Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
I can't see how we need a right-back, Bree and De Laet should be plenty good enough, everytime a player gets a spell out you can't really be buying a replacement when said player is fit again, just in case he isn't the same player, especially with FFP to think about; we've also still got Hutton, Richards, and Bacuna.
And even we did need a right-back, there would be better players we could go for.
He isn't a very productive winger either as his stats show, so again if we need a right-winger there would be better options, we had one of the most toothless attacks last season, surely buying a player who's played the last few seasons as a defender isn't the most logical way of helping with that.
Because he's one of Bruce's favourites he'll probably be in the team every week as well. I had a look on a Hull forum to see if they might have a positive view of him, and most seemed to be over the moon that he's leaving.
Seems like the club are obsessed with signing players for things other than their footballing ability, last year it was 'captains' and players who'd previously wont promotion, this year it's 'characters' and 'real men'

I'd agree with that Deadbuzz. I'd like to add youth players to the squad discussion. Like you say we have Hutton, Bacuna, Richards behind De Laet and Bree. If all that fails surely we can rely on a RB youth for a match of two? If that's not the case it begs the question why we keep having an academy.
Personally I think youths should always be third option in a squad rotation. Keepers as an example I think Johnstone, Bunn, Steer is overkill. Johnstone, Bunn/Steer and Sarkic as backup is more than enough.

I'd definitely like to see more of our home grown players given a chance to make an impression next season. Green, Davis, Hepburn-Murphy, and possibly Abdo, could all potentially do a job for us, Suliman, Bedeau, Mitchell Clark, on the defensive side of things too.

Johnstone was at the Telford game last night so that one is done.
So do we need many other players?

A couple more ex-Premier League, mid-30s defensive midfielders and defenders and Bruce will have everything he needs.

That statement is worryingly close to the truth??
Maybe the Amavi delay will delay some of the SB targets and Burnley goes and buys them?

All seems very quiet at the moment, doesn't it? Too many players on the payroll currently to be bringing in any more it would seem, unfortunately.
Very frustrating that the players seemingly likely to go are of the ilk of Amavi and Veretout rather than of the ilk of Gabby and Richards.

don't see the point of Gabby being constantly mentioned to leave, hes staying, end of, so lets back him.

No, I'll keep referring to players I would like to see staying or leaving when talking about players I'd like to be staying or leaving. Thanks for the suggestion all the same.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
I must admit that I remain concerned by the club not even being linked with attacking talent during this window. We had one of the best defences in the league last year and it was goals that really cost us. So why aren't we investing in some attackers? Is Bruce really so naive that he think the current lot is enough? Does he really think that Green, Grealish and Adomah are gonna hit double figures and create the same amount? They might do, but I have my doubts.

I'm kind of glad we re-signed Johnstone, I think he was getting better and better last season, and a little continuity is going to help us improve. We had a good defence last season and with the addition of Terry, De Laet (you know what I mean!) and hopefully Samba, I think we're going to be incredibly strong even if players get injured.

I think it's ace he's resigned, if he has in fact resigned. Continuity is important and especially between defenders and their keeper.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Elmohamady is probably the most attacking player we'll sign this window, Bruce is even talking about using Green as a full-back in a 532 now.

When I think of wing backs I think of a 3-5-2 (with Hogan and McCormack up front) or 3-5-1-1 (with Grealish behind Kodjia). It's an attacking formation, we can stick Jedi ahead of the defence with Samba in the middle, Chester to the right and Terry to the left. Jedi can hang back and we pretty much have four at the back anyway. It makes it much more of an attacking side, with room for two attacking midfielders in Lansbury and either Veretout or Hourihane. With Jedi at the back, Grealish up front and two of Hourihane/Lansbury/Veretout in the middle we'll have a nice diamond, with Green or Amavi on the left and probably Hutton (I hope I'm joking) on the right. Hogan's happy to drop deep and he and McCormack would be just as effective.
What we may well end up with though is a 5-3-2, with a much more defensive set up, and the two players up front stranded with everyone else on defensive duties. We're going to have the best defence in the league, it would be nice if they were left to do their thing and the rest of the team could go about trying to score goals.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Ultimately I don't care who he signs. We might find them boring, but in the end he will be judged on whether he gets us promoted. If signing players that sound defensive and boring is what it takes, so be it.

Surely more attacking players will be on the way?

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Well if we sign Elmohamady and Whelan, terms of transfer fees that will only be about £5m, on top of the loan for Johnstone and the free transfer for Terry.
I keep remembering that Wyness said we'd probably be the biggest spenders in the championship and that we were going to go for some exciting youngsters (as well as 'real men'). Which gives me a bit of hope that we might still have some targets further up the field that haven't been mentioned in the press yet.
but then again maybe Wyness thought we'd be able to sell our unwanted players easier.I think Bruce mentioned us wanting to get rid of about ten players, easier said than done, when they're players not wanted even by a club who finished in the bottom half of the championship.
Maybe we'll go for a few loans.

Hi guys having just watched the game today is it just me or does our team lack any quality creative players at all. The second half team I would imagine are the players we are trying to ship out of the club, all in all not very promising from an attacking point

I honestly doubt it will matter who we sign whilst Bruce is in charge. he'll be gone around October time, and how get on for the rest of the season will depend one who Wyness and Round replace him with.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Weakness at both ends of the pitch cost us last season - and we don't seem to have addressed either. We still seem to think Scott Hogan will score goals and Sam Johnstone will stop goals. I disagree on both fronts.
The re signing of Johnstone is a diabolical and baffling decision - Shrewsbury had 2 shots on target today and they both went in.
