese men don't fair much better.

Link from one of the other threads. A translate option should pop up.

He's a billionaire with lots of businesses. If he hasn't pissed a few people off then he's not being a proper billionaire.

Recon Group is Rui Kang. Go onto the website www.reconig.com, translate to English and the evidence will be straight in front of you.

I have no sympathy for self inflicted headaches. However, I CAN recommend a doctor.

whoop whhop
Xia said he will spend between 30 and 40 million pounds on new players for the upcoming season, and will announce a new club manager in the next two to three weeks. Aston Villa, the historic English club that was relegated from the English Premier League this season, was one of eight Premier League clubs that Xia considered for acquisition, he said during an interview in Beijing on Thursday.

Re: A hovercraft of eels...it's the Tony Xia thread.
Without seeing it, I'll guess it's about some claim from someone at Harvard that he was a bit naughty, making his papers a bit more than they were really worth.
It's China. They billshit a lot.
But if it IS about that, I'll counter with him being at Harvard for years after so the complaint was obviously pointless.

Re: A hovercraft of eels...it's the Tony Xia thread.
The tl;dnr version of that is that he's claimed to be a Harvard phd but that's actually on hold. He ONLY has a masters degree from Harvard.
He's stuck his dick into some Harvard birds which hasn't best pleased his wife.
He knows how to blag a deal and get finance.
So, as billionaires go, he's not the worst one (I'm looking at all the shifty Russians now).
An interesting if stunningly badly written comment from that site follows:
According to journalists who looked into the matter when ADO Den Haag was bought be a Chinese businessman there is a subsidies scheme implemented by the Chinese government to stimulate football in China.
The Chinese basically want to catch up in the footballing world and invested heavily. So Chinese owned clubs are eligible for subsidies and tax brakes. Owners plan to sifon over know how and mid management to extract experience, injecting people from outside the club in monitoring functions.
