Re: January '17 Transfer Window
First reports was £ 40 k pw. But I think that's gotta be too high. That would be a lot of money on him if we were a PL team.

40k a week? Not far off the mark for a 4 n half year deal. There will be clauses in there should we not get promoted no doubt.Joppe84 wrote:First reports was £ 40 k pw. But I think that's gotta be too high. That would be a lot of money on him if we were a PL team.

If we don't get promoted that sort of wage would not be sustainable!

Re: January '17 Transfer Window
Bit surprised at the amount of people talking about the wages, it doesn't seem that excessive to me in this day and age. He's one of the best midfielders in the division, only Ince has scored more from midfield in recent times.
If we don't get promoted within a certain time frame i.e before the parachute payments run out, there will be a clause in his contract where he has to take a paycut, similar to a 'relegation clause'. Besides we've saved on the transfer fee, so the player gets a cut of that.

I don't know why all the discussion on wages.
We aren't paying it.
The club are.

We are talking about wages because some of us may be concerned about how the club may find themselves even next year with the FFP rules, as it seems very unlikely promotion will be attained this year.

Wyness, Round and Xia have all said that we're going to adhere to FFP rules. I'm sure that they know what they're doing and what's going on at the club, more than fans who are speculating based on figures in the media.

Re: January '17 Transfer Window
I am sure the club can come up with a sponsor deal from a random chinese company that will see us stay within FFP if not then we just need to make sure all our transfer activity is completed prior the league hitting us with a transfer embargo.

Re: January '17 Transfer Window
Gestede, McCormack and Kodjia all scored lots of goals in previous Championship seasons so it's kind of irrelevant how many goals Lansbury scored in the past. What we need are players like Chester and Kodjia, who know what they're doing, are flexible (Chester plays on left or right in central defence, Kodjia on the left or down the middle) and are able to work with the manager, training staff and other players and do well at what they do. That's not to say that Gestede or McCormack aren't any good, they're not being played in the way that makes them work best, but it seems if you want to play for Villa these days you need to be flexible.
I saw Weimann has moved to Wolves on loan. If they play him in the middle as a striker, maybe in a 4-4-2, then I think he'll give them the goals they need. Stick him on the wing and he'll run himself ragged and fuck up because he's not a winger. I'd much rather have him at the club than Gabby, but only if he was played properly.
If Lansbury cost £3million and is on £40k per week that works out at £2,080,000 in wages per year or a total of £12,360,000 over four-and-a-half years. That's not outrageous in the general scheme of things, it's the equivalent of buying someone for £6.5million and paying them £25,000 per week (or buy for £5.3million and pay £30,000 per week).

Apparently Xia is now following Alex Bruce and Hourihane on twitter... And now Hourihane is following Xia.

He was a 1 in 3 striker for Brighton. I suspect Bruce sees him as more of a grafting striker than anyone else we have

I wish we could unload some of the hangers on, and misfits at villa, but no one would put a bid in for our dead beats.
But I am glad to see we are working on the right transfer positions . A few more would be good. UTV

Probably means you won't have to watch Gabby though. Silver linings and all that.
I probably wouldn't sign him though. He just had a horrific knee injury didn't he? Don't think he'd be my first choice. Don't think we need a striker either, but I've covered that.
Would love it if we signed Hourihane though.

Re: January '17 Transfer Window
Im glad we have the Lansbury deal finalised now he is hoping to be an import player for us.
What is the crack with Hourihane ?
He is the player I want us to sign and if he does I really think we can try and push for promotion.

Looking at Lansbury and his wages. I reckon we got him for a good few million less than his true market value due to his contract expiring. 2 million for instance over 4 years is 10 grand a week extra and would be recovered if he holds his value and we sold him

Just a thought could Barnsley be stalling Hourihanes move so they have him for their game against Leeds tomorrow, theres a lot of Yorkshire pride involved there I'm sure.

Speculating is all we can do really because any assessment regarding FFP is based on the last 3 years accounts (on a rolling 3-yr basis) so our FFP assessment (due to be submitted this coming March) is based on the 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016 /17 seasons.
Season 2016/17 will obviously be a projection.
The problem is that we only know the figures for Year One of those 3 years. The 2014/15 accounts showed a £27M loss. I don't believe we've seen the Year 2 figures (Lerner's last year in charge).
Crucially, I don't think we know how much equity Lerner injected into the Club and this is the key to our exposure to FFP sanctions. If anybody has any info on this it would be interesting to hear.
If Lerner put the maximum allowed equity into the Club for his last two seasons in charge (and Dr X does the same this season) then our permitted loss over the 3 seasons should be £83M (£35M + £35M + £13M).
The 35M figure is the max average permitted loss-per-season in the Premier League, with maximum equity injection from the Owner. (So the all-important figure for a club spending 3 years in the PL is no more than a £105M loss)
Worryingly, unless I've misunderstood, the max loss in the EPL, without owner-injection, is £5M; the same as the Championship. It's just that the amount the Owner is allowed to pump-in is increased in the EPL.
So in summary, Dr X is hamstrung by what Lerner & Co did over the previous two seasons. The only good thing is that the EFL can't impose a transfer embargo on us this season, PROVIDED WE HAVEN'T BREACHED EPL RULES ON FFP IN OUR PREVIOUS SEASON (which we won't know until the 2015/16 accounts are published)
We can only hope that Dr Tony did his due diligence properly and fully understood the FFP situation he was walking into, and is cutting his 'FFP Cloth' to suit.
He spent a lot of money in the Summer and placed his faith in RDM. This failed and now, no doubt, Bruce will be telling him that the squad is unbalanced and needs more investment to mount a challenge. I wouldn't be surprised if Xia is telling him to get some players off the wage bill to balance the books.

Hands down the worst midfielder and possibly among the very worst player I've seen for this club. If it wasn't for his Villa academy connection he would have been hounded out ages ago. Pure dogshit footballer.
I would dearly love to know the justification for giving Garder a new contract. Fucking waste of skin.
