How I expect the season to pan out to be honest - soft goals conceded - powder puff up front.

Gabby should have gone off for Traore. He's finished as a premier league footballer I'm afraid.

Both goals were poorly conceded. Could have and should have kept them from happening. Was Clark even aware of what was going on for that corner???
IMO Guzan needs replacing. Distribution is poor, reading of the game is poor. Shot stopping and positioning is just generally below PL level.
Today shows we are screaming out for a quality CF. Gabby running around like a headless chicken again, I'd have thought with Gestede he may have been better...who was I trying to kid!?
Adama looks exciting and will be good to see him develop as the season progresses.
Stupid mistakes cost us, again.

Gestede isn't good enough to be a starter.
Gabby can get fucked. Useless player.

One sub in that heat.
Sanchez off when we were getting overrun in midfield already
Guzan distribution was terrible
Bacuna exposed but no cover on the right side for the whole game.
We never showed after half time and no reaction from the bench
Traore looks like a gem.

Re: Crystal Palace v Aston Villa Saturday 22nd August 2015...3pm kick off.
Sherwood got the first half tactically spot on, but completely bottled it in the 2nd. We dominated the 1st half with a narrow midfield, but Pardew changed his shape to counter in the 2nd half, and Sherwood made a blunder switching to 4-4-2 after. Absolutely horrible decision, along with keeping Gabby on the pitch for 90 minutes. That 2nd Palace goal was coming since Adama came on. Palace kept throwing players forward, but we never had the numbers back to deal with them.
I'm furious... This is the first time I'm upset with Sherwood's decisions as our manager. We lost that game because of his tactical decisions in the 2nd half.

I'm afraid a lot of the blame for today lies with the manager, and I'm a fan, poor tactics from start except for Sanchez inclusion, bad sub decision, only one change in that heat with both forwards ineffective......... he must have been watching a different game, work in progress continues and Traore for Gabby next game pls.

Agreed 4BetLite. I love Sherwood but that was the best I've seen Sanchez play. To take him off was... odd. Surely taking off the utterly ineffectual GabAg made the most sense.
Overall, disappointing but I'm clinging to the hope there's a good team in the making. We definitely need another Striker though. There's never any sense of real threat when we're in the opposition box.

Think Kozak deserves a chance. Gestede has championship striker written all over him. Nearly every header he won today went straight a palace player.

yep, 2 wrong subs in 2 games now and joppe said earlier and I agree 4-3-3 better v them Sanchez for Westwood with Rudy Jack and ayew/traore up front.
I wanna see Bunn and Hutton start next game too, see what it looks like

Re: Crystal Palace v Aston Villa Saturday 22nd August 2015...3pm kick off.
Guzan has made some good saves but once he has the ball his decision making is terrible. I think one kick made it to a Villa shirt this match. That ball to Amavi was awful. Was Bacuna responsible for heading the ball out that ultimately led to their second goal or should Guzan have communicated with him? Bacuna was good and bad today, Hutton needs to make his case in training now.
Traore and Grealish have to start now so hopefully that's that for Gabby. When Gestede did get the ball there was no one around for him to aim for, this happened all the time with Benteke in a 4-3-3 - if he did connect with a long ball, he rarely controlled it on his own, he needed someone to head or chest it to. Gabby just ain't that player and his decision making on the ball has been as bad as Guzan's.
I go back to what I said before, Westwood and Sanchez shouldn't be on the pitch at the same time. I just didn't understand what Westwood was supposed to be doing while Sanchez was in his usual position. Start Westwood and then have Veretout, or Gil, on the pitch. Bring on Sanchez late on to give us some muscle if we're winning or whatever, but we don't need to start him.
It's a hot day, we can forgive Amavi being knackered at the end after all the running he's been doing up and down the pitch. he was up against someone on fresh legs. That's when we need Sanchez coming on, at 70 minutes when the opposition has some fresh attackers running at our knackered defence. If you like, apply the same to Gabby and bring him on at 70 minutes to run at their defence.
Is it too soon to look at starting Bunn? Guzan has always been great at saving goals and terrible at then getting the ball to a Villa player. Sometimes I wonder if it's better for a defender to kick the ball out of play rather than send it back to the goalie who gives it straight back to the opposition. Guzan has saved us lots of times but I wonder how many times he's presented the oppostion with the ball for no reason whatsoever and broken up our flow and possession.
I can't decide who is my MOTM, I think I'll go with Traore for brightening up a poor match.
Next match we need to look at something like:
Bunn
Hutton/Bacuna - Richards - Clark - Amavi
Westwood
Veretout - Gueye
Traore - Gestede - Grealish
We also need someone in the middle to score goals.

No idea what the issue is, trys him out pre season, he does the business and no look in but Gabby played every minute, whats going on.

Re: Crystal Palace v Aston Villa Saturday 22nd August 2015...3pm kick off.
Here´s a theory. We lost because the Manager (sitting in the dugout) was unable to see the way the second half was developing and was too slow responding to the change of tactics by making his own changes.
I have long thought that the Manager should sit up in the Main Stand where he can clearly see the overall pattern of play and communicate with his Assistant (Wilkins) by telephone to make changes, a la McLaren It is very difficult to get perspective from pitch level.
In this case, he would have seen that Sanchez was covering the defence well and that Agbonlahor and possibly Gestede needed to come off.
Of course, he will see all this when they review the match on video, but it will be too late by then.....points gone!

It doesn't harm other managers ? - Pardew wasn't sitting in the stands.
I think the problem is more fundamental, hes brought the wrong players, and the organisation isn't great either.

Re: Crystal Palace v Aston Villa Saturday 22nd August 2015...3pm kick off.
They went to a Palace player because his strike partner should be expecting a flick on and getting on it. But that would require three brain cells to work out. Gabby has two: one for each leg.
And I agree that Pardew won that over Sherwood. It was a brilliant first half but the Plan B was all wrong.
Sanchez was excellent and gave us some proper steel. Once he went off it was all over for us. I feel sorry for Bacuna as he was utterly exposed and Traore did little to fix that.
Quite what the fuck Guzan was thinking rolling the ball so casually out to Amavi (Amar-vi? A-ma-vee?) is anyone's guess. And his kicking is still dog shit.
Grealish was fantastic and deserves to have a striker with a brain in front of him.
Westwood was good. Richards was good although he does make me nervous venturing up the pitch so much. Clark was lost for that corner. Totally lost. Bacuna was great considering he was a one man show down the right.
Gestede is a squad player. Gabby should never play for us again. We clearly need two new strikers. Or at least one and give Kozak a chance. Anyone really. Just not Gabby.
But this loss is on Sherwood's shoulders.
