Then, in hindsight after the trip (ie; the 2nd leg) when we realised just how good they actually were, and we realised what a great result it was, this could've made the cut!!!

These are more to do with the games/results, it's fair to say i've had better days out/trips away with far worse results, if you get my drift

Well worked out post, whiteensign. I think we all know what you mean about good days out. For ourselves, going through a rough spell for most of this season, days like Chelsea on Saturday come along rarely but then stand in your memory for ever. Clubs like Man Utd, who are so pitiful at the moment, are almost coming round with the begging bowl because they aren't used to it and are totally embarrassed by it.

For me the stand out was beating united at Wembley as we were so off form going into the game - tranmere at home was a great one as were many in the championship season and euro campaign- oh how I miss those days

Thanks! I knew about that footage of the derby, I thought the 5-1 against Liverpool in 1976 was being referred to and I believe there was no tv camera there that day?

No, you're right mate. ITV had the choice of that game and Derek Hales's debut for Derby at the Baseball Ground. That ended 0-0 so good choice eh? My own favourite game,or more accurately, the most dramatic game I've experienced was the League Cup semi 2nd leg v Tranmere

When we smashed the noses 5-1 what a day that was.

I remember that day, the world looked very good and the future was bright indeed.

I don't think I was the only one working out how many goals they'd need per minute to get a draw and embarrass us. Never trusted Villa to close out a game since that Spurs catastrophe.

Or the Leicester 4-4, before we had Mark Draper off them.

For me it has to be Ipswich away, last time we were relegated.
It was the first game of the season, boiling hot, a journey from hell on a minibus and i got punched in the face, twice, by somebody on a tractor.
Infact, the whole season was an experience. Hull city away being another mad day. What hovels football grounds were then, Hull being one of the worst.
I thought we were outside a Homebase. Infact it was the away end.

The last away game I went to was when we hammered Derby, I was with my son and it was just a brilliant day.

So do I - I flew home halfway through my holiday in Majorca to go to the game, flying back afterwards meaning I missed meeting the General

It was a great day indeed, that 5th goal cost me about £850.  I had an accumulator bet and it all hinged on us winning 4-1.

I was there that day it ranks up there with my favourite sporting moments. (good idea for a thread)

Villa beating Leeds 3-0 in 1996? - I was there first game and until recently I always thought Ian Taylor opened the scoring but it was in fact Yorke....

That Boothferry Park was a rough old ground. I went there in about 1972 on The Special. It let us out at Boothferry Park Halt, which was right by the ground. We were all in the big terrace on the side and fighting continued throughout the game. After the match we had to make our own way back to Hull Paragon to pick up The Special. The Villa mob had split up and we had a grim time on board that train. On arrival at Paragon the tables turned and Villa legged them all over the place. Been to that ground a few times and I remember that new stand that you referred to. It was at a friendly there that a load of pissed up Villa fans off a coach had to push a Police car to get it started again.
