De Laet can and has played LB. He could easily be used as cover for both sides

There is no date for his return yet, Bruce has said that he is nowhere near ready to return to first team action.
You wonder if he will ever return as the player he once was?

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
I know he played today, but his performance outlined why I really think we need to move Hutton on; he works hard, but is so laboured in possesion, more often than not he gives the ball away.
Hope the Wednesday rumours have some truth to them, although it's obviously not as close as Nixon seemed to think.

If it was that close he wouldn't have gone to Germany and I don't think that Hutton is in any rush to leave being in his last year of his contract.

One thing we and SB made the agreement is to trim the squad to 19-20 and pick 5-6 youngsters to train with the 1st squad this season.
I like the sound of that, but we've got a lot players to sell before we reach that target.
Tough challenge if that's to be this season. The youngsters that would seem to be pushing for 1st team squad would be Green, Davis, RHM, Suliman, and perhaps Borg. There'd have to be one hell of a sales avalanche to trim down the existing 1st team squad! We'd be looking at shifting the likes of Richards, Elphick, De Laet or Hutton or both, Amavi, Cissokho, Tshibola, Veretout, Gardner, Agbonlahor or McCormack, Bacuna or Lyden..........a lot of players to get to the numbers suggested by the Doc. I can't see Richards going anywhere, not even if we try giving him away, he'd need paying up big time to get him out the door.
GABBY IS GOING NOWHERE!! WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP MENTIONING HIM GOING, ITS OBVIOUS HES GOING NOWHERE

I think we should keep him. Two goals in a year makes him our third best striker!

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Being linked to Ojo from Liverpool, can't say I've seen much of him, bt think he's a winger, was linked to Fulham recently for £10m so won't come cheap.
Also (for what it's worth) Nixon has apparently said that the deal for McCormack to Sunderland will be for big money.

Did they play him alongside a defensive midfielder, tell him to pay more attention to defending than attacking and then expect him to score goals? Probably not (although I don't know, maybe they did!).
You could ask the same question about any of our players bought from Championship clubs and with the exception of Kodjia none of them has come close to being the player they were at their former clubs. Grealish, Gardner and Baker don't count. I really like Baker and Grealish, I think Terry's appointment is harsh on the former and hope Bruce has a brainwave and realises Grealish is one of those mythical players who isn't a striker or someone to play in a nine-man defence. Gardner I just don't know about and I suppose he's had enough time without any real impact to make a case for himself. I'd be sad to see him go, he's a Villa fan and has just had bad luck with injuries stifling his career. Still, him or Lansbury or Hourihane? Easy decision, unfortunately.

I just can't see it. Sunderland are skint and McCormacks wages are huge.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Blunderland won't pay over £4M for him, that's a 66% loss, based on this deal I'd rather keep him than strengthen a promotion rival.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
I think if we got £ 4 million for a 30 year old on a reported £ 45 k p/w, then I think we should snap their bloody hands off.
We've spent a lot of money in this league so far. Possibly too much compared to what we've gotten out of it. Time to recoup some as well. Don't think we're excluded from the FFP, so I hope our owner is clued up.

He is a proven goal scorer at this level (if his head is right) and there may be a time when we could really need him but saying that I think I would accept £6m for him.
A couple of the young lads coming through could be very good and surprise a few people.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Just to point at those wages again. 45 k is probably around 2,5 million a year. Easily 2 million more than most clubs will afford in this division. I wouldn't dismiss £ 4 million tbh.

And tbh wtf was gate gate all about. !!!!
Locks himself in because his Mrs fucks off.
I'd throw a party and get the dirtiest bitches in.
I just have a feeling he may still have the ability we need.

Simon Jones (I think he's a daily mail journalist) reporting that we've open talks with Sunderland over a season year loan.
Probably a load of rubbish, but we shall see.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Any loan would only make sense if they take on 100% of the wages, and even then it's rather stupid as we know Sunderland have parachute payments. Just say £ 4-5 mill or bugger off.

Photos of Veretout on twitter having his Fiorentina medical and in one of their tops; hopefully we get a good wack of dough for him.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Cannot agree with McCormack going on loan to one of our promotion rivals that doesn't make any sense to me especially as Sunderland have their parachute payments as well as getting good money for a couple of their players. No they have to buy him, I would probably accept 6m as well to cut our losses.
I still think McCormack is a good player, he just needs to sort himself out and guaranteed if he leaves us for Sunderland (or anyone in our league) he will score against us!

That is a good price especially as it is all up front.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Shame about Veretout. I liked him and there's a definite player there.
McCognac cannot go on loan to our rivals. That's beyond fucking stupid. Sell him to them for a good chunk of change or not at all.

Would St Etiene like GG or Bacuna instead?
