Re: Villa v Brentford match thread
What the actual fuck and to think I was gonna drive up again tonight but had to work. Two 400 mile round trips in 4 days to see late equalisers in both, I'd have driven away from VP and straight to RDMS house, up his front path, smashed through his front door and handbraked the Mondeo right on top of his occasional table. Yep, good job for him I had to work tonight.....

On the radio they said the coaching staff were in the dugout after half time a few minutes before the players. So maybe no message at all.
I wonder if allowing Veretout and Sanchez to go out on loan is going to come back to bite us on the arse. We can't even pack out the midfield once we're ahead because we don't actually have enough capable players.
Too late to see if Stan wants to make a few guest appearances?!

To win teams typically need 26 wins and 10 draws. At the moment we will be lucky to avoid relegation. I know there's still a bit of time to turn things around but the way we keep throwing points away is not going to do the already low confidence much good.
The strange thing is that we play well to put ourselves in a winning position and then totally implode. The players lose courage and get more and more tentative. We've thrown away leads in four of our last five league matches and five times in eight games this season. We've only scored the last goal in a game once and kept two clean sheets. We might not have found our level yet.

The only positive is that we've only lost 2 games so far this season. I get the feeling Ill now be watching other results more closely to see who slips up. We will definitely need to beat the teams in the promotion spots to peg them back.
I only managed to follow this match on my phone by checking the score every minute without any commentary but I knew we'd concede as soon as I saw Gardner came on. I don't know if he was involved in their goal but I just thought the team would be weaker with him in the centre of it. It's a shame because I thought he'd have more of an impact for us by now, being an experienced Championship player.

What did he tell McCormack to do tonght? Float around aimlessly so he can be subbed?
Ayew wasn't in the game at all.
Backs to the wall siting deep and he takes off the player winning all the headers.
RDM is a bottle job. I was really happy when we announed him but he's a mug. Sack him tomorrow and get Bruce in.

That was a very strange thing and the second half performance makes it even stranger. We did not show up at all in the second half. I'd be surprised if there's not something amiss in the dressing room already.

After xias tweet following the last game and boos at end of this I really can't see RDM stating long. I dint care if it's a new team and it needs to gel bollox we have won 1 in 8 all season. That is shit! Our lineup especially forwards is best in league by a mile Inc Newcastle so we shud be winning games end of!

Re: Villa v Brentford match thread
the problem was not that we conceded but that we couldn't follow up the 19th minute goal with another.
perfect start, and our best striker scored it.
with such an early goal we should have dominated and Brentford should have collapsed.
somehow we managed not to score and after half time we apparently didn't come out strong even for 20 minutes.
it was unfortuate McCormack had to go off at half-time with a knock to the knee.
players on the pitch when we conceded included these six: Bacuna, Cissokho, Amavi, Gardner, Westwood, Ayew.
that's the reason we finished weak. not great leaders and very 'meh' defensively.

That's startling Con! Basically way too close to last seasons rubbish team! No wonder they got outclassed by Brentford

Re: Villa v Brentford match thread
I still haven't seen the match, but I'm guessing Gardner sucked ass again. Westwood is fucking shit, but Gardner takes it to a whole new level. The fact that some people claimed he should have been playing in stead of Sanchez, Westwood, Veretout or Gana is bloody hilarious.
If we do anything this January window, it must be replacing Gardner.

Re: Villa v Brentford match thread
It was Fulham who finished 20th. The scary thing? After 7 games they had 8 points...
Edit - Brighton did finish 20th the season before, but started with 7 points from 7 games (2 wins, 1 draw, 4 losses)

Much needed realism and calming from you here jim mate well said and i do agree we need to chill out a bit,
Now just to back up jim dudes point here been taking a peek at the 87/88 season in the old second division and straight away very similar starts to the season only 1 win in the first 7 games and drew a shit load also we had one point less than we do now, wins started to get there mid to late september where our start to the season form read DLLDWLD but you can see from this table back then there is still plenty of time for us!
LWDDDDD is our current form compared to DLLDWLD back in 87/88 i think backs up jim boys call for calm from us.

Brentford are a team that many seem to have underestimated. the form for their last 15 games before last night was 10 wins - 2 draws - 3 loses. they are an established team who have play off hopes of their own.
we have 2 points to assess :
1 we are a completely new team with a new manmager that needs time to gel.
2 the new manager needs to stop repeating bad habbits - if we conceed a late goal on a saturday then we shouldnt on a wednesday - unless its a worldie (and brentfords wasnt)
good thing still 117 points to plat for

For anyone who was at the game, how did Jedinak do? He was brought in to give a bit of a spine to the midfield but in his two games (Bristol City and Brentford), we had our two worst league performances. We were blitzed out of both games after half time and seemed rudderless by the end.

I liked him. A great assist for Kodjia and some lovely passing. Don't think he's got the legs, so whoever is next to him needs to be willing to drive forwards with the ball. He's better lying deep.
