Re: Rudy Gestede
Anything above and beyond "One Rudy Gestede, there's only one..." would fucking impress me, quite frankly. One thing I really lament from bygone days is the imaginative songs at Villa Park. I obviously exclude the away support from this.

Re: Rudy Gestede
It's great to see a player who actually attacks the ball in the box rather than just standing jumping to knock the ball over the bar. I think there will be lots of defenders having nightmares about facing Rudy at a corner?

So true Del. Nothing has pissed me off more than Westwood's floating crosses and the pure inability of our team to attack the ball.

I love him already. Will be a big asset for us this season I'm sure. Still think TS will be looking to bring in EA on loan, however, it may make him think twice and use the loan spaces to try and lure a winger (Adama) and a RB.

Re: Rudy Gestede
The difference between Gestede and Benteke heading a ball is that CB is often stationary or barely moving when he heads a ball, while RG is moving like an express train. Both win headers, but the attack that you get from RG is going to be far more intimidating and dangerous. Let's hope Nathan Baker doesn't try to copy him, he'll kill himself!

Re: Rudy Gestede
A very simplistic way of looking at it is we've lost Vlaar, Delph and Benteke and replaced them with Richards, Gueye and Gestede. I'm certain Gueye is going to be much more influential in every way than Delph and he could run away with player of the year. Richards I can't comment on yet but I thought the way Gestede interacted with the Villa away contingent yesterday was superb. He scored a thumping header, how much extra power did he get onto that ball?! So from just the first match it looks like we've improved on two players, it just remains to be seen on Richards. Benteke never really looked like he was enjoying himself or engaging with us lot. He's still a cracking footballer but never had any competition at Villa and is quite possibly about to find out what it's like to sit on a bench. I think Gestede has been an excellent signing and will score a lot of goals for us and will cement down a starting place. Once we have Grealish and Gil in the mix I think we'll start seeing the interesting, flukey and downright outrageous goals like the ones in the film someone uploaded the other day of all of Gestede's Blackburn goals.

Richards was in Garth Crooks Team of the week - he can't have done too badly.
I thought he was wobbly at first but got stronger as the game wore on.

Yes, he looked good, but I think it's going to take a few more matches to see if he really works at CB. Gueye and Gestede are playing in their natural positions and I suspect neither will have competition.

Re: Rudy Gestede
I think Benteke always saw us as a stepping stone to CL team however when none of them were interested he left to go to his next stepping stone ala Suarez and Torres. It will be interesting to see whether he does or falls flat on his face. When he plays for Belgium with all their creative players he don't look that special?
I like Rudy from his 20 minute cameo and he seems genuinely excited to be here and we certainly seem to play to his strengths Get him a good partner like Austin and they will not look back.

Re: Rudy Gestede
Gestede looks the polar opposite of Benteke. The beast looked miserable half the time like he was lowering himself to play for us and put in a shift when he felt like it (when he put one in though it WAS good!).
Gestede though looks like he understands that he's getting to do what every lad in England dreams of doing...kicking a football for a living and being adored by fans.
I like him. I like him a lot!

Re: Rudy Gestede
I've not seen a Villa striker attack the ball the way he does since Andy Gray. Early days of course but he's got all the attributes to be a real hero!
