Re: Transfer window

Re: Transfer window
Can't believe we signed Bennett because Lerner was too cheap to fork out a few extra millions to get Aaron Cresswell.

Re: Transfer window
So... what striker are we supposed to sign for the championship.
I seriously don't rate any of our senior strikers.
Gestede can probably get a few if we sign wingers and actively playing old school wing football ala MON tried to do.
I'd like to see us sign a quality British forward tbh. Someone that has the age on his side as well.

Re: Transfer window
I want proven goals at that level. Gestede has them but needs crosses put in (Amavi coming back and staying will help with that), but we should go for McCormack

Not sure Gestede has got it. One good season to his name. My mate reckons that Noses at work were laughing when we signed him. The bloke has no movement or energy. He doesn't scare anyone. Apart from us!

Re: Transfer window
How many strikers do we need? Gestede is surely our fifth choice, behind Ayew (if we can keep him) and perhaps Robinson. I'd still rather see a couple of proven strikers come in.

33 goals in 66 appearances for Blackburn at that level
Mate of mine is a Blackburn fan and said we'd signed the better of their duo

Did he play in a 4-4-2 or with 3 up front like he's been played with us? He wins almost all the long balls punted in his general direction, he's often only missing someone to knock them down to.

Re: Transfer window
His strongest game is when he's attacking the ball in the box and he scored two great goals at Anfield earlier in the season. I think you're right, he needs wingers to provide for him. I do worry that he's too static though. But then again I doubt we could tempt Jamie Vardy next season!

Re: Transfer window
Gestede looked a lot more dangerous with Amavi's crosses coming in. He was a big loss at both ends of the pitch.
Amavi at LB with wingers on both sides and 2 strikers up top and I think Gestede will be a lot more potent. 10-15 goals a season IMO (which is what I said he'd get at the start of the season and I stand by it - if we play to his strengths)

Re: Transfer window
Really depends on who goes up from the championship. Should Burnley fail you might want Andre Gray, but I see Burnley going up so rules that out. Depends if we can retain Ayew going into next season, if he stays then I believe we have a very good front player for the championship in him. McCormack is undoubtedly a good shout for a proven championship goal getter, and I would think obtainable from Leeds. Someone I've kept an eye on since he embarrassed us is Nahki Wells, currently at Huddersfield. I think he'd be worth getting as he's at the right age and gets goals. We don't know how good they can be yet, but we have Andre Green and Riccardo Calder already at the club, next season might be the time when they prove their worth. Not forgetting also that we have a certain Mr Grealish that we would hope puts his hand up next season as the good player everyone thought he would be this season.........then there's Traore! If Villa had four front players next season in Gestede, Ayew, McCormack, and Wells then I would be fairly content. That lad at Sheffield Wednesday, Lucas Joao, got a few good reports also and might be an alternative to Wells. Good all round apparently.
I'm more concentrated on who goes out at the moment, it's vital we get shot of the likes of Richards, Lescott, Agbonlahor, Guzan.
We're all a bit angry with most of the players this year but we mustn't throw the baby out with the bath water. We have what I think are/can be very decent players already in the squad and very useful in championship football. Ayew, Traore, Gana, Grealish, Okore, Amavi, Westwood, Veretout. Ok, one or two of those we've not seen maybe enough from yet but give them a second season in the championship and it could be the making of both them and Villa. We undoubtedly require a decent splash of proven championship players and a leader or two, but I believe we have potentially most of the offensive players needed to do well in Championship football. Centre midfield and defence probably require most attention.

Agreed, Amavi was a big loss for us. We also lost Traore just when he looked to be getting to grips with Premiership football. We lost a lot of attacking potential in those two players.

Look on the bright side..........with Richards, Agbonlahor, Lescott, Nzogbia, Guzan, Richardson all moved the wage bill should be around £13m per season lower!
And between them they've contributed next to nothing this season

He's at Fulham and they spent £11M on him. But he wanted out in January. Definitely gettable

Lets hope Fulham get relegated so we can get him on the cheap.

Definitely, I said to my mate the other day I'd hope we could get him as he's quality, I've seen him a few times for Watford and really can't understand why he's not in the Prem with them.
