Former Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill and ex-claret and blues assistant Roy Keane have been involved in a motorway crash this evening.

Neither were seriously injured when they were hit by another driver on the M50 in Dublin around 6pm on Tuesday, according to news sources.

O’Neill, 63, resigned as manager of Villa in 2010 and is currently the manager of the Republic of Ireland national football team, with Keane as his assistant.

A tweet from the Irish FA read: “The Republic Of Ireland management team were involved in collision on M50 earlier.

“Vehicle was rear ended in traffic. Have returned to hotel & been seen by team Doc.”

There are reports former Manchester United midfielder and Aston Villa deputy Keane was behind the wheel.

Police attended the scene and tweeted: “Dublin Traffic - Delays M50 northbound between J6 Blanchardstown & J5 Finglas following a collision, Gardai at scene.”

A spokesperson said O'Neill and Keane were accompanied by coaches Seamus McDonagh, Steve Guppy and Steve Walford at the time of the accident.

The worst any of the five suffered were minor injuries, the FAI confirmed, with the team doctor able to look after their scrapes.

The accident comes ahead of the Republic's Euro 2016 qualifying match against Scotland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Lanes have since reopened at the scene after it was cleared.
