Against premiership opposition that was a decent 1st half. Lost the impetus we had once Grealish went off but Elmo and Whelan have really stood out

It's clear Gabby's hold up play is beneficial for us. We look worse off when he went off.

Since watford made their changes we've looked second best. First half amrabat was their only player. We should have been in front a couple of times.

We lost a bit of impetus when Grealish was brought off, but overall, I'd say we've improved as pre-season as gone on, and at times in the first half passed the ball better than we're used to seeing, just lacked a bit of cutting edge in the final third.

I think we can safely say that we are not going to be entertained down at Villa Park this season, purely functional!

Pity didn't see Gabby and Hogan playing together as Lansbury looked absolutely awful in the role that Grealish was playing in. Waste of time playing Hogan if we are bypassing midfield and just lumping the ball up to him as it is utterly pointless. Still can't see where the goals are going to come from when Kodjia isn't playing?

They both played last night for the u23s, O'Hare scored and set one up, I didn't see the game, but someone streamed it on twitter, and O'Hare was getting a lot of praise, If Grealish is injured for next week, I'd have O'hare in the squad, he looked miles better last week playing behind the striker than Lansbury did today.

As for Doyle-Hayes, I though he looked excellent, the kind of youngster you might have expected Southampton to have produced in recent years, I thought he was left footed at first, and then he suddenly started using his right with equal ability.

Really hope some of our youngsters can make a mark this season.

Been banging on about Grealish behind a lone striker, I though he looked great. I was actually shocked at how well Gabby played, he actually deserved a goal (was the one he scored offside?).

I was very impressed with Whelan, he is like dogshit, gets everywhere, he played a couple of long range accurate passes too, but somethings never change, Bacuna is shite.
