Where do you think we'll finish?
Re: Where do you think we'll finish?
I've just noticed a depressing stat. If you've got a Barclay's Fantasy League team, have a look at the value of every Villa player.
Our highest placed player in terms of price is Jack Grealish and he's yet to score a goal in the Premier League! I know it's sad but the Villa players values led me to check the other 19 clubs in the PL and you've guessed it .... we are the lowest valued team in the Barclay's Fantasy League!
Sad isn't it.

Depends entirely on whether all the new players gel quickly and hit the ground running. Somewhere between relegated and 8th is my best guess!!
Feeling optimistic today so ....8th!

As it stands with the players who are actually here? I'd still have to go with relegation 18th to 20th. Of course i still hope this will change as the new signings come in....IF they come in which surely they must.

Been optimistic and gone for 9th - 12th and I will be very happy if we achieve that but it won't be an easy season by any stretch of the imagination. Quite honestly, 9th would be the most optimistic finishing position we could possible hope for!

Really struggling to call this. As has been said it largely depends on the calibre of the new signings and how quickly they settle in. I hope for the best but my gut feeling (no doubt influenced by the dross of the last few years) is that once again we will struggle. At least we have a more positive minded manager.

We are still a team at the wrong end of the table imo, but I can see Sherwood's plan. It needs several more pieces of the jigsaw to fit before I revise my opinion that the bookies are about right at the moment.

Re: Where do you think we'll finish?
Lots of potential now, these new signings could be boom or bust. We have lots of pace about us now and an up tempo game might suit.
I went for mid table a few weeks ago, I feel more confident of that now than I did then.

Re: Where do you think we'll finish?
I'm getting ahead of myself, but if Veretout and Adebayor sign I think our skill base and balance will lead to a much more dangerous Villa team.
I still have my reservations about our defence, but we would definitely have enough to become a "surprise package" in the Premier League.
Finishing position? Who knows .... but it has the potential to be far more exciting than I thought it would be!

If we sign Veretout and Adebayor then I think we'll have a chance at 10th

Re: Where do you think we'll finish?
If we can get the free kicks and penalties awarded that we deserve (unlike last season) Veretout is a set piece specialist. Half a dozen goals from set pieces could make a big difference to where we finish.Villa_Dan wrote:If we sign Veretout and Adebayor then I think we'll have a chance at 10th

Re: Where do you think we'll finish?
Genuinely excited about this season...so much so that I am making a rare post! I've had to endure too many horrible seasons from the other side of the world. It might have been more bearable if I could have been at Villa Park each week so I could have moaned with like minded people but until recently I've only had one or two other Villa fans around where I live.
This season is altogether different. New players, a manager who you can understand and has a desire to win and play positively, deadwood players shown the door and a possible takeover (not that I'm too worried about that at the moment).
I can't wait to see how we are going to play and think we will be exciting to watch. And if we are shit....then hey I'm still a Villa and will be till I die! Think we will be comfortable mid table this year, around 10th to 12th.
Come on you Villans!! UTV VTID

It'll be an up and down season and certainly exciting at times. I'll take that over a down and down season that's dull as fuck and unbelievably predictable each week (sideways pass, sideways pass, back to Guzan, hoof to Beneteke, flick on, no one there)

For once I agree with Savage. Only point of contention is I think Leicestwr will go down not Bournemouth.

In light of this weekends result I'm thinking Ranieri might not be the disaster I thought he would...

Yes mate, I had Leics and West Ham to struggle big time and with CECH the signing of the season and for Arsenal to push Chelsea all the way, its only one game but wow this season is gonna be amazing.

Re: Where do you think we'll finish?
I thought Cech would be the signing to take Arsenal from league also-rans out of the fight by March to the team pushing Chelsea and United right until final day.
Not saying it won't end up like that, and I expect them to bounce back and TANK Palace next weekend, but yeah it was a crazy weekend really.

The poll should be re-done after the window has closed.

Re: Where do you think we'll finish?
I will refrain from, and suggest everyone else does as well, from reading too much in to this weekend's result/s.
As last season showed us the points won in the first 4 games were decisive in our survival. Tough opener against Stoke last year followed by a disappointing draw against Newcastle at home and a home win against Hull and an unexpected win against the Scallys was followed by defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea.
A similar tough opener against Bournemouth where we played similarly to the Stoke game is now followed by a tough game at home to Man U where expectations are low but followed by winnable games against Palace and Sunderland.
Friday's game is one the new signings and those new to the Premier League will want to shine and those that played against Bournemouth will have learnt more about what is expected at this level.
We may not get what we want on Friday but I am glad we came through the game unscathed at the weekend and look to the Palace and Sunderland games to put those early season points on the board.
It will be then we can judge and manage our expectations.

Re: Where do you think we'll finish?
Good post SLV and one i agree with wholeheartedly.
It's so very difficult to guess at what lies ahead especially as I think we will see at least another signing or two before the window closes.
With the squad nowhere near up to speed yet and lots of feet finding being done i think the 3 points on Saturday were a huge bonus. I would be delighted if we avoid defeat on Friday against, according to recent studies, the Midlands best supported team Man U (I know bizarre is it not ) A win would be unreal of course but also highly unlikely of course.
I'll be there along with a whole host of people whom i have converted to Villa supporters, my daughter who's 8 and some friends who moved here from abroad years ago along with my Brother in law who's visiting from overseas (although he doesn't know it yet ... )

Some incredible signings flying around the premiership, Rondon, Shaquiri etc.....
I think if we'd been successful in persuading Benteke and Cu#t to stay, we would be relegated for sure this year, ain't it a funny old game eh!

Payet looks the best of the lot to me. I hate to say it, but well done West Ham.4BetLite wrote:Some incredible signings flying around the premiership, Rondon, Shaquiri etc.....

Good point about the Benteke and Delph money, it's made one hell of a difference.

This is the first season the Premier League, as a whole, is flexing its financial muscles. Clubs like West Ham, Stoke, and West Brom are beating traditionally bigger clubs in other leagues around Europe to signings because they now have more money than them. It'll only get crazier next year when the new international TV rights money comes in.
