Re: Jordan Amavi
Finally got my wifi sorted down in Melbourne!
Just saw the replays of Amavis injury, his lower leg appears to twist to the side which would cause issues with the ligaments and tendons in the knee. Hoping it's only a hyperextended knee ligament rather than a tear or rupture. There is a French website that's updated its news section in the last hour or so but I can't translate it currently, don't know if anyone else has. I think it's from L'equipe.

It basically says that they don't know. They have concluded so far that it's a sprain. But it's unsure whether the damage done to the patella has affected the ligaments. There's a big difference between a torn ligament and a damaged ligament, and the uncertainty of this won't be clearified until a MRI is completed in England.
Best we can hope for is a sprain with some minor bruising to the ligaments, and I think that means a couple of months before he can be back in training.
Worst case is a fractured patella and torn ligaments. Based on experience with my local team, that's easily a season out (or worse, i.e. career threatening injury).
All the best Jordan.

After 4 knee surgeries and currently putting off another I naturally assume the worst with anything to do with that particular joint. Just hoping he'll be back in January rather than August!!

Re: Jordan Amavi
Terrible news. I feel for the lad. Hopefully, it's only a sprain and nothing too serious, but after watching that video, I don't think that is too likely.
As far as our left back situation goes, Garde has another week to drill our defense and see how Richardson, Crespo, Illori, and even N'Zogbia can slot into LB for us. I think whoever ends up starting for us against Everton will end up surprising us, and won't be as bad as we all fear. Even Richardson won't be complete shit after 2 solid weeks of defensive drills by Garde & Co.

Re: Jordan Amavi
Bad for him. Really bad for us.
What was the U21 game anyway? If was a pointless friendly I'll be pissed off hex was allowed to play given our current predicament. But then if you stop him playing for his country you risk having a misery arse player on your hands.
Our shit bucket deepens.

I just hope fingers crossed it's not that serious and he'll be back for the Everton game.

I reckon there's more chance of Randy Lerner playing for us against Everton than Amavi

Re: Jordan Amavi
Really bad blow for a promising young player. We've had more than our fair share of ACL injuries. It will be this time next year before he's ready again if Okore, Delph and Gardner are a guide. It also seems that it takes a further few months to get back to your best.

IMO we should recall Bennett who is a safer bet than Richardson.

I would not be surprised to see Cissokho back. Garde has worked well with him before and he probably trusts him.

Re: Jordan Amavi
Poor kid, he was doing so well too.
A physio colleague of mine reckons elite athletes should expect to be out of action for 12 months at least. If they come back too early the tendons/ligaments won't have altered enough to sustain any repair.
His season and then some is over I'm afraid.
Don't despair Jordan.

Can't see him playing again for us, certainly not in the PL. will take him ages to get back his pace, if ever.
He may be ok in the Championship if we go down.

Re: Jordan Amavi
With Cissokho and Bennett on Villa's books i expect to see one of them recalled. I DO NOT want to see Richardson utilised at LB, we categorically know he is not good enough. Good luck to Jordon with his rehabilitation, another blow for the Villa to withstand.

I'd be happy with Cissokho, I always thought he gave 100%. I still don't trust Bennett, but I never want to see Richardson or Lescott in a Villa shirt again.

Cissokho is dire going forwards but a very solid and capable defender. I'd rather see him there

I can certainly live with that, a left back who concentrates on defending effectively so we don't get targeted for footy rape down the left. He can do what Sanchez did so well against City, stay solid. break it up and make a sensible pass,

Re: Jordan Amavi
I'd prefer Cissokho to Bennett, but I'd be surprised if we could recall any of them.
I think best case scenario will be to buy a solid fullback to compete with Amavi and whoever we have on the right, i.e. a fullback that can play both left and right back. It will give us some depth and keep head above water until next season.

Re: Jordan Amavi
It's a shame for Amavi as I think he's a real talent and this kind of injury is going to put back his development. If I was Remi i'd be tempted to put Clark to left back and give either Lescott or Okore a go alongside Richards in the centre.

Of course I don't KNOW this, it's just an opinion based on many years of observing players who have returned after similar serious knee injuries. Remember Stephen Froggatt?
What are Amavi's strengths? Pace and the ability to put in a decent cross once in a while. Take away the pace and you are left with a very average player. I certainly hope I'm wrong for the lads sake, but it doesn't look good for him, or us.
