I don't think all fans look at the failings of other clubs. Most fans I've spoken to are quietly optimistic for this season. Last year until the collapse we were comfortably mid table and now we have a stronger sqaud. With a couple more signings this week we will have a very solid squad and I think a mid table club turning a profit will be a lot more appealing to any future owners next summer that is of course unless we have already been sold!!

WTF?! we're two games in and worrying about the opposition picking up points, that is what the Lerner era has done for us. season upon season of relegation scraps. We now expect it. I completely agree with this statement. Despite our poor quality footy last season- we were comfortably mid table... even top10 for most of the season. Obviously our late season slide dropped us down the table to where we finished.

I just do not see this squad having those troubles at all. Our squad is more experienced, deeper, and much stronger defensively than last season. Even if we play unattractive footy again this season (please Lord no!)... I'm very confident that we will finish mid table or higher- and be well clear of the drop zone. A mid table finish and a good cup run would be a great season for Villa this year in my humble opinion.

I agree, and I would go as far as saying that once our results improve I expect the players to calm and start to express themselves. Grielish, Cole, Nzogbia plus any additions we make will cause teams some real problems. Add Benteke back into the mix in a couple of months and we suddenly look a real handful.

The concern is the September/October run of games that look fluxing horrid, not sure any team would be confident going into a run like that. Just hope we take a few points off the big boys like we did last season. Takeover thread. What will happen now. ? - Page 30 1715320296

In all honesty I don't think we will go down, but again I don't think we will be clear of the survival battle, and I don't think this team is good enough for top half. What is mid table ?? My opinion may differ from others I have it as 9/10/11 maybe 12th at a push.
But we need to look at the bigger picture tho, in terms of points and performances, last season 12th down were in a relegation battle

Palace must be planning on being relegated and coming back up if they've hired Colin.
He's a specialist at getting teams into the Premier League. He has no idea once he gets them there though.

Maybe he was the best of a bad bunch interested in the job. It's also probably why Lerner has no plans on sacking Lambert.

I doubt Colin would be the best bet for us however much in limbo we are. Even Lerner wouldn't countenance that.

But then we thought that way before McLeish was appointed so anything is possible.
