Its believed @AVFCOfficial will approach @CelticFC for permission to speak to Brendan Rodgers. Ex-Celt and Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov could also have talks. Thierry Henry along with John Terry strongly mentioned.

Don't know why Stan would be mentioned as it is a bit off the wall?
Nothing against Stan but lets leave sentiment at the door!

Re: Next Aston Villa manager thread
Sky now reporting that Petrov has applied for the manager's job. If we're going to interview Henry and Terry, then I suppose we also have to interview him as well, as he's just as qualified. Yorke's different, because of the amount of time he's been out of the game.
My worry with Petrov would be that considering the managers he's played under, he'd probably have us playing a very similar brand of football to that which we've already seen over the last ten years or so, which stands to reason considering he played under many of those managers, so may not offer us the change in direction that we need... He'd probably make a good coach though.

Sky linking Martinez now. It's being dismissed by many, along with the Petrov rumour, as Sky just trying to get people to place bets with 'Sky Bet', but they don't actually own sky bet anymore, as it was sold earlier this year.

Meanwhile, on H&V there is a report of Terry at VP today.

My concern as regards Terry Henry is that very good ex players very rarely become top managers especially in England, i can think of Dalglish back in the day , but I’m struggling after that, but we’ll never know until we try, we’ve gone through the proven manager at this level route & Bruce failed big time.
Let’s hope we have a little luck with our next appointment because the longer we stay at this level, the harder it’ will become to get promoted

According to 'Appy 'Arry another former knuckle dragger and 12 finger freak Henry is going to turned us down? He heard this whilst at a charity do with JT over the weekend?

Thinking back, the Henry rumour has been there since the Summer - anyone know why or how the connection was made?

The owners are Arsenal fans, which is about as far as I know.

Redknapp won't have a clue if Henry wants the job or not, or even if we've offered it to him. He's just trying to put in a good word for his mate Terry. At this stage it seems obvious that no one has a clue what's going on... We could end up appointing someone who hasn't even been mentioned yet... One name that I thought might have been linked is Željko Buvač, he left Liverpool as Klopp's assistant because he wanted to be a manager in his own right... I don't think it will be him, but if Faria is being mentioned.

Ah okay. When the smoke has lingered for so long it's difficult to know if it's from an actual fire or someone furiously rubbing sticks together in the hope of one!

Re: Next Aston Villa manager thread
The thing of Sawiris being an Arsenal fan is probably an exaggeration, because he's been to a few of their games. It came from either Moxley or Nursey when Henry was originally linked at the start of the season, in yet another article written to put Bruce in a good light, and make it look like he was being hard done by, by owners who wanted to replace him with one of their favorite players.

Never heard of him before but absolutely, why not?

If that's the case - that it was a name plucked out of the air purely for a comparison article - then it would make his appointment highly unlikely. Unless the article gave the owners the idea to follow up on it.
I still wonder if it'll be all tied into the appointment of the DOF.

Apparently Monaco now after Henry? One of his early clubs IIRC?

I’m really hoping the club go all out for Brendan Rogers. That’s the right manager to go for, we should at least ask the question and try. He’s been very polite about us and pretty much invited the question. Go get him.

I think any of the managers rumoured to have said 'no' - will not become our new manager:-
Rodgers
Smith
Henry
All now unlikely (IMO of Course)

Re: Next Aston Villa manager thread
I'd be slightly underwhelmed with Terry coming as manager, it wouldn't feel like enough of a departure from Bruce, and the worry would be that he'd just try and replicate what we were doing last season whilst he was here.
If Henry is going to Monaco then it's a pity their departing manager Leonardo Jardim is probably out of our reach, builds exciting teams, and good with youth, would be ideal for us, but will have much better offers.

Understand Jesus Garcia Pitarch, formerly of Valencia, has started work at
#avfc as sporting director and is involved in process to appoint manager
Interestingly Pitarch was at Valencia at the same time as Cesare Prandelli who as it happens is an Aston Villa fan. Also of note that he was at Atlético Madrid alongside Quique Sánchez Flores.

He's a journalist that works for the daily mail. Would be strange for him to tweet that, unless he was pretty sure.
