Re: Fabian Delph
Spurs having an excess of midfielders never stopped them buying further excess before. :)

Interesting he could go in January, if we want to actually get some money for him rather than nothing in the summer.

Re: Fabian Delph
I know we're a shambles and I know those in charge are complete morons, but I can't help but feel a bit pissed off with Delph. We basically made him rich while he was injured. He's been at the club for 6 years now; how much of that time has he been crocked? He talked about 'owing us'. Then all of a sudden he's in the England squad and he wants to go? Maybe it's not that simple, maybe he feels let down that his contract wasn't sorted - there are certainly two sides to this story I'm sure.
But, once again, I find myself talking about there being no good here. The club should have done better, and Delph has turned out to be just another cock footballer. All's shit that ends shit.

Re: Fabian Delph
I feel the same. I think he does owe us.
However, I suspect the comments we're seeing from Vlaar's agent (and I suspect Delph's) of "The ball is in the club's court" is a message to Fox/Lerner saying get rid of Lambert rather than any monetary gesture.
Delph might well be thinking he owes the fans but when he sees more and more of those fans staying away week after week, he may well wonder what it is he's being loyal to?

Re: Fabian Delph
Delph is too good an attacking player to be used as a holding midfielder. If you think back to the L'pool match Delph played just in front of the defence for the first half while Sanchez got round the pitch trying to create. In the second half Lambert reversed their positions and Sanchez sat deep .... when Gil came on as has been said elsewhere, he lit up the midfield and Delph suddenly showed us glimpses of the player he is capable of being. No more defensive roles for Delph, let's free him up to be the best he can be!

Re: Fabian Delph
Delph had to sign a new contract, cannot take the risk of waiting until the end of the season with his injury history.
Still a chance now he could be enticed to stay longer if we give him the captaincy when Vlaar leaves (perhaps in the summer?).
Also, Sanchez has been a great signing for Delph both in calibre and learning opportunity and also in that he could be the man who frees up Delph for a more attacking role.

What ever the reason for Delph's change of mind, I'm just delighted that he's signed a long contract extension.

Re: Fabian Delph
anyone think that Delphs contract could be the reason there is no more signings this window, Lambert was told he could either have the money to sign another unknown, or add it to Delphs existing offer in a last ditch attempt to get him to sign the extension.

Re: Fabian Delph
Delph signing is a defo bonus, i didnt see it coming , there are probably relegation & minimum release clauses in there somewhere , but at the very worst we would get a decent fee for him if we do go down !
The club have been very supportive during Delphs injury problems etc but i am very surprised Delph hasnt left the club, hats off to the lad !

Re: Fabian Delph
Very much so Bill. Clearly he owed us after the way we have supported him but I still really wasn't sure he would stay - many footballers don't give a shit. Look at that *insert a variety of expletive adjectives here* Downing. Delighted that Delph has though!
It fact, you could say I'm Delphighted!
...
No, no you couldn't. No-one should say that. Ever. Sorry. Sorry everyone.

Re: Fabian Delph
Perhaps its the cynic in me but I couldn't help feeling that perhaps he wouldn't pass a medical at any other club, so he might not have had any other option?
Just a thought, but we shall see in relation to his injuries!

Re: Fabian Delph
Thought he was fantastic against Sunderland. He was everywhere, winning the ball, starting attacks, making runs, keeping the play ticking over, and taking shots. The only thing that is letting him down is his shooting. I'm confident he'll figure it out eventually, but after that, he'll be the best midfielder in the England set up.

Re: Fabian Delph
I think the problem we have as a team at the moment is that we are still blowing off the Lambert cobwebs. The players still don't quite seem on the same wavelength at times. And I wonder if that's the reason we aren't seeing a lot of Gil - he's just on a different level???
But once the pass-and-move becomes more comfortable and once the players start getting a better understanding of each other, we'll see players like Delph get better still.
Good times.

Re: Fabian Delph
Delph was awesome against Sunderland, made our midfield tick, always looking for the ball, pity about his shooting which is funny really as that was one of his stronger points.

I've two wishes for Delph.
1) He plays in both England friendlies.
2) He doesn't get injured!

Re: Fabian Delph
Quite honestly I prefer if none of our players were involved in Internationals as it only turns their head and they come back with all sorts of inflated worth!

Re: Fabian Delph
If Villa are going to attract international class players, they have to be able to get selected for international squads. Otherwise they'll continue to go to better teams than us.
Delph playing for England is a plus for our reputation with potential new players.

The first one is a qualifier, not a friendly. Sorry, the pedantry in me comes out on occasion
But yes, please stay fit Fabian!

That shows how little I know (or care) about the international team. I'm only interested if there's a Villa player involved.kimbo wrote:villabromsgrove wrote:I've two wishes for Delph.

Re: Fabian Delph
Ok Delph doesn't start, then he can't pick up an injury. I know its the England squad but I feel we can't pick up any more injuries.
Ok so its selfish but the position we are in I feel we don't need any more setbacks, especially against utd. Utv
