I agree but way out of our league at the moment!

Not necessarily. He's 32 and not featuring at ManU so why not try? If he wanted to play for a big English club we'd stay him every week.

Because inferior PL clubs would be interested as he is still a class act just not as mobile as he used to be.

The very fact that Schweinsteiger is making substitute appearances for Man Utd is an indication in of itself that we'd stand no chance of him coming here. If he was to be made available everyone outside the top six teams in the premier could potentially be interested, and then there would be interest in mainland Europe, US and China.

Hourihane is the one in addition to Lansbury that I'm hoping for. Get Brady in too, then I things would really start to improve for us.

We are in short supply of a few things.
We need to get players in and asap because more games will go and more points will be dropped.
Are we really mid table mediocrity in the championship?????

We need some attacking impetus from midfield. I'd be happy to let Tshibola and Jedinak provide the defensive side of the game until the end of the season.

A lot want to sign Hourihane for his attacking attributes, but for what it's worth I believe he's got some of (if not the best) stats in the division for tackles won, so if we could get someone like him it would kill two birds with one stone.

I'm encouraged to hear Bruce say we have "up to five deals on the go right now"...that suggests several key positions may be strengthened this window.

Right-back= loan
Centre-back= loan
Central midfielder
Attacking midfielder
Winger

Could be the ones!!..and this all depends on departures aswell I guess. If Cissokho goes then we'll need another left-back at least.

"up to 5 deals" sounds encouraging. Whatever happens in the full-back slots or cover for CB, I just hope the deals done mean we never have to look to Gardner and Westwood again and I'm really hoping we've got a creative midfielder who can take over from Grealish who we can sneak into a lab somewhere and pump with horse-steroids.

I'm hoping the lack of news is because we are so busy making things happen. Very little coming out at present.

Lansbury signing is looking iffy and well there's not much else being mentioned.

If it's true it would probably force the new owners to sell him to us now rather than lose out on the cash in the summer.

Is that a negative vote from you then Jimbop? January '17 Transfer Window - Page 20 1787200310

For the record I agree, can't believe that this is the level we are trying to recruit. Can we get some younger, energetic but skilled players in please who are looking to make their name and not just their fortune please?

Surely to McGrath there are better options than Downing, Cleverly, et al.

In the Summer we were told McCormack was not on the target list and then he was signed in 5 days. Was that initially mis-information followed by panic by a lazy manager? So many of the early season signings seemed lazy options/ easy choices - Tish known to Clarke, Adomah a throw away after Adama, Jedinak - an offload but NOT a Dave McKay (for those who remember what he did for Derby all those years ago.)

Surely with the top heavy management team we have in place now there is someone with some vision and knowledge who can source a couple of son-to-be-heros. Then again are we now getting so technical (SB was checked by a data analyst against 9 other options before selection?) that we have forgotten how to use nous and gut feel?

I hope for better but fear for more mercenaries than mercurial talent over 'tried and trusted'.

From a footballing point of view - and that's what it has to be about at the end of the day - I'd be less than thrilled at Downing. What I'm not sure about is (and I can't believe this given the amount of "Captains" we signed) if it is true that there aren't any elder statesmen professionals to shake things up behind the scenes, is Downing that sort?
To be honest whilst he could call on lots of top-flight experience, he never struck me as a motivator of fellow team mates, so from both a footballing standpoint and what he would bring to the dressing room, it's a big "no" from me.
Mind you, he'd be an improvement on Grealish down the left hand side, although that's not difficult at present is it?

There's a sun article by Alan Nixon stating that we're going to bid £4M for James Bree a right-back who plays for Barnsley, he's only 19. But the same story says we're offering Norwich McCormack in exchange for Brady. Which seems improbable to me, being as though Bruce laughed of the suggestion of him going to Wolves.

Bruce actually laughed off the rumour of LOANING McCormack to Wolves. He never actually categorically said McCormack would not be leaving under any circumstances.

Still seems unlikely given McCormack and Agbonlahor are the only two senior strikers available at the moment. Besides Palace are interested as well, so he's perhaps more likely to go there.

That and the possibility that we and Norwich could be play-off rivals.

Getting a bit concerned about this window now. 10 days in and no outfield signings yet. I'd of hoped for a midfielder before wolves because we really can't afford to be slipping up any more if we're realistic in going for playoffs.

Xia's been pretty quiet this time, compared to how much he was tweeting in the summer window.

Although to be fair, since the window opened we've had three weekend days and a bank holiday, and it's only the 9th now. Wish the Lansbury thing would hurry up though, that one seems to have been dragging on for ages. Forest takeover is meant to be complete within 48 hours, so hopefully things speed up.

I suspect Bruce to have instructed Xia that he shouldn't comment on everything. We've needed a football man in this club for ages and I think we got one.

Regarding us being slow this window I can't agree with that. And it's better we spend our time to sign the right players, rather than continue signing a load of shite that prove to be shite - like we did last summer and the summer before that.

I'd be plenty happy with Johnstone, right back, a CM. Play off is a possibility now and if we don't make it we take our time this summer, making the right signings again, and we run the league.
