Should he stay or should he go?
Re: Manager: Roberto's own thread
I understand that but I still would have thought that a brief interview would have been done.4BetLite wrote:Mr_Spadge wrote:Boldfinger wrote:Why have we not had any interviews with RDMT? strange normally when a manager is anounced there is an interview or 2.
Was wondering this as well...
I think its about timing, showing some respect and a lot of sympathy for all those good people that were made redundant last week by not shouting about new big contracts and big future plans is classy from Hollis.
I think it will be like a circus when the doctor comes over to collect the keys and we will hear from the board and RDM then.
Great club, great fans, great future blah blah usual stuff.
I just find it a bit strange - and I'm not suggesting something is wrong - just strange.

Now confirmed:
Asst. Manager: Steve Clarke
First Team Coach: Kevin Bond
GK Coach: Massimo Battara
Fitness Coach: Massimiliano Marchesi
That's a very decent looking set up!
Battara was at Man City till 2013, went to Schalke with RDM and was at Pune City with David Platt until now.

That's certainly a very respectable line-up for any team let alone a Championship side.
Pune City???

Re: Manager: Roberto's own thread
I think that that Massimiliano Marchesi, is pretty well thought of. We've done well to get him from a club like Inter Milan. They themselves have just announced that they've got new Chinese owners.

What I know of the Indian Super League and 20cents will get you a phone call. Seems a big comedown from Man City or do they pay stupid Mid-East type money?

ACF Fiorentina are the parent club of Prune City according to Wikipedia. Also owned by a few others including the Wadhawan group, who seem like a pretty big company.

I actually watched a bit of the Indian Super League. Some decent cash floating around but the set up was designed to push local talent so the football was fucking horrendous

Given the way our scouting network was run last year he is more likely to be the North American scouting if he is based in or watching the Indian super league

Re: Manager: Roberto's own thread
Agree with the back room staff, lots of work ahead of them sorting out the dead wood, if they have checked out the team by looking at past games last season it would not take long in seeing who needs to go.
Just because we have a large budget we do not need to spend it on any hangers on, if we can help it.
I'm sure Clark can sort this so called football team out, mind you they were all good at talking a good game.
Will be interesting to see what happens. UTV

Re: Manager: Roberto's own thread
Yeah I'm very happy with that coaching unit. When you look at their respective records all of them have been at the top level of the game.
Di Matteo= Champions league with Chelsea and Schalke and of course managed in the premiership twice.
Clarke= Been at Liverpool and Chelsea and worked alongside Mourinho and Dalglish. Managed in the championship and premiership like RDM
Bond= Managed in the lower leagues with Bournemouth and was Redknapp's assistant when they got spurs into the champions league and to the quarter-finals.
Battara= Was there at the start of the Man City revolution having been goal-keeper coach under Mancini
Marchesi= Highly rated fitness guy who worked at Inter
So if you notice every single one of them have experience at the HIGHEST level and have worked with players of various quality. This really is an impressive unit for a top four side in the Premiership never mind a championship side.
And to me this shows the ambition the new owners may have in store for us. We had the worst season ever and yet a manager who has worked at champions league level has come in and individuals like Clarke and Bond, who have been managers themselves, are prepared to join him. The two Italian's have been convinced to come here after working at a high level too so it's just brilliant.

Re: Manager: Roberto's own thread
I'm sure I read before that when Battara was at Internazionale they won the title three out of his four seasons there. I'll be interested to see who we bring in now in terms of the scouting network. And whether or not we'll be bringing in a DOF.

He seems to be slipping up already as he is willing to give a chance to all the clowns who have put us in this division. Surely the existing staff have marked his card!

We can get on our soap box as much as we want, I don't want the usual suspects there either, but if they are in the side & play well we will soon forget last season, we are fickle after all.

RDM has never been about going in - ripping up whats there and starting over,. As he himself has said 'i have worked with difficult dressing rooms before and always managed to get them working together' - if you wanted someone to come in and make drastic changes , read the riot act , etc - RDM was never you're man to do that.
Mixed feelings myself RDM has been pragmatic before - so in a way its sensible he does what he knows. My fear from day 1 was that that Gabby, Richards, Bacuna will in the short term tell RDM what he wants to hear - when the going gets tough.....will they revert to type ?

Re: Manager: Roberto's own thread
Just read about Xia asking SAF for manager advice. Wyness confirmed it. Apparantly Ferguson gave his advice and Xia ignored it haha and hired RDM instead.

I read this and despaired. When he recommends McLeish we take the advice - when he recommends Moyes we. Ignore it !....its a wonder we've only been relegated one division.
We must be the best in the businesses at dodging decent managers...

Re: Manager: Roberto's own thread
I'm honestly not sure Moyes would have worked out. I have a feeling his burned out / don't have the desire anymore. Anyway, his performance in his next management job will tell us anyway.
No doubt Moyes is a bigger name than RDM, but I still think RDM has that hunger that Moyes doesn't have anymore.

Interesting...... RDM has only worked for 16 months in the last 5 years. - was that due to lack of offers ? (the noses turned him down) - or is he very fussy about what jobs he takes..

Re: Manager: Roberto's own thread
Moyes ain't all that. He has hardly set the world alight.
There is no guarantee that RDM will be a success but then again nothing is guaranteed in football.

Re: Manager: Roberto's own thread
Correct me if i'm wrong, but do we want a Manager that is capable of bringing a club up from the Championship? Right thats a resounding yes then. RDM has done this.........FACT. Moyes has not done this.........FACT. I know who i would rather have, and i'm chuffed as that we do.
