BEIJING, May 19 (Reuters) - The Chinese magnate who has agreed to buy English football club Aston Villa has said the final purchase price for the club would range between 75 million pounds ($110 million) and more than 100 million pounds, depending on how the club performs next season.

Recon Group chairman Xia Jiantong told Reuters that he will pay at the upper end of the price range if the club immediately returns to the English Premier League next season. A failure to gain promotion could see the purchase price as low as 75 million pounds, he said.

Xia said he will spend between 30 and 40 million pounds on new players for the upcoming season, and will announce a new club manager in the next two to three weeks. Aston Villa, the historic English club that was relegated from the English Premier League this season, was one of eight Premier League clubs that Xia considered for acquisition, he said during an interview in Beijing on Thursday.

Xia also said he was in talks with various soccer teams in Spain and Italy, as well as China and India, for potential acquisitions within three years. ($1 = 0.6839 pounds)

To be fair Carson Yeung himself did promise to make SHA the biggest club in China and spend £40M in his first season.

Justice League posted some comments in a thread from elsewhere - thanks again, mate - but this bit might be pertinent to this thread (we need a conversion to pounds though):

The new owner definitely has a model to follow - the owner of Guangzhou Evergrande (who bought Paulinho from Spurs last year) in China super league, the club I follow in the last 5 years.

He bought the club in 2010 when the club was relegated into 2nd division, with only 5 mil pounds. Then he invested 1bil pounds in the club in the first two seasons. Got promoted and won the super league title in the following year. They he invested 2 bil pounds in the 2nd year - won the asian champions league and played in the world cup against Bayern Munich. till now 5 domestic titles and 2 Asian titles in the last 5 years.

The owner's business got expanded by 10 times and he was even elected as a member of the parliament as a non-party member, which means he got nothing to worry if he does something wrong in business during tenure of current president.

We will see which way we are going with our first signing, it will either be a hardworking British player who will thrive in the Championship or the new board as the Venkys did at Blackburn will have us linked with a marquee signing like Ronaldinho to sell shirts in China

I think Tony has mentioned in his opening statements that he wants hard working, dedicated types on his side and he doesn't "do" laziness. I personally hope that whoever is appointed manager is firstly tasked with shipping out Guzan, Richards, Lescott, Bacuna, and Agbonlahor. With those 5 gone I will instantly become happier. We'll probably even mug some Premiership twat off for £5m-7m for Richards, he's still living off his early years promise. Nzogbia & Richardson are out of contract anyway and so no need to worry about their contracts as they'll be gone, at long last. Tell Ayew and Gana that they are going nowhere for at least another 12months, and then let new manager have the reported £30-40m to obtain the players we need. And let's not get too carried away about the quality required to get out of the championship, Burnley have just won the thing with a lesser team than which they got relegated with. Go get a McCormack type with two or three others and we should piss through the Championship, only really the Geordies to worry about.

Sign of the times I guess, but I'm more interested in who leaves then who we might bring in.......... I've never felt that before, even more amazing when you think we could be on the brink of fantasy football type signings..............

That alone means the likes of Gabby, Lescot, Richards and a few others will be out the door, I'm fairly sure we will see at least 2/3 Chinese in the under 21's next season.

IF Gana plays for us again, just do us a favour and watch his reaction when play breaks down, he doesn't make enough effort to get back, that to me is critical for a CM, I have watched him time & time again "dawdle", does my head in.

I don't really rate Gana either. I suspect he will be good in the Championship, but in general Gana tries to be like Ramires like Chelsea (or a Chinese team now it seems), but Gana totally lacks the physique and toughness. Veretout on the other hand I rate.

Veretout started off extremely well considering he was new to the league but rapidly went off the boil. The whole stink of the place seemed to have affected him more than the others.

Maybe he'd spent all season watching the team he turned down.

WBA have offered him what's he's on at the villa. He's got a 50% drop in wages, then he's got to pay 50% of earnings towards his family maintenance. Essentially if he's stays with us he's going to be taking home 25% of his current wage which would end up being a meagre £100k+ a year. Can't see him changing his lifestyle selling cars and houses to stay at the villa... I don't think that's his only offer either.

How is 25% of his wage only 100k+ per year? Even with high tax rates surely he'd be taking home more than that. Plus what's the 50% family maintenance bit - if it's to do with divorce unless there was some kind of pre- nup would he really have to pay that much. CSA rules are consistent regardless of income aren't they? 50% seems massive but then I don't really know how that all works. I just can't see how any premier or champion player would only end up with 100k + ????

Not too bothered whether Clark stays or goes, however, I doubt he will want to down grade to a club like WBA.

Yeah the maths is wrong there. I don't imagine he was on any less than £20k/week so half of that in the championship and half again in family payments is still £260k. I suppose it the family payments are based on gross earnings then by the time tax comes out he's on struggle street. Lol.
