How so? Wasn't Hutton in the back four that got done 4-0 in the cup final? There's a stat going around that Bacuna got the most assists out of all right full-backs in the Premier league last season and he's also played in all the wins under Sherwood. That's probably why Tim is keeping faith with him and rightly so. A lot of people seem to be hung up on the fact that he never started as a right-back but the reality is he's putting in a shift and is starting to grow into that position with every game he plays. And At 23 he can only get better.
Last season he set up the most goals for us (6) and if he does the same this year then there's no doubt we'll have had a good season.

I'd like to think that Bacuna will make that position his own as I like him and his attitude. He can also put a wicked cross in and take a decent set piece. Although I think Veretout will take that over in time.
I would start him ahead of Hutton. But we need a new first choice. I see Crespo as a utility defender to cover all positions.

With Bacuna and Amavi at full-back we've got two lads with pace and an ability to contribute in the oppositions half. Can you imagine the kind of service Bacuna will provide for Gestede? He was whipping in crosses for fun for Tekkers towards the end of last season and those crosses won us games against Spurs and Sunderland...not to mention that absolute wordly pass he done for Cleverely. I hope he gets a long run in the position before we consider bringing in someone new tbh.
He'll have ups and downs like any other defender but i believe with time Bacuna will be massive for this club.

Good posts chaps, there's no doubting his attitude, work rate and offensive abilities but he gets aught too easy at back and gets pulled out of position. Against top class opposition it will show. They need to coach it into him cos without investment I think its our leak. I'd rather see a specialist there and i'd prefer Bacuna in a 3 with Gana and Veretout.

"Pulled out of position"? I hear this but can you point to any games that he's been caught out of position and it's cost us goals? He's also played right-back when we've won games against Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool so I'm not sure that statement is accurate tbh. If he was making glaring errors and being roasted every game then fair enough but i see no evidence of that whatsoever.

Re: Defence Defence Defence!!!
Bacuna is a better all-round RB but I think Hutton is a lot more solid defensively. I think Bacuna will be our starting RB this season with Hutton coming in from time to time

Re: Defence Defence Defence!!!
Hutton actually thinks that he's a winger. If you look at his stats last season I'm sure he supplied 75% plus of our total crosses, and didn't manage to come up with one assist in the league, so he was a total waste of time. He didn't bother to defend as part of a unit at all last season.
Bacuna hasn't learn't to be part of a defensive unit either, but his crosses and supply make him an upgrade on Hutton lmo.
With Amavi being a real attacking asset as a flying left wing back, I think we need an ultra defensive right full back who is only bothered about doing one thing .... DEFENDING! we need a line of three defenders (RB+CB's) working as a unit at all times with a midfield destroyer sitting in front of them and breaking up opposition possession, then the other six players can attack as much as their talent allows.

I believe having two full-backs that can attack can be equally as effective VBG. Everton for example have had Coleman and Baines for several years and those two have been at the heart of them doing so well under Moyes and then Martinez's first season. Yesterday in the first half we were on the back foot for the last 15 minutes of the first half and both stayed back and the defence was fine. Then in the second half they started getting forward a little more and low and behold we started to make chances. As long as Tim tells one of them to stay deeper once the other goes forward it should be fine mate.
The more players we have on the pitch who can actually create a chance the better our prospects will be.

Re: Defence Defence Defence!!!
You make a good point, but our problem over the last few seasons has been leaking silly goals. I think if we can sort that out (to some extent) then we won't need to score so many goals to win matches.AstonThriller wrote:villabromsgrove wrote:Hutton actually thinks that he's a winger. Personally I* wouldn't offer him anything. He wanted out last season and thought he was bigger and better than us, we don't need players like that imo! There's better CB's out there and let's face it, he's a crock and won't suddenly get better. No thanks.
What are the CB's like in France?

There has to be another Jordan down there somewhere
Couldn't agree more re- Vlaar, sicknote who is probably kicking himself everyday that goes by after turning down TS offer. I'm hoping MR proves me wrong and makes it work at CB + classy Okore to come back and Clarke n Baker will be refined by our coaches.
