Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
Gestede looked like he gave a shit, looked like he wanted to play and never did anything detrimental to the club or fans (Gabby's celebration on scoring his single goal, Lescott taking us for chumps, Bacuna's existence). He was consistently played incorrectly and I think did well, bearing in mind he should have had Ayew in the middle with him and not just been reliant on crosses from Hutton. I'm tempted to add him to my must-keep core of Amavi, Okore, Gueye and Ayew. Are we going to be ok though with Sinclair on the left wing and Traore on the right? Bit of a gamble, although I think Sinclair will do well under a decent manager, he was excellent for Swansea as a winger in a 4-4-2 (rather than on the left or right in a 4-3-3, or behind the striker, or wherever else he was played last season). Thinking about it, Sinclair, Gestede and Richards were consistently played incorrectly/out of position last season.
Having watched a fair bit of Reading in the Championship I'd say that both Sinclair and Traore will do well.

I think Gestede is proper shit. Useless one trick pony. However if RDM is all about wingers and whipping in balls it might work. If he isn't we should just replace.

Gestede is an option that we should have imo, if so then Sinclair is ok if can get back in business. Traore could blow the league away but unproven. I'd keep the same names plus veretout.......... and for effort shown Hutton and Westwood as squad players along with the good youngsters. The others, pfffffffff.
Black said the club was toxic, enough so to put the ones that cared off their game. A lot underachieved or affected others to underachieve too. That is the 1st priority and RDM should have had enough info already to get some idiots out, but how? Like smetro said earlier, we need a buyer.
Whatever is left can be moulded and added to.

I also think we need options, I don't believe we should find one formation and play every game the same way (think Lambert with Gabby, Benteke and Weimann up front) as unless you have the very best players, it makes it easier for the opposition to play against you. One thing Ayew can do is play on the left and right in a 4-3-3, as well as through the middle. Gestede might be a one-trick pony but he's bloody good at it. Bent was a one-trick pony too and it can pay off.

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
I'm not saying one trick ponys can't work.
I'm saying it depends on RDMs tactic. As far as I know he's known for packing the midfield and not the MON type of wing play that you need for Gestede to work.
Secondly and this is just a personal preference, I don't like one trick ponys. Give me an allround striker any day.

Don't think it'll happen but what a signing he'd be. More of a statement than Lambert. Ings and McCormack up top and then Ayew out the door? Gestede on the bench to offer a different approach if needed.
Would just need to sort out the midfield, defence and keeper...

I'd love to keep Ayew but the chances are fucking slim and we need to accept that. Ayew and Ings would be immense but is unlikely let's be fair

I wasn't arguing with you, just making a point in general.
We need to keep Ayew and with one really good, proven, all-round striker I think we'll have a very good chance of scoring a lot of goals. If we had Ayew and two really good, proven all-round strikers then sure, let go of Gestede.
I bang on about Okore, Amavi, Gueye and Ayew because I really do believe they have a big future, and bearing in mind the only clubs in the PL likely to come in for them will be lower half ones like Bournemouth or the Baggies, if RDM wants to keep them and the financial incentive is there, the master plan needs to be driven home. They need to be convinced we have the investment to not only mould a team together in the Championship but we can gain promotion and push on in the PL and they will be a major part of it. Not just doing what we were doing these last few seasons and just keeping our heads above the parapet (see: Bournemouth, the Baggies and so on) but building a team to take us into the top 10 and beyond.
For the last five or six years we've known our best players will be cherry picked and off to better teams. Surely the hiring of RDM and Clarke shows the new owner has the ambition and cash to move us on? Does it not suggest we don't have to accept that Ayew, Amavi and Gueye will be off but that our relegation to the Championship might only be temporary?

I have a cracking hangover today
Quote from Ayew: 'For now, I'm still a Villa player. We'll see what God has for me.'
Not another one.

In fairness, earlier in the interview he says that he has been home, hasn't heard any rumours about him leaving and has told his agent not to come to him with any. He says relegation hurt, but mentions that it hurt the non-playing staff at the club.

I actually think that he may stay when once I was certain he would leave.
Just get the impression that he might be one to try to 'right' last season and get us promoted!

He owes us for that sending off against Liverpool.

I still think it is highly unlikely he will be here next season. Not impossible but tough to hold onto.
I'd love him to stay, he's clearly skilled but also has a bit of attitude and desire.

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
If he's been told the plans Dr X has for the club, then he won't be rushing for the exit (if they are as big as we think they are).
I personally think we'll be able to keep hold of those that we want to.

On the day the sale went through, RDM stated that he'd had a telephone conversation with every player and that ALL the players that he wanted to stay were happy to do so, with that in mind I'd say Ayew will be staying.
