He will cost money in compensation so that may be a sticking point!
That probably leads us to an out of work manager.

Most likely Achilles. Very true.
Can someone ask Terry if he's come to Villa on Instagram or twitter please?

The fact that Terry has retired from playing makes me wonder if it's he who's coming in as manager, because if he was coming in as just a coach or even an assistant manager he probably could have carried on playing at the same time, if he wanted to... But if he is coming in as Henry's assistant then fair play to him, as not many would do that after being interviewed for the manager's job themselves.

I'm not sure Terry is qualified.

I think he has all his badges now but I believe that he doesn't think he is ready for a managers job yet and wants to start with coaching.

Henry's wages would probably pay for themself, with the commercial revenue that having a globally recognizable face like him as manager will bring in. Which should be a big help to us with FFP.

Big no for Henry from me. He is 3rd coach to Martinez ? - (He gives the bibs out at training sessions) - he isn't right for us - He is getting the job because he is a hero of our majority shareholder.
Keep it simple appoint the best man you possibly can, don't fudge the manager position - its been done before - its why we are in this division.
Well our most recent ex manager won 4 promotions but that meant nothing when he arrived with us or for the 2 years he was with us other than he used to remind everyone of it at every press conference and interview? Sometimes a winning mentality or passion work for example Darren Moore has zero previous experience as a manager yet he has the boggies in second?
We are the Belgium of the Championship at the moment, with the most talented squad, full of individual superstars? Maybe we need a superstar management team to bring them in line and playing together? Perhaps Henry hands out the bibs but from the rumours it is far more than Potato Head ever did at training (other than handing out the kebabs?)?
No one knows what Henry and Co will be like as managers but what would you rather? Fat Sam? Pardew? Mad Mick? Yorkie? I think we are all sure that we know what we will get from them? Dross! It's a gamble but we have had our champions League winning manager and our promotion (also read relegation specialist) so maybe now we try young and inexperienced?

Two things with Terry - if he was coming here we'd need him to play at CB until Christmas and we can bring in reinforcements. More importantly, he agreed to come here in the first place over a game of golf with Bruce, who is now gone, along with all his coaching staff, Xia, Round and Wyness. Sure, he knows the club and players, just not his potential employers.
I must say I'd really like Henry and Terry at Villa as attacking and defending coaches but not necessarily in overall command.

Christ I've seen some nonsense on TBAR before but that takes the biscuit!
Have a look what Lukaku says about Henry:

The Daily Record this morning, reporting that we want Rodgers, and he hasn't actually ruled himself out, despite the misleading BBC headline. It leaves me conflicted as he was my first choice out of all the possibly realistic names, but over the last few days the idea of Henry has really grown on me. Would be happy with either.

When you see the interview and actually listen to what Rodgers says, I’d suggest he’s inviting the offer rather than ruling himself out! Maybe it’s a bit of football politics going on and Rodgers is looking to force the Celtic board into transfer action, who knows? But rule himself out he did not

It was tongue in cheek. But I believe Martinez has a number of assistant managers - of which Henry is one. So in that sense he isn't Martinez right hand man. (or at least wasn't)
Any manager can find a few endorsements - Remember Stuart Gray - everywhere he went he was luaded as a 'top class coach' - couldn't get a team to win a match to save his life.
I hope I m wrong but I think Henry will be a shit manager....and for those saying weve done tried and tested - true - but weve also done risky with Sherwood and Garde.
The Terry thing is a bit of mystery - if he was coming here, would the option of him playing not be a bonus ? - So it would seem odd having been short of a CB - the instant he announces he isn't playing anymore - we recruit him. I am not yet convinced Terry as coach isn't just a rumour.
We shall see.

Yes I read that. But I think he is out of the running now tbh. The rumour mill in terms of managers saying 'no' does tend to be pretty accurate.
Although I did post what I heard is that other than a list of candidates - the managerial search starts today. - ...Who knows...

Expecting an appointment to be announced today.
The owners will want the new guy(s) to have the maximum time to get to know and work with the senior squad and prepare for Swansea.

I don't think it is as far along as people think. Martinez said on Friday there had been no approach from Villa to the Belgium FA. Maybe we held talks with Henry in the summer - so the framework is in place and the button just needs to be pushed.

Re: Next Aston Villa manager thread
I would be extremely disappointed if we hadn't been using the last week (at least) to find a new manager, not just starting!
All these rumours of people not being approached just leaves me with the idea that Villa may have approached people but not the ones we want!
Anyway, we have to appoint someone this week to give him the best possible chance of salvaging our season, otherwise he will be starting in a weak position straight away.

I'm still fed up with Kmac putting out the side he did and us now being four clear wins behind the leaders, especially as it's so close at the top. We can't afford to lose matches, meaning the owners must have something in place. If what Kmac said is true about the next manager having representatives in the crowd we have to hope it's all already happening.
Here's an idea - what if Henry was in the crowd and he was representing Martinez and both were coming in?
Yup, just as crazy a suggestion as most of the others, I just don't receive any advertising money for page clicks for starting rumours based purely on my imagination.
I have (possibly misguided!) faith the new owners know what they're doing and have it all under control. They're spunking huge amounts of money up the wall and it can't have escaped their notice that we're a quarter of the season in and it's going to cost them a LOT of money to stay in the Championship another year.

Jim White has just tweeted this on Monday morning morning:-
Its believed @AVFCOfficial will approach @CelticFC for permission to speak to Brendan Rodgers. Ex-Celt and Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov could also have talks. Thierry Henry along with John Terry strongly mentioned.

Don't know why Stan would be mentioned as it is a bit off the wall?

Re: Next Aston Villa manager thread
According to several media outlets, including John Percy, Henry as already had an initial interview, as has Terry, so it's doubtful they've just started the search. But maybe the process isn't as far down the line as we might think, and there are still more names to be interviewed.
I am starting to doubt that the whole Henry and Terry thing will happen, maybe one or the other, but both seems doubtful, if Terry was going to be an assistant somewhere or a coach, I think he'd want to work under a manager with plenty of experience, that he can learn off. If he was coming back here, I think it would be either to carry on playing, as the manager, or to work under someone like Rodgers or Faria.

Also quite a few places linking us with Eddie Howe? Though why he would want to leave Bournemouth who are currently placed 6th in the Premier League I don't know? Madness! But if true that would be a huge statement!

The good news is that we'd be able to refer to them as John Terry Henry.

I am not certain that is true because if he is under contract with the Belgium FA, then Villa would have to approach them before interviewing him and the Belgium FA have not been approached!
