Colchester United vs Aston Villa match thread
Surely this won't be another Luton, will it?
Think Bruce needs to be smart here and make it a solid side with a few youngsters involved.
My team
............................Steer...........................
............Bree.....Samba...Chester....Taylor...........
...................Jake-Doyle..Hourihane................
............................Onomah...............
..................O'Hare..............Green...............
..............................Hogan.........................
Would also think about playing Oscar Borg instead of Taylor tbh as it looks like Amavi is close to leaving so Taylor may be the only experienced left-back available right now. Thor could also be picked on one of the wings aswell.

Re: Colchester United vs Aston Villa match thread
I'd like to see some of the youngsters, but I think that Bruce will play a very senior side because he'll be desperate for a result and won't want to leave anything to chance.
I'd play him myself but I'd be surprised if Doyle-Hayes even made the bench, Bruce was only saying the other day that he needs to bulk up.
I'd definitely be looking to get Hepburn-Murphy involved he's been scoring since his return from injury, and it will give him a chance to get some experience playing with the first team, which might come very handy as the season goes on.

I'd play youngsters. If the senior side got played off the park their confidence would be fecked and our season as well

It's on Sky so unlikely to be on AVTV.
I'd like to see some reserves players too, especially Audrey and Blackett-Taylor. Who do we have in the reserves as a Grealish-type number 10?

Re: Colchester United vs Aston Villa match thread
I'm seeing a few suggestions that this game might be in danger of being called off, if they get as much rain as is being forecast today.
It won't be AVTV, because they're not allowed to show games that are broadcast on TV.

Re: Colchester United vs Aston Villa match thread
Apparently it's thrashing it down now, and it's predicted to carry on in the same manner all evening and into the night, hopefully it goes ahead, and doesn't get called off mid-game.
My team would be..
Steer
Bree Samba Suliman Taylor
Doyle-Hayes Hourihane
Onoma
Hepburn-Murphy Green
Hogan
I'm sure it will be completely different though.

Looks absolutley swamped on this video, some of the spectator seats are even submerged in rain water, I'd be surprised if it goea ahead...

Pitch inspection at 6.30 apparently. No fucking chance the match goes ahead.

Apparently the ref has said the pitch is 'perfectly playable', but there will be one more inspection at 7pm to make sure.

Jacques Cousteau and Thor Heyerdahl would be my preferred strike partnership upfront if the rain continues.
Maybe Tom hanks and Wilson stranded on the centre spot as well.

Pretty good line-up, looks like it might be 352, as well which should be intersting. Nice to see Rushian, De Laet and Doyle-Hayes on the bench too.

Bjarnasson at left back is a bit of an odd one

Re: Colchester United vs Aston Villa match thread
Wow left back is shocking isn't it?
Anyway this is probably gonna be the team.
......................Steer.......................
.......Bree...Samba...Chester...Thor..............
....Adomah..Onomah..Hourihane..Green....
.........................O'Hare....................
.........................Hogan.........................
Disappointed that Oscar Borg isn't on the bench seeing as he's a young left-back. Hell he could have picked Beadue aswell who is also left-footed. Looking forward to seeing how that midfield goes. Because to me that's a top six championship midfield on form. Want to see O'Hare grab his chance as he could be that missing "number ten" we're looking for if he performs to his potential. Lastly Hogan surely has to nick a goal tonight? Would be nice to see.

Re: Colchester United vs Aston Villa match thread
I think it's going to be something like...
Steer
Bree Samba Chester
Adomah Bjarnasson Hourihane Green
Omomah O'Hare
Hogan
Bruce spoke about playing Green as a wing-back, in pre-season and I think we might see something like that today.

That to me is a great lineup, it actually looks like a team especially with the youths on the bench as well.
Pity I am out tonight so I will have to catch up later.
Pretty impressed with your first post on this thread @AstonThriller not far off at all!

3-0 villa for me.
Hogan onomah Hogan in that order 1- 0 at ht.
Need to find a stream now I know it's on (other than the stream that was running in front of the first row of seats that I saw on the Twitter feed!)

My reasoning is Bruce played 4411 in pre-season. And also spoke about playing Grealish behind the front man. Think he'd be playing with fire playing a system like that but we'll see.

Re: Colchester United vs Aston Villa match thread
If it's too be the line-up I suggested, then Omomah would probably be a bit deeper with O'Hare just behind Hogan. 441 probably more likely though, I guess. Feel a bit sorry for Bjarnasson being asked to play in all these different positions, it's not as if he doesn't have a decent pedigree as an attacking midfielder.
