Re: Norwich v Villa - 28th December, 3pm
We started wonderfully, then pathetic defending cost us a goal and took all the wind out of our sails... We need help... Badly...

Been banging on about this all season. We need 2 up front to allow midfield to support and hold up the ball long enough to create. Rudy on now.

We've got months of this dismal crap to come.
Why can't we just throw in the towel now?

Joppe part of me looks at Soton and I would take their pain if I thought in a couple of years we'd be like they are now. Knowing our club we would just keep going down until we're bust. Christ I really have had all my natural optimism kicked right out of me by Villa over the last few years. What a brutal time to support Villa - I've said it before we are the British Leyland of football. Shit management and a dreadful product.

Started the 1st half brightly, then Clark gave away the ball on a poor clearance and Norwich capitalized against the run of play. We've been shit ever since. Plenty of possession, no end product. We don't look threatening at all. Vintage Villa...

2-0 Norwich... Hutton clumsily gives the ball away, and Norwich counter...
For the record, besides running at players, Adama is shit. He just stands around the halfway line when he doesn't have the ball, doesn't track back, doesn't support Villa players in possession. You can see his teammates yelling at him constantly.
Anyway, we're done for. This was a 6 pointer and Norwich were there for the taking, just like West Ham were over the weekend, but we did everything within our power to ensure we couldn't win.

Spot on. And the worst bit is that I don't even care any more. Lerner has managed to rip out whatever anger I could have about this. We are such a joke of a club I hope we get stuck a few years down there.

Clueless manager. Getting players frustrated because there's no possible way they can score. 1 up front consistently does not work. We'd have had more points under Sherwood as at least he could attack.
He has not got any idea what we need. All the creativity was on the bench and then not used early enough.
Garde out

The team had a good start but they completely stopped to play after the first goal. We could have a penalty and Braddy (?) could be out after nudge on Ayew in first half before the goal...

Can't score, can't defend. We're being set up to not lose, we're not being set up to try to win matches. Neither Gestede nor Ayew (who's out for the next match) work as lone strikers, so what's the point? If you're going to play that we need wingers, but why play Bacuna on the left when he's right footed? Sinclair plays on the left, but is being played on the right?
The formation and team selection are killing us. The manager isn't willing to field the players to make it work, so he's fielding the players to get us through to January without conceding too many points.
Plus sides are (as always) Veretout and Ayew but you could see how fucked off both were today. Our most creative players still seem to be Gil, Grealish and Traore but to a man (with the occasional exception of Gil) can't defend so Garde isn't happy playing them. Today was probably an exception because Norwich were as crap as us at attacking so he probably thought it wouldn't matter.
Surely there's some sort of formation that involves Westwood and Gueye ahead of the defence and then a combination of attacking players including Veretout, Ayew (when he's not picked up enough stupid yellows to get a ban) and Gil or Grealish or whatever? Or a 4-3-3 would even be better, with Veretout, Westwood and Gueye in midfield and Grealish, Ayew and Traore up front where neither Grealish nor Traore have to worry about being shit at defending?
Sure, we'll get new players in next week but the way we're looking we need a couple of defenders (ok, Cissokho is coming back), a defensive midfielder (if Garde insists on playing a 4-1-4-1), a right winger that can defend and a bloody good striker.
We could also do with a proper defence coach and a good attacking coach.
Unless we just start building for the Championship and gift every team we play for the rest of the season three giftwrapped points and a cheery wave. That's what we seem to be doing at the moment.
I bet Kozak can't wait to be out of here!

Veretout and Ayew are the only players on that pictch who were creative.
Adama delivered some crosses but with only Ayew in the box that was never going to work.
Grealish, Gil, Kozak, Gestede must be wondering how on Earth they don't deserve a place in that side. Who's going to play up front on Saturday now he's clearly decided he doesn't fancy Gestede, Gabby, Kozak and Ayew is suspended.
One win in 19 games! Would suggest the system might not be working because they've both played the same one up front. Two up front has a chance though. Ask a Leicester fan.
We don't need pretty. We need effective.

I like Adama but he plays like its one man Wembley, I'd take a punt an play him up front on sat with Gestede.
Whets the worst that could happen!

I would be tempted to play him up front on his own as he doesn't play with teammates and just let him do his own thing, as you say it can't be any worse!

Gestede though - he was supposed to replace Benteke. I was laughing in August and I'm still laughing. What a fucking shite footballer.
