This will test TS out for sure. Still a good while until the transfer window slams shut. IMO TS looks to have one hell of a job on his hands next season. Need a serious influx of players to keep us mid table........all IMO of course......

Whats everyone else think ?

I think as the squad stands now we are stronger than we were last season. If we do lose Tekkers that's the biggest test for Sherwood IMO

With this squad we should be finishing around 13/14th IMO

It's becoming clear that we're waiting for the Tekkers money to push through the signings. I think mid table is optimistic and once again relegation scrap will be on the cards. I think delph will leave too. It's good we've got rid of the deadwood but we now need a 20 goal a season striker and a goal scoring midfielder. Sinclair could be useful but from TS use and non excitement of signing him he's could be a TS after thought.

I hope I'm wrong but with past track records of Learner and Fox these guys look out of their depth and should probably stick to franchise entertainment sport as this is above their station.

The only strengthining as it stands at this moment is Richards in defence. If Benteke gets injured again after staying - then who will score our goals?

The squad just isn't good enough - so far all time as done is remove the deadwood without replacing it - so instead of being able to rotate the deadwood if they don't perform we are tied down to a starting 11.

There is still time - but so far it's been another underwhelming pre season with some decent links that are just reporters garbage.

I agree. I'm just not panicking yet, it's early July. Yes it's ideal to have everyone in now but not realistic at all.

I may panic yet, all in good time though...  Laughing

Sorry to paste such a lot of info folks but it does give a complete picture up to today. Now I think I'm pretty much an eternal optimist, the power of positive thought and all that, but - and I accept it's early days but so it is for all Prem teams - our intake so far is pretty thin on the ground. If we were currently a consistent mid-table team I'd be more relaxed, but given that we, of all the teams, probably need to show the most improvement, I must say I'm not brimming with confidence at this stage.
I'm sure it will improve, and TS et al need to be given a chance to prove what they can do with a pre-season under their belt, but my God we're thin on the ground.

That's really good info DK. Thanks.

I don't see Micah Richards as strengthening us, purely on the basis that Sherwood and Richards have both made it clear that he's come in as a centre back. He's not as good as Vlaar in that position at the moment so that's a risk. Sinclair is a decent player but he clearly isn't a first team pick by Sherwood, so that doesn't fill me with confidence. Benteke looks likely to leave and take his potential 20 goals a season with him. Delph may also leave and with our failure to sign Cleverly our work rate and Fab's sheer presence is going to leave a big hole.

Sherwood has to be successful in signing his number one targets. Gueye looks a decent prospect, Amavi is a stylish left back, Denis Praet looks to be the playmaker we've been missing (although he's still a young lad) etc.

If the money and wages on offer are sufficient we may well we alright. If we try to be 'sensible' again we could be in the sticky stuff.

I agree, so much depends on landing targets/keeping CB & FD.

I know this should probably be in the summer transfers thread, but I wonder if anyone thinks Glen Johnson on a free is worth a punt?
I want us to sign Celtic's CB Virgil van Dijk, not just for his name, but because he's a hot prospect at £8M Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

He's a big lad and appears to be decent, but I worry that with the Scottish Premier being about the same standard as our lower leagues at the moment, whether a defender who's played at that level and pace for a couple of years could step up and succeed.

Yeah totally get that - I think that's why I see him as a prospect, rather than the finished article.

The most important business Sherwood has done so far is to get the dross off the books who simply weren't good enough that will give him room to manoeuvre and bring in the targets he wants, yes some movement has been going on with other clubs but to bring in Richards on a free is astute business, Gueye who looks to have great potential, Bunn with Premiership experience as a likely backup and far cheaper than Given and obviously Sinclair was already done for 2.5m is a bargain.

Does anyone feel Tonev could be a useful squad player if Sherwood can get the best out of him or are we flogging a dead horse?

As a point of it being a fluid process - Delph is staying, so maybe some people will go a bit higher now!
