Re: Villa Keeper?
Pretty sure we could get £ 4 million if there was a team in need of a keeper. Kicker is that it's kinda hard to sell keepers if someone isn't desperate.
I still can't fathom why we didn't buy Heaton. He would be a first choice at this club for the next ten years. We would get him, and he would add some English to the spine of the team. Key signing for us IMO.

Just as a matter of interest on the goal keeper front, Thomas Sorensen has signed for Melbourne City in the A-League. He did a decent job for us

The A-League has signed some decent has-beens over the last few seasons. I don't mean that in a derogatory way either...I know it's a league where players go to retire and, on that front, we've had some absolutely cracking players.
And Emile Heskey.

Would Guzan go to Burnley? Ideal part exchange for us.

Re: Villa Keeper?
I'm surprised he came out 2nd half. If i was a manager under the kind of pressure Sherwood is under and my 'keeper made that kind of mistake to compound my issues, I'd have not only substituted him but I'd make him sit in the dugout wearing a tshirt with "sugarbag FOR SALE" scrawled across it.

Re: Villa Keeper?
I don't disagree that Guzan is having a terrible run of form and should be replaced. However his howlers are providing a very good excuse for The Timmy Club to hide behind. Yes he was at fault but he only plays one position. We continue with Gestade up front who's only real asset is attacking crosses in the box, but fail to play a style that would give him the ammunition.
Kozak is a much better all round striker and similar in physical stature. Which begs the question, if he wanted a big man upfront, why not play what he's already got? Kozak had a decent preseason afterall.
Anyway I could go on, as we all could, for hours. But my point is, Guzan is providing a rather convenient scapegoat for Sherwood and his media pals at the moment. Will he drop him for Bunn? And if he does and Bunn under performs, will he be another player Timmy didn't want?

It's in Guzan's DNA to make poor decisions and we will continue to pay the price for those while he remains first choice keeper.

Re: Villa Keeper?
You can almost hear the OFF button go click when the ball comes near him. It also seems he has an issue with communication between him and the defence: after one of Chelsea's free kicks, you could see Gestede yelling at the others for coming back when he clearly thought he was going to push out and catch them all offside.
I not going to point the absolute finger of blame at Guzan for that but it goes to illustrate that there's a real disconnect between him and back four.
If he comes out next game then I'm not sure what needs to happen for him to get dropped; his kicking is woeful, his positioning is average and he's odds-on to make a catastrophic fuck up every other game. I'm of the thought that a player keeps his shirt unless he does something to lose it to his understudy. Guzan has given Sherwood more than enough reasons to dump him and give Bunn a go.
And, if I'm honest, what I've seen of Bunn (so far) doesn't thrill me but at least I won't have a mild cardiac episode every time the ball goes near him.

Re: Villa Keeper?
It would have been nice to have Given now as a back-up.
I think there are 2 reasons why Guzan is still here this year, firstly we had zero funds to buy a better keeper and secondly no one wanted to buy Guzan to generate funds for a better keeper.
Guzan is so afraid of making mistakes now that it is making him make more mistakes. He needs dropping as does Lescott.

This sums it up for me - like a couple of seasons ago when we got fucked by corners, every time the bloody ball goes back to Guzan I get a shooting pain in my chest. Whast surprises me is the amount of times the rest of the players still play it back to him, surely they can't be oblivious to his "shortcomings"?

Re: Villa Keeper?
Agreed VT, given that his kicking is so weak, why do we keep
passing back to him? Brainless players? Brainless coaches? Both?

Re: Villa Keeper?
And therein lies the issue: you can teach a player to be better positioned; you can train for shot stopping and coming for the ball; you can practice one on ones; but I don't believe there's a class for fuckwittery. If Guzan's natural instinct under pressure is to have no forethought as to what his options might be if xyz happens and he chooses complete randomness instead then, at this stage in his career, it's time to say hasta lasagna.

Re: Villa Keeper?
The commentators (English ones) commented on how our defence kept passing the ball back to him on his wrong foot. Doesn't excuse him at all, but it's remarkable how professional footballers that make millions can't get simple stuff like this right.

Don't know why you're all getting on Guzans back, he's the top assist leader in the Prem isn't he ?

Re: Villa Keeper?
It is strange how Guzan can't kick a rolling ball. He looks at it with fear on his face before making blunder after blunder. Guzan is another of the old guard who needs getting rid of, along with Gabby.
