Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
There's a poll on VillaTalk, and a few have actually voted for Neil Warnock to become the next manager.
As for Bacuna we've apparenlty got £2.5m for him and then another £500k in add ons, so £3m in total.
Club are in a difficult position now with regards to transfers, do they let Bruce bring more in, knowing realistically they may have no choice but to sack him in the coming weeks, or do they just get rid now, for which they'll get a lot of stick, and let a new manager bring in a few players before the window closes.

Good point @jimbop. You could argue that Rafa's reputation, plus the adjustment to the league would have influenced the decision. Neither can be applied to Bruce & he's now building a record at the club which doesn't instil great faith.

Well whoopi-do for the barcodes!! I still fail to see the relevance that Rafa's record has to do with Bruce? Or are you suggesting we try and replace Bruce with Rafa? If so then yes please!!!

I don't get this argument at all. WE'RE NOT NEWCASTLE!!. They had Ritchie, Perez, Shelvey and Diame in their midfield and Gayle upfront. How many of our midfield are anywhere near as productive as those lot were? They had goals all throughout the side whilst we can only dream about scoring three goals in a game right now. And btw, Blackburn also lost their first two games and we all know what happened to them.

There really is no comparison between our situation and Newcastle's last season, of course they weren't going to fire Benitez, he hadn't long arrived there, they were lucky that he decided to stick around, and those were his first two games ever as a Championship manager, those loses also came to Huddersfield and Fulham who went on to both have good seasons.

What is he doing on a list of options in the first place? That must be some sort of sarcastic or protest vote? Then again it is VT?

I think they're serious, as he's been mentioned by a few in the actual thread, to be fair it's only two votes, but I guess some people are very reactionary, and so go with the logic that they beat us 3-0, so he must be a good choice.
Puel is an interesting one, not sure if we'd have any chance of getting him, though.

Yes well following Koeman in there was not going to be easy especially with the usual exodus/losing best players. He did well for a first season and was harshly treated but the manager is not as important at some clubs like Southampton where there is an ethos!
Would be happy to try him!

Newcastle lost their first 2 games then thoroughly destroyed Reading. Let's see if Bruce does the same.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing who scored twice against us on Saturday came on a free from Rochdale in the summer, just to put some perspective on our useless signings!

We all know Warnock can gee up players, the lad might not score again for weeks, then again he might turn out to be top scorer, anyway we also all know that if he had come to Villa he would have been crap. We have the playing squad to rip up the league iIMO, if they can't then you have to put it down to bad coaching.

Thats the point though, I can accept free and low wages being crap but £12 million and high wages being crap is a totally different ball game!
But basically I agree with you, the Villa team IS good enough so we all know where the problem lies!

We already have enough slow, ageing midfielders, without adding another one.

Gareth Barry never had pace, I'd also have him back in an instant. Barry over Whelan every day of the week for me, he can actually keep the ball and pick passes. He's a clever player.

Barry may be a better player than Whelan, but we should have thought about that before we signed Whelan, we're not going to sign Barry now.

Shit, if that's true about Barry that's a sickener we probably won't be in for him. That said, I'll be surprised if he doesn't have more than one offer from a prem team. Brighton, maybe?

Whelan and Elmo are next season's dead wood to shift, along with Snodgrass if we're not lucky (sounds like he was good under Bruce but hasn't been since). Lucky Terry is only on a one-year deal, shame if Bruce hangs around too long Baker has already gone and we'll have to buy another left-sided centre back for our third season in the Championship.

As it stands at the moment, I'd be amazed if the executive management sanction any deals that aren't no-brainer, unmissable-opportunity-to-get-rid-of-shite departures.
Bruce absolutely must be on the thinnest of wafer thin ice, so why would Xia et al allow a manager they could, nay, should, be about to ditch spend more money? So, he may want Snodgrass and a bunch of others as well but I don't see him getting anyone at all.
It we do sign anyone anytime soon, it will be a bad sign. It will mean they are sticking by Bruce and are showing faith in him to do what most now see he can't do. At least, that's how it appears, there has been a groundswell of fan opinion against him and if that is the case he's pretty fucked. He'll have to get the team on the kind of run pretty much unprecedented to get opinion turned round and he'll have to do it with displays of dominance week in, week out.

I did say 'Snodgrass if we're not lucky'.
We don't need any new signings, it would be nice to have an experienced left winger but Green can be coached to play better. Oh, no, wait, we do need a new left winger, the problem with young players is they often need to be told what to do, and that's where Bruce's management style falls apart.

Oh, I thought it was Thor. Or was it Amavi. Oh crap, we were meant to sell Taylor, we can't have someone playing on the left in their correct position! 'Hello, is that Marseille?'
