Re: Villa Keeper?
Really don't see a problem with this, TS showed Guzan his position wasn't a sure thing at the end of last season, and he will ensure he improves. All we have done now is find an equally competent backup, and saved ourselves in the region of £45k p/w.... Seems good business to me!

Re: Villa Keeper?
He's an Andy Marshall type signing, we're short on numbers & he'll no this. Not here to challenge for the 1st team. I still expect to see a clear No 1 keeper come in. There really is nothing to see here in terms of analysing budgets etc.

I don't think that's the case personally, not at all.Joppe84 wrote:I honesty think he's first choice. Tell us a lot about how much money we have though.

I agree with those that think Bunn/Marshall fill the same role. It makes me a bit more confident that Guzan will remain our number one choice. I hope so anyway.

Re: Villa Keeper?
I just think it is funny that once again not one ITK or journo reported that we would be signing Bunn, but here he is!
Just goes to prove 99.9% of what we see on line and in the press is BS!

Re: Villa Keeper?
I like Guzan but he just looked knackered at the end of this last season. Steer looks a good keeper to me too, I don't see an issue at all with Bunn, gives us options.
I always thought our high defence injury rate was down to Lambert's single tactic of sit back while the opposition attacks and letting the back line and goalie soak up all the pressure. I wonder how much action Guzan saw in the last few seasons and how it stacks up against goalies under similar pressure?

Gutted, looks like Guzan will be number 1 again next season as the Keeper search has failed.

Is our budget getting clipped a bit, or are we just unable to land any of our targets? Hopefully the latter.

I like Guzan,
I think the mistake against City, shocking though it was, has been blown out of proportion. He'll be stronger for it in the long run a big big lesson on what happens if you lose your concentration for even a split second.

I'm a fan of Guzan. I know his kicking needs to be improved but I think he's generally a decent keeper. The Utterer wrote:I like Guzan,

I'd largely agree with these posts. I think a better defence AND settled defence in front of hm will help. How many back 4 changes did we have last season? Add that to the fact we were so poor that Guzan saw a LOT of action then on balance I don't think he's so bad. Not a massive priority for us. IF we can get our defenders playing it out from the back, it will negate Guzan's terrible kicking. He looked petrified last season and needed the break out of the team. Had a good summer with the US and hopefully come back better and stronger for it. I'm not too bothered if we don't strengthen here at all. Money needs to be spent on getting to proper fullbacks in, a new striker and another midfielder.

Re: Villa Keeper?
I'm really not sure about him. He can pull off some incredible saves and then get beaten by straightforward shots that Stephen Hawkng would get to. Very inconsistent and his kicking is garbage.
I was, I am, hoping for a new number 1. Which isn't Bunn either.
Hopefully Guzan can find some consistency and he could work on and improve the areas he lacks in. But I would just feel happier with somebody else starting. Begovic would have been ideal but it looks like he wants to have a sit down next season

Re: Villa Keeper?
the goal next season should just be progress up the table... mid table mediocrity. Hopefully top10 and pushing for Europa League.
Guzan is good enough to get us to mid table. With better quality and stability at the back 4 and midfield, Guzan will be easily good enough for midtable/top10 finish.
UTV!

Re: Villa Keeper?
Don't rate Guzan in the slightest and tbh i think the birmingham mail article is speculative to say the least. "Tim Sherwood COULD abandon his search for a new keeper"? REALLY? I don't believe Tim has a short memory like that. Guzan had a decent season a couple of years ago but even that was blown up bigger than what it was imo.
I'm still hopeful that a new keeper will be coming in!!..you don't drop someone in favour of a 39 year old, allegedly bid for Begovich and then wake up one morning and say "oh i think i made a mistake, Guzan is top class"...nah i just don't buy it.

Tony Parkes will hopefully sort his kicking out or he will kick the brown stuff out of him.
In terms of priorities goalkepers aint high on my list.

Love Goose... He never got hate from supporters until his howler and benching after, then he turned into the worst keeper we've ever had. He'll be solid, once again, next season.

Re: Villa Keeper?
OK Guzan made a couple of mistakes over the season, weigh that against the fantastic world class saves to keep us in the premier league, then I would say keep him and sort out the kicking.

No way is a professional football player that bad at actually kicking. Some Indian bookmaker was in his ear, I reckon.

Re: Villa Keeper?
Had another stand out performance last night for the Gold cup with the USA, kicking wasnt bad at all. lol.
But honestly, Ive watched him this whole world cup, and besides Dempsey and Bradley (how did we ever let him go) Guzan is tied for the best player of the tournament.

Re: Villa Keeper?
If we keep Guzan then so be it. He's bar far not the best but he's capable of keeping us in the top half of the league if you look at his stats
