If Sherwood wants to get rid of Guzan and try and replace him on our budget then he's a fool. I hope this is just more drivel from a lying Mail.

I doubt we'd transfer list Guzan without being confident of who his replacement will be.

AstonThriller wrote:Don't rate Guzan in the slightest and tbh i think the birmingham mail article is speculative to say the least. "Tim Sherwood COULD abandon his search for a new keeper"? REALLY? I don't believe Tim has a short memory like that. Guzan had a decent season a couple of years ago but even that was blown up bigger than what it was imo.
I'm still hopeful that a new keeper will be coming in!!..you don't drop someone in favour of a 39 year old, allegedly bid for Begovich and then wake up one morning and say "oh i think i made a mistake, Guzan is top class"...nah i just don't buy it.
I agree! I would like a new keeper over Guzan, come on while we are splashing the cash might as well!

Re: Villa Keeper?
Guzan is a liability when it comes to high balls into the box.
Not impressed with he's dominance of the box.
Forget the kicking IMO this is he's biggest weakness.
If the reports are true snd considering he was benched for Given who also had no future at Villa how can he remain?
He I guess will know precisely TS opinion. I hesitate to again say if true, but this situation reminds me a little of the bomb squad. IMO

I will back TS 100% until he starts proving me wrong, time and time again like Lambert lol.

Its pointless getting rid of Guzan this season, maybe next but we need to focus on other positions this summer.

Re: Villa Keeper?
38 min: Shambolic from Brad Guzan, I’m afraid. The keeper claimed the ball after that Jamaica corner, but was then penalised for holding on to it as he exited the area. So unusual, but it was a Jamaica free-kick right on the edge, and Barnes stepped up and just pinged it. But it wasn’t in the corner by any means: should Guzan have stopped it? Yes, in short. Two bad errors from the goalie. Come back Tim!

Re: Villa Keeper?
I'm confused. People keep talking about Guzans' blunder last night, but both of the goals in that video were very well taken. I can't really see him getting the fault for those.

Agree with the first goal from the throw in, should have stayed on his line. The second as you said was unusual, but the wall just stood still, no one in the wall jumped up which left Guzan in shit street. But did you see the Chelsea V New York
game? Begovic had 4 stuffed into his net by a bunch of kids.

Re: Villa Keeper?
Look likely that Bunn will be starting this weekend. Anyone seen anything to indicate Guzan will be starting?

Seen the name Anders Linergaard mentioned, long time since I seen him, Fergie liked him but never broke through up there. One year contract remaining, could be a bargain there!

Guzan is an international keeper who gets rave reviews when he plays for the USA. That suggests to me that he's a good keeper when he plays behind a well organised defence. Judging him behind our Villa shambles of the last few seasons is a bit unfair .... any keeper would have off days!

I've banged on about this before but the same goes for Vlaar and Clark. Clark and Baker were a disaster playing together (8-0) and while Vlaar and Clark were an improvement, they still started off having to cover for Bacuna and Luna/Bennett, and it really affected our game. Add to that Lambert's defensive tactic of letting the opposition pummel our defence and hope to grab a goal on the counter-attack and we had a knackered defence that made mistakes. Vlaar and Clark looked good together last season because of Hutton and Cissokho being a step up from what came before - the two CBs were able to concentrate on their own job. Vlaar was injury prone but I still think if we have the opportunity to get him back on some kind of limited contract when he's fit again he could be a good player for us. Not starting every week but perhaps if we play three at the back, with Richards on the right and Clark on the left. I still see Okore and Clark as our main CB pairing, which would solve our RB issue.
I digress from the theme of this thread. I also like Guzan, although Bunn demonstrated how to kick accurately, even under pressure he still managed to get the ball to a Villa shirt. Guzan though deserves to play in this new squad and with Bunn waiting in the wings he'll have to up his game, and if it doesn't work out, Bunn looks to be a very good goalie. I really think Guzan was knackered by the end of last season but he was as responsible as Benteke for keeping us in the PL.

Why was that Guzan's fault, again? Amavi tried to go past a player in a bad position and lost possession.

Both very much to blame and in particular both should have booted it at that point in the game its suicide to fuk about like that. It starts with the keeper and amavi compounds the problem

Agreed, Guzan put Amavi in a very difficult position, he is responsible.

Re: Villa Keeper?
Agree. Amavi should never had the ball Guzan should have realised that he was knackered, that he had a player a few meters away, that Palace had just finished an attack so they were still busy getting back and organising and that a draw wasn't the worst result ever so why not just pump it long?
As 4Bet said, suicide.

Re: Villa Keeper?
Agreed it was a kamikaze pass to Amavi but to add to that he should've called to Bacuna so we didn't give the corner away. Hes a great shot stopper but doesn't have a football brain he just a big athletic oaf. A nice guy but not good enough with ball at feet which is now a major part of the game!!
