Never mind 'remember that' it's more who could forget this!

What a day that was, we were going to take on and beat the world.

I'll never forget that day. I had split up with my first love about six weeks before this but we started talking about getting back together around a week before this game.

It was a smashing performance and I will always remember that commentary too. Great day.

Such a sweet feeling that day. Thanks for the reminder.

We owed them that.

I was on holiday in Majorca for 2 weeks, with this game on the Middle Sunday.

Naturally I flew back for the game and then back to Majorca that evening to finish my holiday!

I was in Las Vegas that weekend and was checking out on the Sunday morning. The game had been on uber early and I hadn't seen either the game or the score. When I got down to reception - wearing a Villa shirt - there were a group of about a half a dozen folks sharing a laugh and a joke about something.

1) They were English

2) They were unmistakably Brummies

3) Three were in Villa colours and one was in a scabby manky looking Small Heath top.

They spotted me and cheered...all except the Nose who had a face as long as E.T.'s phone bill. I asked them how the game ended up and could not believe it when they told me. I punched the air in delight, eliciting a mumbled 'fuck off' from the aforementioned Nose.

The five hour drive back from Vegas to LA that day seemed to simply fly by :)

Bloody hell 6 years ago ,hard to believe its that long ago. Apart from the goals the other two things i will always remember from that game ,Small heath fans pouring out with more than half a hour left and Melberg's salute to the Villa fans

And Merse in the box.

Had my first beer of that day in the Eddy, about half nine. A great day.

I was 21 that day...where did it all go wrong?! That was before the recession really kicked in. That summer was the start of the crap.
