Managers, who would we want?
So, it would appear from the Lambert thread most of us have switched off this manager and what has been attempted under his stewardship.
This, however, begs the question, who could we possibly get to take us forward? I have very little faith in the board to get a managerial appointment right. Their last few efforts have been disappointing (even though I admit most of us wanted Lambert, but you catch my drift re Houllier, McClaren, Martinez and McLeish).
So who could we get or who would we want?
Was just thinking, if Fulham dropped (highly likely), would McGath be worth a shout? New ideas, experienced, proven winner but, crucially, not one of the usual suspects on the merry-go-around waiting for the next pay day.
Thoughts?

Re: Managers, who would we want?
Magath seems to be an interesting figure: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2012/oct/08/bundesliga-felix-magath-wolfsburg
Is tthere any Premier League or Premier League experienced manager we could get who there isn't some big question mark over?
That suggests to me that we will need to look to a foreign manager or even somebody new to management. Take a gamble over, in other words.

I don't think Moyes would be right for us now. He will need some time out of the game I reckon so that he would come back refreshed having put United (and Everton) out of his system.
What about Biesla? Would he be too crazy for us?

Bielsa is a good shout for me. Where is he these days?
I can't help but think Moyes will be damaged by the United job. Not just his reputation, but his confidence in his own ability.

Whoever took over from Fergie would have struggled with that team, they are so shit they only scored 4 against us. :)Billy McBingo wrote:Holtender1982 wrote:If Moyes got the bullet, anyone fancy him having a go?

Re: Managers, who would we want?
Koeman for me - he would take the job too, yes there are better but I doubt they would come here.
Magath or moyes ? Both far better than lambert , that's for sure.

I think Biesla is out of work.
I always hoped we would get Rafa Benitez one day but I think that ship has sailed...not because our ambitions have changed you understand...

Doubt either randy or faulkner have ever heard of Bielsa.

His contract ends in may and he's expressed a desire to manage in the premiership , even contacted Swansea about their job so I'm sure villa would interest him.

Re: Managers, who would we want?
This is what he said after mon left -
Ronald Koeman today reiterated his desire to manage Villa and claimed his agent has already been contacted by the club with a view to succeeding Martin O'Neill.
Koeman, without a job after leaving AZ Alkmaar, has a wealth of experience having also managed PSV Eindhoven, Valencia and Benfica.
The Holland great was also assistant at Barcelona and the Dutch national team.
He said: "Of course I am interested to listen to everybody. There was a contact with my agent but nothing more than that, about one week ago. Until now I didn't know anything about that.
"If they are interested they can call me."

Re: Managers, who would we want?
Maybe Koeman is who we need actually....
Nobody in England really appeals to me at all. I'd say there will be a fair few managers changing around in the summer though.

Re: Managers, who would we want?
Usually there is a 'next big thing' among the managers, typically a manager of a promoted club. Palarse and Hull haven't done too badly this season, in fact I'd say both have done very well indeed. However, Pulis and Bruce don't really fit the parametres of 'next big thing'.
So far we have a shortlist of Koeman, Bielsa and possibly Magath. Doesn't look too bad.

Re: Managers, who would we want?
Not too shabby alright but as I said I fear there will be a big shake up this summer so some of our target may be in demand elsewhere.
This is a huge summer for villa, if we end up needing a new manager,he needs to be backed and he needs to be given the resources to make sure we can put the cycle of struggle behind us.

Re: Managers, who would we want?
I've said previously I'm not keen on Koeman.
My concern with Moyes isn't anything to do with his Man United experience, more what you hear afterwards. Wasn't it Kevin Sheedy who has come out and said publically that Moyes had no interest in the youth system at Everton? It sort of reminds me of the rumblings from Celtic fans about O'Neill's use of resources when we all thought we'd got the dream ticket.
As for who I'd want as a Lambert replacement in the event he was no longer at the club in the summer, I simply have no idea. And like others, I have no faith in the club to appoint a suitable candidate. We'd probably end up with Steve Bruce knowing that lot.

It's sad just how believable that actually is. That's why I have been pro-Lambert until very recently. They have an awful track record when it comes to this stuff.

Re: Managers, who would we want?
O'Leary got shed loads more grief than the current clown does from any angle, but I'd personally take Bruce right now over him. Yep - it's that bad.

The problem with O'Leary was he did insist on opening his big gob and saying Villa couldn't compete with Charlton Athletic.BillyBleach wrote:O'Leary got shed loads more grief than the current clown does from any angle, but I'd personally take Bruce right now over him. Yep - it's that bad.

I detested him, but..."we go again".

Who was the last manager we had that we didn't end up hating in the end?

Re: Managers, who would we want?
Sir Graham both times, BFR, Sir Brian. We were sick to death of Gregory when he went.
