January signings
Recently someone asked why we don't have a thread for each player. I think that's a level of detail that might not get used by posters, good idea though it was. So I thought maybe a thread for all the new boys where we can post on thoughts and progress.
When I've got time I'll put some background in each, but for now I've created this thread as a placeholder for future discussion.
If anyone else wants to put background details/player profiles then go for it

Re: January signings
Remember people getting excited in the previous two summer windows and look what happened. Think it's best to just see how they do first. But on paper looks like we've done excellent business.

Re: January signings
Even if we don't get promotion this year, these additions will push us forward, another good window in the summer either for the premiership or another push for promotion will make us even better. A lot better feel to things instead of last January's capitulation, long may it continue.

I think this is the first window in a while where I can see the logic and thought behind each signing? It's not the money ball method of the Sherwood summer or the throw money at clubs method of RDM? There has been a plan I think the sale of a rather one dimensional forward to pay for 3 dynamic midfielders is a master stroke. Plus some of these signings could be of Premier League quality which is an added bonus! I look at the team with the new signings and think the opposition will be worried!

Can this transfer window get any better?
Watch this space because we are not finished just yet.

Re: January signings
every recent window was awesome but just didn't work out, hoping the Bruce/Round influence pays better dividends this time around.
also hope we can get rid of a few losers.

Significant fee and sell on clause as part of Houlirane deal according to SSN.

Re: January signings
I should imagine that Dr Xia has parted with a significant amount of money outside of the transfer fee - he is obviously extremely keen for promotion at first try, otherwise why not wait for the Summer & save money (after all, we're used to those excuses from the last couple of owners).

Re: January signings
In all honesty lads haven't we had quite a few "exciting" windows of late? Though it turned out to be an epic disaster I can remember the buzz I had when the likes of Ayew, Gana, Adama, Vertout, Gestede, Lescott etc walked through the door. Then we had this summer just gone and it was much the same. MCCormack, Jedinak, De laet, Tshibola, Adomah, Chester, Gollini etc!!..just a thrill a minute.
This one has been epic too but one only hopes they actually do "what it says on the tin" and don't turn into rubbish like so many have before them.

Re: January signings
One advantage of being almost"overstaffed" in midfielders is the ability to play the high speed pressing game when not in possession. If you have someone like Richards on the bench covering both full back and centre half, you can have up to three midfielders available to come on to replace the knackered starters. In that way you could maintain the press for 90 minutes instead of "dying" late on as we have been. Imagine bringing on a fresh midfield just when the opposition are on their last legs.

ah but our midfield pre January window was pretty shocking, and to play a pressing game ? lets look at the possible substitutes, Grealish and Ayew are too lazy and can't/won't tackle, Baccuna and Gardener will give you the effort but do they have the necessary quality ? Tishibola maybe, but Westwood......haha don't get me started.
