One or two good set piece deliveries (one or two more than Westwood BTW) but seemed to lack something, I've read he may be leaving on loan back to France, we should be looking for a permanent deal, move him on.
Disagree - if we can keep him on the books we should. I'll forgive him for having an indifferent season because I think it was mission impossible for him. By the time he was in the starting line-up we were already fighting fire & with Remi quickly feeling shafted, he hardly had an inspiring manager.

I think Veretout and Ayew are exactly the kind of players RDM would be looking for right now if they didn't already play for us. They have to be given another season and if it doesn't work, I suspect we won't lose any money on either of them.

Rumors of us being in negotiations with Sunderland over Liam Bridcutt. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, unless Veretout, Gana, & Sanchez are all off, leaving us with Tshibola, Westwood, & Gardner...

Bridcutt would do for me another solid if unspectacular signing. but IMO thats whats needed at this level.

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
Xia will look a right sugarbag if Ayew does a Delph now. Let's hope Xia is In The Know, eh? :)
But I can't help but think that announcements like these either shouldn't be made (we'll know he's staying when the window closes) or they should come from the Official Site once everything is nailed-on confirmed.
I love that he's the total opposite of Lerner and that he seems to be having fun owning us but sooner or later these public statements via social media are going to bite him right the arse. The Savile retweet was one thing but if he gets ahead of himself regarding things about players he could piss off the fans and the manager.
Having said that, keeping Ayew will be a huge step for us. I felt for sure he'd be out the door.

Guardian coverage today quotes RDM as saying Villa were a house that needed to be knocked down, and also that he's not finished in the market (although isn't specific about numbers).

I'm not sure. I haven't seen a ton of Bridgecutt, but it would surprise me if he was a better option than Gary Gardner

I really wouldn't place to much stall by that. I think the reality is who bids, how much, and if Ayew wants to go.
Top half prem clubs bids over £15m - and he wants to go - I think he will.

Things need to start happening. As it stands we're not much improved, from last season. With the three new signings we're relying a lot on their potential rather than proven quality. With the takeover happening, I thought their would be more going on at the club, a bit more of an excitement factor.

Am also seeing/hearing Richards to Sunderland as they are going to activate his clause.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him back in the Premier League in the next 3 years performing to a much higher standard

While I agree with you, I think there's a lot of decent footballers in the squad. It's the chemistry, the team-bit, the mentality etc. that's all wrong.
If we moved Richards, Lescott, Bacuna, Guzan on and didn't sign anyone else, I still think we will be fighting for promotion. Hopefully we will make signings that will make us even better, but it's not like Hutton, Okore, Westwood, Grealish, Gil, Gabby, Gana, Ayew ++ and all our academy graduates suddenly are non-league players. They hold some quality. We just have to find the right mix and get the spirit into them.
The simple fact that Aston Villa Academy graduates that don't even get a single senior cap, go on to be very solid players in the championship says a lot about the difference in quality. I bet Ayew will look like feckin Jean-Pierre Papin down here

Elphick is very much proven championship quality.

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
Ok many and various things went wrong last season. But I believe that a hard core of disruptive behaviours from Gabby, Lescot, Bucuna and Richards had a lot to do with the physiological balance of the team. If we get the mentality right and the fitness levels where they should be then I believe that we have a chance of playoff at least. RDM seem to have an handle on things at the moment but need to stamp out all bad and disruptive behaviour before it spreads as it did last year. VTID

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
Was Richards disruptive or just shit? I thought he tried, but was completely rubbish. Unless there was some contractual reason for him playing in central defence, surely it was the managers' responsibility for playing him and Lescott together in the middle, rather than Okore and Clark (who played well - albeit not perfectly - together at the end of the previous season)? I'd go as far as to say Okore and Clark will make a good central defensive pair in the Championship, especially with Hutton and Amavi at full back.

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
I know I've watched a lot of shit television shows lately, but you reckon we could get a reverse bundle deal going. They want Richards for X. We give them Bacuna, Guzan, Richards and Lescott for X. Take it or leave it.

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
No wonder he wasn't getting games in Italy, Richards looked ok at the beginning to be fair, I think we all realised early on last season was going to be an almighty struggle, the players must of realised that too.
I think the mentality of the players was very weak, as soon as we went 0-1 down, we all knew it was game over.
Richards was obviously the wrong choice as our captain & Garde was obviously the wrong choice of manager, we are all wise in hindsight though.
We need to hit the ground running this season, confidence & momentum are vital.
There is still a lot wrong with the balance in our squad, lots of work still to be done.

Re: 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation
With Richards it was another case of "He's a supposed Villa Fan" "We better sign him" "He will defo play for the shirt" "He's one of us"
What a load of utter bollocks, the last "Villa Fan" who gave his heart and soul for the shirt and club was Ian Taylor, and still does to this day.

I know Richards was born locally, don't think I have ever read he was a Villa fan though?
