Re: Promotion discussion thread
Cardiff lose, so we're still in with a very long shot of getting second. If we win on Saturday and Cardiff fail to beat Hull, then we'll still be mathematically in the race come the last day of the season.
Just our luck that Fulham and Cardiff could hardly ask for two easier games, whilst we have to play two of the divisions better sides.

It is never a game to take for granted when you play against a team that are already relegated.

Oooh what a surprise, blatant penalty would have put Sunderland 2-0 up and the Ref doesn't give it..What a farce, & people wonder why Fulham have gone unbeaten for a zillion games, they constantly seem to get the rub of the green (or dodgy officials would be more apt maybe) it's happened in several games with them this season... appears the powers that be are intent on getting another London club in the Prem

The officials spoilt that game, no wonder Sunderland were pissed off with things, its been said before the refs are crap in the Championship.

Re: Promotion discussion thread
Fulham win, but surprisingly only 2-1, their goal difference is now better than ours by five goals, but between their last game and our two remaining games, that can quickly turnaround, what would really help us though, is a big victory tomorrow, even winning 3-0 would mean that going into the last day of the season as long we win and they lose we'd be guaranteed to match their goal difference.
Of course we need Hull to get a result against Cardiff tomorrow as well, to take it to the last day of the season, even then it's only a very small glimmer of hope that we have, one small grain of consolation if we miss out, is that it shouldn't affect us too much psychologically going into the play-offs, as finishing second as been a long shot for a while now, whereas with whoever misses out, out of Fulham and Cardiff, will probably feel the disappointment harder, as they were both so close.

Re: Promotion discussion thread
We're hanging in there to stay in contention, but last two games we've dropped four points, and if it wasn't for injury time goals in the last two home games we'd be on five points now rather than eight... I feel as if Saturday has become a must win game, otherwise the gap between ourselves and top two will be in danger of increasing to five points, and some might say that that's nothing with so many games left, and it's a marathon not a sprint, but we kept saying the same all last season, but with Bruce once other teams steal a march on us, it's so hard to catch up, because even when we go on a good run, a bad run to cancel that good run is never far away, and so at best we do just about enough to stay around top six, when with the resources he's had we should be doing so much better.

The target for automatic is simple maths, we need 2pts per game on average, as soon as we fall behind this, the pressure will increase
4 games 8pts, on target just !

I would want 20-22pts on the board after our opening 10 games, minimum. If we have 24pts on the board after 10 games then we’re title contenders.

Well we're someway off that target with only fourteen points in fifteenth place, if we'd have got the twenty points we'd be top of the table now. I'm fed up of worrying about Bruce now, we need desperately to win some games.

We are well off where I think we should be. It’s time for the axe to swing.

Re: Promotion discussion thread
After these next 2 games promotion could be a very distant memory!
With the Boggies finding their feet, Leeds new manager, Middlesborough's toughness under Pulis, Derby improving with Lampard, Brentford playing decent stuff, Sheffield U playing well, Norwich on a run and i can't see Stoke being that poor for much longer. We are well and truly bollox'd!
Blimey if the knuckle draggers start converting their draws to wins they will rise above us!

Re: Promotion discussion thread
If we continue the way we are it won't matter what anyone else is doing. Can't believe that after ten games having played, Bristol City, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham, Blackburn, Sheffield United, Reading, Brentford, Ipswich, Wigan and Hull, a pretty easiy start to the season, our hopes of automatic promotion look to be a write off already.
Only real glimmer of hope is that there are no stand out teams as such, and whilst teams in our position have previously found it difficult to recover, none of them will have had a squad as strong as ours, and if we can bring in a decent manager then we might still have a chance... I think the key is just to stay as close points wise as possible to top two until January, then do whatever we need to do to mount a challenge.

It starts with the next two matches which we definitely can't afford to lose, as it gets much harder after those two!

Comical to even talk of promotion with this team.
Defence is attrocious as are all of the keepers..That right there = not promotion material.

Re: Promotion discussion thread
I look at the table and see we're only two points off the play-offs, and that's having only won one game in ten or whatever it is. If we improve our form, even minimally under a new manager, we'd be right back in contention, I mean if we'd have won just one more of those last ten games, we'd be in the top six now, and just four points from top two, any decent manager would have achieved that at the very least, even with the defence as it is, to say otherwise is just excusing Bruce.

Get rid quickly and we have a chance! Dither and give Potato Head more games and we are looking at this division next season again! We have a near Premier League standard team (apart from the defence) so going up automatically should be a realistic target! We however have a manager with one plan and now it is not working he doesn't know what to do?
Potato Head needs to be a man and resign!

I disagree. Hutton, De Laet and Elmo have played RB in the PL, Taylor was a very good LB in the PL. Chester is good enough and Tuanzebe will be PL quality soon. Sure, they don't look it when played by Bruce but give it time

Re: Promotion discussion thread
Bruce isn't helping the defence and especially the goalkeepers behing them by the way he keeps chopping and changing things. So far this season we've played four players in goal, three players at left-back, five at right-back. There's no way they can develop an understanding with all that going on, it's going to have a detrimental affect.

Rotation is the way of the game now? I heard Pep mention it last week?
However for league games we should have a settled side but unfortunately the Bruceball lotto has not yet spat out the same team twice? Also dropping a keeper for no reason is character building for him!

Re: Promotion discussion thread
This is why Bruce needs time. The team was shredded to pieces when three loanees (two outfield and one goalie) were returned at the end of last season. No one could have predicted this, nor planned for it by actually playing the players we had in a planned way while we were under transfer embargo over the summer and through the pre-season friendlies. No one could have predicted we could play Tuanzebe at CB when we had the obvious choice of a perfectly old DM to put there instead, or even use the likes of Adomah and Green on the wings. None of this could have been predicted, none of this could have been planned for, which is why we're playing one of our strikers on one wing and our number 10 and best player on the left wing.
This is why we need to have different players in different positions every week!
