Can we beat the best that the Championship has to offer?
Re: Aston Villa v Bournemouth .... FA Cup 4th round .... played 24/25th January.
If it's a 4-4-2 diamond I suggest it be the wide version, so we need a couple of wingers in to compliment Gil in the CAM role.

I saw enough promising signs against Liverpool to think that if we put a really attacking team out we will beat Bournemouth.

Bournemouth have scored more goals in Birmingham this season than Villa have , forgone conclusion , Villa win 3-0 !

Re: Aston Villa v Bournemouth .... FA Cup 4th round .... played 24/25th January.
Again this is part of the issue with Benteke, he's often doubled up on because of our lack of threat elsewhere - I do feel like people are ignoring this.villabromsgrove wrote:I thought that one of our problems on Saturday was that for all the good attacking play, the final ball 9 times out of 10 came from Alan Hutton. That made us too predictable and made Benteke too easy to mark.
When Grealish has played, he gets doubled up on.
If Gil carries on skinning defenders, he'll get doubled up on.
So, wouldn't it make sense to try and put all 3 together, plus play Delph in an attacking position, whereby teams can't look at us and go, "that's their only threat" because they'll actually have 3/4 players to worry about?
I wouldn't mind if our 'compact' formation was any good on Saturday. But it was a fucking disgrace of a joke. Liverpool were still knocking the ball out about easily for the first hour. Are you fucking kidding me? With the 4 CM's on the pitch, they shouldn't have been able to fucking breath.
But it wasn't even like that, was it. Cleverley was out wide. Rather than Bacuna, or Grealish, or even Robinson. Hell, Lowton would be more of a threat. The bloke offers nothing other than some tidy short sideways passing and the occasional tackle when he's in the middle, what the hell was he ever going to do out wide?
This is my problem with Paul Lambert. We're far more fixable than he's bloody well making us.

This is the problem I have with Lambert. I read a ridiculous story through newsnow about how going down will do us good because we'll keep the core of the team (Agbonlahor was mentioned) and we'll win everything in the Championship and have something to cheer about. After all Lambert brought Norwich up through two promotions.
What a load of bollocks that is. What we need is someone who can move us forward in the Premier League, not someone likely to take us down a league or two just to try to bring us back up again, and at the moment he's flapping his arms around while we slowly sink.
I'm curious as to who is actually in charge of scouting and buying in players and how much say Lambert actually has in the process. Ah, I see Lambert is trying to put the blame on Lerner, that or Lambert's job isn't secure and Fox or someone else is now in charge: "“If you can do things and it’s not going to put the club in trouble and it’s good for the chairman, then it’s something we’ll try and do, bring one or two more in. The chairman is the one who will dictate what’s going to happen. He’s a really top guy who has put a lot of money into the club and we have to try and battle through it.”
The press has finally woken up to the discontent at Villa Park and if (I'm afraid I'm in the 'when' camp) we lose to Bournemouth it's going to come down on Lambert even harder.

I haven't got my tickets yet, I'm still trying to persuade one of my son's to come with me. The toughest part about going on your own is sitting in the car for an hour after the match stuck in a jam, with no soothing conversation to take away the pain!Villa_Dan wrote:Below 20 000 is a possibility. Having sworn I wouldn't come up to Villa Park again until Lambert was gone I was sorely tempted to come to this match. Sadly/fortunately my wife took the opportunity to get some friends over for the weekend so I have to stay at home. At least I don't get a two and a half hour drive home on my own shouting at everything and swearing I'll not go back up again until Lambert is gone. I don't think I've seen us win at home for three or four years now! I'll just have to listen on the radio while doing more DIY.

Your house must be like a Palace by now Foxy!FoxyAV wrote:Having sworn I wouldn't come up to Villa Park again until Lambert was gone I was sorely tempted to come to this match. You wouldn't believe the amount of money Lambert has saved me and how good the house is looking! I thoroughly enjoyed the Liverpool match for example, got together all my car and house tools plus a load that had been sat around in a big box for ages and cleaned them all up. It's amazing how you don't notice how much rust you're removing from an old pair of pliers or tin snips with wire wool when you have a radio ("Sanchez to Baker, Baker to Okore, Okore back to Baker, Baker to Sanchez, Sanchez to Westwood, Westwood back to Sanchez...") to shout at.
On top of which the other half of the family is from Southampton, a mere 10 miles away. But oh no, no easy life and positive, exciting football for me

I heard that Foxy is building a barn door for our strikers to try and hit. Another season of Paul Lambert and it might even be big enough to give them a chance

I bet it'll be the king of Barn Doors, and if it's positioned close to the corner flag it should get hit regularly.DaveAV1 wrote:I heard that Foxy is building a barn door for our strikers to try and hit. Another season of Paul Lambert and it might even be big enough to give them a chance

I'd rather hit Lambo and a few players with a barn door than the other way around

I liked that protest in Germany or wherever it was where everyone behind the goal was equipped with a large fluorescent arrow to point towards the goal. That would look fantastic if the whole Holte end had them!

I suspect it would grab Lerner's attention better than not going to your seat for eight minutes.
